£5 was canny, especially with a shower included. Middleton in Teesdale and Barnard Castle are two local favorites of ours and been going to High Force since I was a kid, never get sick of it. Its always windy on High Cup Nick (well, the twice I have been there it was anyway) but what a magnificent sight it is. You must have been shattered after 16 miles mind. Basic accommodation at the end but for £7, still canny. Never been to the castle before mind but worth a look, even though there was not a great deal left. Cheers Alan

Yeah reasonably priced camp sites along the route to be honest, didn't stay at one where I thought they were having my eyes out. High force is a lot newer for me, I'm originally from further north than were I live now. Moved to were I live now because the Mrs is from there, glad we did though as loads of brilliant places such as Barnard Castle, that's one of my favourites too! :) Thanks for watching Alan. Atb Shaun

Excellent mate, really enjoying your walk, Thirlwall is not a true Castle but a Fortified Tower House, fortified because of the Border Reevers of them days coming over Hadrians Wall and nicking their livestock.

Bloody Jockanese coming over here stealing our cattle! lol :) I read that it was made, mostly, from stone taken from the wall. It's a shame that they and others did that as I would have loved to have seen the wall better preserved. Obviously, I understand why a lot of it was repurposed and that it was different times and I can't expect it to sit for as long as it did undamaged, but I just wish a intact mile castle or turret was still knocking about. Thanks for watching. Atb Shaun

@@BASHADweller Ay bloody jocks. I know what you mean bud, at least a bit of fully preserved wall would be cool, down at Vindolanda there are two full scale mock up sections of the wall one in wood and tuther in stone, next to Robin Hoods tree on the wall there is a small part that is full height to the walkway, hard to spot but is visible on the high ground above the tree coming from Chollerford direction, easy climb up and can stand on the walkway, if you find it.

Another cracking video mate. You should write a guide book I’d buy it. I spy some canny camping spots Always fancied a camp around cow green reservoir area,thinking next time im out going there. love that walk along the river from middleton to high force. Lots of familiar footage on this one. Look forward to northumberland section spithope chew green lamb hill kirk yetholm etc.

Cheers mate. Your probably the only person who would! Anyway, I'd have to buy more crayons. Aye, some awesome places I never knew existed, Teesdale is awesome. I think I'll do that section walk again someday and camp at High Cup Nick. Last part will be out at 1900 hrs tonight. Thanks for watching. Atb Shaun

You can't argue with the price of that camp and it's facilities Shaun. It set you up for the 16 mile to High Cup Nick. And what a way there it was what with the magnificent waterfalls and the still nature - on this occasion at least. The Pennines are awesome. Good going. Mark

Cheers Mark. Yeah, all of the campsites were pretty reasonably priced to be fair. That stretch was my favourite I must admit, I love a good waterfall and High Cup Nick was absolutely outstanding. Thanks for watching. Atb Shaun

The natural beauty just keeps rolling out. That valley and the waterfalls are amazing. I didn't realise the way was as long as it is. I don't think you would get bored though, too much to see. The train line looked interesting, I have worked on electric and diesel trains a bit in my time and enjoy them too, but not in a spotterish way. Enjoying the series very much.

Yeah, I couldn't agree more Ade. Some absolutely stunning views and plenty to keep you occupied. There's something about older trains that have always appealed to me. Glad to hear your not a spotter either though! :) Thanks for watching. Atb Shaun

You are one of the very few on KZbin that I see who is qualified to make a proper bug out video Shaun. I watch bug out videos because they are so ridiculous and seem to carry nothing that you would really need for long distance walking or feeding/sustaining yourself with your own equipment for days at a time. You could make one of these videos and speak with great authority.

Thanks Vinnie, great compliment. I was actually thinking about how it would be like bugging out on foot when doing this, you know how the mind wonders. I would, after doing this, definitely have to revisit my setup. These walks are great training but you'd have to go without shops etc in a bug out scenario and I think you'd need something to catch or hunt with which would add weight. I have always had in my head an idea to catch a train to Rannoch Moor and just wonder off for a few days and see how I'd fair. I might just do that some day soon, would be fun! :) Thanks for watching. Atb Shaun

@@BASHADweller I reckon you would need a cart in real life just like the WW2 refugees. There is just so much weight when you add up all the gear, food and water for three days and possibly longer. Who is giving out the guarantees that help will come in three days?
@BASHADweller
@BASHADweller 5 жыл бұрын
I reckon you could get it down to a manageable weight to carry on your back but I also think that you wouldn't be doing very many miles per day as it would still be heavy. A cart isn't a bad shout but it isn't very maneuverable on certain terrain and sticks out like a sore thumb. That's what I always say Vinnie, where did this 3 day figure come from? I can't think of many disasters that lasted only 3 days. Still, I suppose 3 days is better than none.

I stayed at the Sill when I walked Hadrians Wall, I would I agree that it is much nicer. However, I don't really mind sluming it either. A hot shower and some where to pitch my tent is all I really need from a campsite, not too fussed how it looks tbh as I'm only really there to sleep. Each to their own. Thanks for watching. Atb Shaun
