I'm a pensioner, I live in a village with no mains gas. I have to use LPG which lasts around 5 weeks if I have the heating on 2 hours a day. That costs £165. So additionally I use logs to burn. They cost £200 cubic metre. I just bought £400 worth which may last until end February. Plus 20kg coal which cost £13 week if the weather is really cold.... then electricity on top. This is a nightmare for those like me who live in rural locations without mains gas. The fuel payment was a great help for us. This government doesn't have a clue!

@malindsell. I am so sorry to hear this. We are pensioners we pay between £150 to £200 per month for Gas and Electric. We pay this all year so that we won’t have to worry or freeze during the winter. Now food costs have gone up so high life is a struggle we used to just manage on an average of £100 per week. For the same food we would now need between £200 & £250. We can’t afford to spend that amount each week. So we are missing out on main meals just to scrape by. Our other out goings are £650 per month. We try not to use our car as it costs £100 to fill up. We also have yearly outgoings on top. I can’t understand why we pensioners are being targeted by this Government. The hardship they a causing is EVIL.

@ Thank you for sharing. Yes, spreading the cost by paying by direct debit is a great help. We do that for our electricity which is £90 / month, and we are very careful how much we use. We stopped watching TV in the evening and now read instead! Sadly, we can’t pay for logs and coal this way. Logs we have to buy twice a year and coal we buy from Lidl, where it’s cheaper. We’ve also cut down to two meals a day, etc. My thoughts are with you. All the years we paid our taxes and NI contributions, we never thought it would turn out like this, did we?

Yep! Saw this coming after the 2008 crash. Realized that I wasn't going to get anything from the UK gov for all my years of work. So set up a private pension and invested abroad. Today I have a nice place near Cape Town and a condo in Thailand. No more cold winters for me in retirement. My cost of living is also half of what it is in the UK and have access to great medical care. My American dad taught me from young never to put my faith in government. Glad I leant that lesson early. I feel sorry for those left in the UK but the writing was on the wall decades ago.

I live in a one-bed flat. Heating 1 room only. It is awful going to the kitchen to make something to eat when it is so cold. I am 72 & worked since I left school at 15 in 1967. My pension is just above the cut-off point meaning I lost my heating help. Which is a pittance. Reeves earns £170,000 plus and has a huge expenses allowance. As well as freebies. It is outrageous not paying for your clothes etc. In the insect world, they are called parasites. We have to kick labour out we cannot survive for 5 years.

At nearly 80, my wife and I have lost our winter fuel allowance. We cannot afford to heat our home except in the coldest weather. It was minus one on Thursday but if we put the heating on we will not be able to afford a long spell of such weather. We wrapped up warm during the day and retired early, only to wake with ice on the inside of our windows and spent the morning in Tesco's cafe over cups of tea. When we returned to our home, my wife was so cold that I had to put the heating on for an hour. We have only one light burning at a time and used the microwave to heat some beans and the toaster for beans on toast. We again went to bed early and listened to the radio, that’s our life now, thanks to Labour.
