is the heating light should be steady ON while heating or blinking?
@Pool-guy Жыл бұрын
I believe it should stay on after the ignition cycle is complete

So to use this heater without any remote controls, is this ready to go after wiring 120volt and gasline, or are there a bunch of jumpers that have to be moved around?

Hey Steve. Great video. I see you connected the wires for a remote to control the heater. Do you have a link or part number for the remote that works with Pentair Mastertemp 125? Thanks
@Pool-guy7 ай бұрын
Hi Justin The remote in the video is a Jandy RS controller. Just about any of the controllers will work with the heater. If you don’t have automation to automatically turn the pool/spa valves then it’s not necessary to connect the remote wires. You can simply turn the heater on and off with its own control panel. I hope that helps,

Great video. What is the average life of the Pentair 400 propane version. Mine does not fire up. No error codes on the board. When its time to replace should I go with the same one or is there any thing better you recommend. Thank you
@Pool-guy Жыл бұрын
The life of the appliance varies from pool to pool. The research shows anywhere from 6-20 years with 10 as the average. Used commercially maybe 5yrs and at a residence with minimal use 15-20. That is provided that the water ph and chlorine are not way out of range causing the water to become corrosive, which will shorten the life. I have seen one destroyed in 1.5 yrs because they had a ph of 6.8. And older heaters last 20+ with a ph of 9 so water chemistry is the key factor in determining how long it will last.

@@Pool-guy Thanks for insight. Which heater should I looking for when its time to replace?
@Pool-guy Жыл бұрын
@@lutimletap648 continuity in your system will make it easier for you and pool technicians to work on it. If you’re system is mostly Pentair, then stay with it. If mostly Jandy, get a jandy . When repairs are needed it easier to remember what you have when everything is the same brand. I would suggest staying with the three leaders like Pentair, Jandy and Hayward. Most pool technicians will be able to source parts for these more easily than pool equipment purchased at Walmart or Home Depot.

I have a mastertemp heater and intelliflo pump (all Pentair) do you have a video on how to integrate(wire) the heater to be able to use remotely via the Pent Air app? My Pool builder told me it was an option but did not wire it for me. Thank you
@Pool-guy11 ай бұрын
That’s a great question, and it’s a pretty easy thing to do. Both the The intelliflow pump and the heater have a wire connection to communicate with the controller. On page 35 and 36 of the installation manual there is a good diagram showing where to connect the wires on the heater and the control panel. The pump will connect to the same port inside the control panel. The manual also shows a 3-wire connection point and that is for systems not using the pentair controller. Hopefully that will help you get it going. If I get the opportunity to install a complete system I will try to record it. Thanks for watching and have a great swim season. www.pentair.com/content/dam/extranet/nam/pentair-pool/residential/heaters/mastertemp/manual/mastertemp400-pool-and-spa-heater-installation-and-users-guide-europe.pdf

@@Pool-guy Thank you for the response, I have a pool guy telling me that there needs to be a different panel installed that is 2500.00 to make this work? I have talked to 2 other folks including you and they have said you should be able to do this without a new box.. Who is right?

Hi Steve, what is the best match for natural gas heater and the automation? What model?
@Pool-guy Жыл бұрын
I’m partial to jandy for automation. And they make a good heater. However, the master temp heaters are about the easiest to work on. And pentair also has nice automation. So either jandy or pentair are my two favorites. We used to be pentair exclusive, but jandy has made great strides lately.

how much pressure is needed if using natural gas??
@Pool-guy2 жыл бұрын
The gas pressure required should be indicated inside the unit. There is usually a sticker on the wall, door, or floor of the heater, that indicates min/max gas pressure. Natural gas is lower than propane, a gas meter is necessary to test the supply pressure.

I'm thinking of buying a propane pool heater but don't have a large propane tank on my property, can I use a small propane bottle used for BBQ grills ( 20 pound ) ? I understand I'll have to change it frequently , thanks
@Pool-guy2 жыл бұрын
This is a common question that comes up. So I talked to the propane company, to get the answer. The larger the appliance, heater, the more flow is required. If the bottle is to small it will freeze up, and there won’t be enough flow to run the heater. They recommend 100 gallon tank as the minimum. Hope that helps.

Question: I have installed just as you did in the video but nothing is shown on display. There is power to the equipment and automation is hooked up like in the video. Any suggestions??
@Pool-guy2 жыл бұрын
Ok, you mentioned it is connected to automation. If you are using automation, a bad temp sensor on the controller side, will prevent the heater from turning on. I would suggest disabling the automation. In the heater reattach the yellow jumper found at (7:00 in the video)and re-test the heater. Turn on pool pump and then you should have power to the heater. If you still have no lights on top, double check the power into the heater 240vac. Then check power at the jumper, which will be 24vac. Also check the fuse in the heater where the yellow jumper is attached. If you have power in all places and the pump is running then you may have a bad board. Call the manufacturer for warranty service. If no power check all your connections and make sure you have the proper voltage. If it’s 120vac then there is a white plug that has to be used. I hope that helps.
@Pool-guy2 жыл бұрын
One more thought Since the heater is wired into the automation. Then you will have to manually select heater on the control panel. Once you select heater and the pool pump is running it should light up the display and work properly
