Love PTX. If you want to hear Mitch’s voice you should react to A Ha Live from Singapore at the Star Vista. It’s a cell phone video but it’s pretty good. Ah Fil, my friend. I feel your pain. Please be aware (or beware) that this is going to be a very long comment because I am about to go off on one as happens from time to time. I invite you and anyone else who feels disinclined to follow my self-indulgence to scroll right past this at any point. I won't be offended. I won't even know you've done it unless you feel compelled to tell me and even then I won't be offended. Life is too short - although some would argue that mine has already been too long. I was born in 1949 and when this song appeared I was deep in the thrall of Hippiedom. Of course Imagine called to me. We were bursting with hope and optimism. I had hair! We were going to change the world. We were never going to grow old - or up. Until the mid-70s that is, when we were crushed by the relentless acceleration of capitalism that dragged us dismally into the "greed is good" culture that became the 80s and beyond. We took our eyes off the ball and someone kicked it over the fence. I crawled out of the wreckage of my innocence, put away my books on philosophy and religion and eventually embraced science as an alternative viewpoint. Then it all began to make sense. We are indeed mammals as you said. Just the latest branch on the evolutionary tree. We may well be the last because evolution is an adaptation to circumstances and nature whereas we adapt those things to us instead. Like all creatures we are driven by fear, hunger and the desire to procreate. Whatever else we are is subservient to those 3 things. We revere the brain because it is the evolutionary tool we possess and along with opposable thumbs it has allowed us to rise to the top of the food chain. Our brains have the capacity for imagination and that has caused us to seek meaning in philosophy, religion or art to explain or express what we are and how we relate to everything else. We are a very young species, just hundreds of thousands of years old while the dinosaurs existed for millions and they did very well without those things. If you'd asked them what the greatest survival trait was, they would have said size and strength while munching on your brain. If it wasn't for the cosmic accident of a large meteorite they or their evolved counterparts might still be here and we might not. We may well become extinct in a much shorter time than they did because of those 3 driving principles and our resulting mismanagement of the planet. I realise this seems like a very cold and joyless view of life but it is what allows me to understand and forgive the harshness and unfairness of nature, human and otherwise. Notwithstanding all of the above, I am still human. I have the capacity to react to the products of philosophy, art and religion like everyone else while not having to subscribe to a belief in them. Indeed it is a willing suspension of disbelief that has allowed me for decades to submerge myself in the beauty and power of gospel music and the blues and to be moved to laughter, tears or just pure joy by the incredible creativity of Pentatonix and their various offshoots. Finally, having explained my viewpoint on life, I have no wish to proselytize or compel anyone to embrace it. We all have to find our own path to a means of understanding our place in the world and why it is the way it is. It's just that I'm an old man who has lived alone for a long time (shocker!) and sometimes I feel the need to let the world know I'm still here and your channel seems the kind of thoughtful platform where it might be permitted. I promise not to do it again. At least not here. To anyone who has stayed the course, I applaud your stamina. To anyone who hasn't, why the hell would I say anything to you? You won't even read it.

Such a powerful song. Okay Fil, time to start learning names. 😉 For the majority of the video they are from left to right: - Mitch (extremely high male voice) - Avi (pronounced AH-vee, original bass but left the group a few years ago on good terms for personal reasons and was replaced with Matt) - Scott (tall blonde baritone, also covers bass at times) - Kevin (beat boxer and high tenor) - Kirstie (rhymes with thirsty) Mitch and Kirstie change their looks quite a lot, but it is indeed them in every video.

I absolutely loved your talk at the end. It's so refreshing to hear someone else speak up about the human race and how negativity toward any particular demographic is taught. A prime example would be to have 20 toddlers of different nationalities, religions and economic statuses and put them in a room full of toys and just let them go. They won't think twice about playing together. They don't yet know to discriminate or to hate. And then let them react to whomever is the caregiver for that room. When one of then falls down and bumps their head or skins their knee, they look for an adult. They do not care what color that adult is, or what religion they practice, or whether they are gay or straight. They only care that someone is there to help comfort them and kiss their knee and make it all better. Like you said "imagine if...." so many problems would be resolved if you treated others like a blank slate, make up your own mind. You'll be surprised that the major differences are predominantly on the outside. Practice kindness, it's a precious gift, and it's free. ❤

You’re absolutely right. John spelled it out back then & we need to hear it again. It’s even more troubling to see a lot of the hate coming from young people. I don’t get it. I always thought foreigners were cool. Maybe it because my mother is an immigrant. Idk but Pentatonix boiled it down so simply for us. Each card held differences as well as shared attributes. I hope we rebound with joy & hope and a new sense for how we can change for the better. I’d live to chill out and chat with you. I like your outlook. You speak your mind. Most importantly, you’ve entered the PTX rabbit hole. Welcome. Most of us are friendly and hopefully open minded. If I may be so bold, how about reacting to Can’t Help Falling in Love or New Rules or for an early Christmas how about Making Christmas from Nightmare Before Christmas. If you’re diving into Christmas try Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy. It’s so hard to choose☮️💟😷

Every time I listen to Imagine, it brings a tear to my eyes. I'm old enough to remember when it first came out by John Lennon. Actually when the Beatles first came to America as part of the British invasion of music. But my personal attachment was because of being gay at that time wasn't accepted but with this song came hope. Fast forward to today and I agree with your comments on the music industry. PTX does the kind of justice to Imagine that it deserves! Their message is so needed today not only here in the U.S., but also in the world. Funny story -- PTX "won" a recording contract when they won The Sing-Off competition. It lasted about a month before they were dropped! In retrospect it was probably the best thing that ever happened to them. They made their own success on KZbin and, much later, they eventually signed up with an arm of the VERY SAME label -- Sony. But they proved their success and demanded total artistic control, and got it. The difference 18M followers and 4B view can make...

Faithful to the original but brilliant in its presentation. Exceptional musical IQ from these folks.

I know you just started on this Pentatonix journey, but I highly recommend Now United. They're an international pop group made of 16 (soon to be 17) members, each from a different country. They focus on uniting people through music and doing what they love as friends. Their newest song is "One Love" (with R3HAB) and their first one was "Summer in the City". Many of their songs have strong messages promoting love and support. Not every member is in every song/video and not everyone sings. Love your channel and your reaction style!

I never thought I’d see someone improve on this song but they put a modern twist on it that was perfect for today. ❤️

Isn’t this the perfect song for right now? And they’ve done this reminder so beautifully. Your comments are so apt. The US is living proof that upbringing can lead us either down a path to good or not. The past four years here have caused such a terrible rift. It’s not that our former president caused the problems as much as that he gave people permission to act on their prejudices. I could literally feel the air lighten after Joe Biden and Kamala Harris were sworn in. I have hope that we can mend our wounded nation. On your comment about the music industry pushing artists to create and do it quickly rather than well: I used to feel the same way. Somewhere along the line I realized that tons of music has always been created-some good, some not. My theory is that the good music, like cream, rises to the top. That’s the music you hear from the years before you were born. Most of the rest may have simply a short life, and more is just a flash in the pan. That’s my theory, anyhow.

Please please check out Avi Kaplan's solo work! 99% of his songs are orginal. He is considered americana folk. But I think his music is very unique and doesn't fit in any one category but super beautiful and meaningful.

@@thefablesphere I think you will discover a current musician who is writing music for the art. He is such a rarity today. I saw him live and listened to him talk about his life and music now. How he is learning, practicing, growing and trying to put out music that is really true to him. It was an absolute inspiration.

As usual, awesome reaction Fil! And I love your “Fil”-isophical rants, you bring more to the reactions than oohs and aahs. If you love Mitch’s voice as much as I do you should react to some of the songs he does with Kirstie and/or Scott on their Superfruit videos, like “defying Gravity” or the Frozen Medley. And the hip hop goes Broadway videos (x2) ❤️ thanks for brightening up my day!!
