There are no electronic sounds under. This is 100% vocals. The medley won PTX their first Grammy.

So, living in the US, I have been trying to navigate the current clusterfuck currently gripping/strangling the country. All of that aside, when I saw you were reacting to this I just stopped and switched gears immediately! You just really put a smile on my face with this reaction, and I really, really, no seriously mate, REALLY needed that! So, thank you for that! Cheers!

Glad you enjoyed this - PTX has redefined (reinvented) acapella music leaving Pitch Perfect light years behind and old fashioned barbershop groups in another reality entirely. This Daft Punk remix / mashup was crafted togther by them with an assist by Ben Bram and won them their first of three Grammy awards. Kevin Olusola provides amazing beat boxing here while bass Avi Kaplan really drives the bass line and establishes a rich, deep tone that Kirsti Mladonado, Mitch Grassi (tenor) and Scott Hoying use to create a spectacular whole. The design is simple but very effective and was shot in a closet and kitchen on a budget of $400. I don't know who produces their videos but they are really top of the craft. Check out their version of Leonard Cohen's classic Hallelujah (I love the live version from their 2016 Christmas special but the official video has more than 550 million views so...) and their cover of Imagine Dragons Radioactive. It features violinist Lindsey Sterling (and amazing and beuatiful musician in her own right) and allows Kevin to break out his "cello boxing", something to behold and a great sound. Cheers!

Welcome to Pentatonix (PTX for short). Crazy talented a capella group. No instruments. Believe me they sound just as good live . Us crazy loyal fans are dubbed Pentaholics. They're a 3 time Grammy winning group that has been together since 2011. This was their first Grammy win performance. They've changed one member of the group since this video (Avi Kaplan - bass with the beard was replaced by Matt Sallee who You'll see in any video from late 2017 onward). Please react to their cover of Bohemian Rhapsody. Also please react to their cover of New Rules x Are You That Somebody with new bass Matt.

Glad you finally got around to an astoundingly talented group of singers. They have single handedly reinvented a capella, and brought it into the new millennia. I’m hoping you will descend into the wormhole and check out their amazing library of work. Would love to see you become a Pentaholic and some other tunes to check out would be Hallelujah, Bohemian Rapsody, Love Again, Sound of Silence. The group has had only one change in their lineup. Their bass singer Avi Kaplan left in 2017 due to personal family reasons and was replaced by Matt Salle. The reason I bring this up is because if you watch other videos, Mitch Grassi ( the one who opened this song ) constantly and completely changes his look, as does Kirsten Moldonaldo, the female in the group. If you are at all into tight glorious harmonies this is the group for you. They use no instruments at all, save a cello from time to time that the beat boxer uses, and a stomp board. This group prides themselves on not putting out a studio release if they cannot do it live. Hope you enjoy and keep on exploring, and like Dimash’s Dears, (which I am one and have been for a couple of years) you will find that Pentaholics are kind and fiercely devoted. Take care, and I’ll see you on your next reaction.

Welcome to PTX! The one who got yoyr butt off your seat is Kevin, sometimes known as the human drum machine. That guy is a multi talented beast!! He is a classically trained cellist, invented cello-boxing (beat boxing while playing cello) and makes his own music on the side which is just incredible. Welcome to the PTX family! Have fun!

PTX has many songs you need to react to. They honestly are mind blowing. Check out both “sound of silence” and “hallelujah” by PTX for a start, then watch their mashup up of “new rules”. That last one will blow your mind, especially the base sounds.

Welcome to the new world of a capella. Pentatonix and Home Free have rewritten the book on a capella worldwide. All of the suggestions for more songs to listen to are great. Pentatonix has 3 Grammys, one for their "Daft Punk Medley" (Daft Punk) which you listened to, one for their "Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy" (Tchaikovsky), and one for basically being Dolly Parton's backup band(?) on "Jolene". Also, try "Hallelujah" (Leonard Cohen), "Sound of Silence" (Simon & Garfunkel), "Imagine" (John Lennon), "Bohemian Rhapsody" (Queen), "Mad World" (Tears for Fears), and of course, any of their Christmas music. For Home Free I recommend "Ring of Fire"(Johnny Cash), "Man of Constant Sorrow", and my favorite, "Helplessly Hoping" (Crosby, Stills & Nash) (and then a quarantined Italian Youth Choir's cover of Home Free's arrangement).

Thank you. They won their first Grammy with this. Made in a closet for $400. Kevin couldn't wear the contacts. They can rock every thing they do. Yes, you are right, it's acapella, and sounds like a synthesizer. I'm not really a Daft Punk fan, but I love this. Try PTX cover Kiiara's GOLD.

To clarify, only 3 members of PTX - Scott, Kirstie and Mitch - are from Arlington TX, where they grew up together, performing in choirs and musical theatre. When they were preparing to audition for The Sing Off, an a cappella competition show in 2011 on NBC, they had to add 2 more members, and recruited Avi Kaplan as bass (he was an opera and music theory major in college in Southern California where he grew up) and Kevin Olusola as beatboxer by way of his viral cello-boxing video on KZbin from his home in Kentucky (he had just graduated pre-med). Considering that the 2 new members just met the rest of the group a day or two before having to audition, the fact that they were accepted and ended up blowing the competition away and winning is a testament to the abilities of each of them.

What you heard was recorded at Avi's house (the bass) in his bedroom closet. The video was done by them in Avi's kitchen for a total cost of $400, including contacts. The contacts bothered Kevin's eyes so much (the beat box) that he had to find something else to wear. This song won them a Grammy in 2013, along with a recording contract. None of their songs are layered. They can, and do, replicate everything live.

Hi Fil....You have always said that PTX videos were simple and it showcases their voice I think. Well, I heard that in the beginning the videos were simple to save money. In fact this one...the Daft Punk was arranged by Scott and the other members themselves until they had the right songs and right arrangements. Then one night they filmed each singer in a dark place...Avi's closet in his apartment. Then they edited it the next day and it cost a total of $400. They pay homage to their first videos by keeping them simple. They have rented a school gym for one, the school stage for another and Bohemian Rhapsody was filmed on an alley behind one of their apartments. If you look closely you can actually see the white line painted on the road. I think it is amazing but they are so smart and so very talented. Thank you for your channel and artists. I love your insight into the videos. take care Fil. Barbara

You're right, this was not too hard to make. Done in Avi Kaplan's closet and edited in his kitchen all to the price of $400 US. and they got a Grammy Award for it for its arrangement. It's a mash up cover of Daft Punk's works. There is no electronics backup here. They are acapella. The most they use is reverb or echo on the microphones. Glad you liked it. Keep watching, you have ten years to catch up on. Everything these guys touch is golden.

Excellent, fun, knowledgeable reaction. I knew you were doomed to score it at 30 the moment you said you were a Daft Punk fan.
