Be aware. PTX was founded in 2011, when they auditioned for and won NBC’s “The Sing-Off” for acapella groups. Scott Hoying, Mitch Grassi and Kirstin Maldonado were childhood friends. They found Kevin Olusola on KZbin-where he was beatboxing and playing the cello (what he calls ‘celloboxing’. They needed a bass and found Avi Kaplan through a friend. Avi stayed with them for six years, through them losing their recording contract-starting their KZbin channel-winning three Grammys (so far). His mom became ill, which made it tough for him to tour. He left in 2017, and helped PTX find his replacement, Matt Sallee (all the way to the left in this video, with a white jacket on). So if you look at videos prior to 2017, the bass was Avi. 2017-> present, the bass is Matt Sallee! Matt has been an amazing addition. And Avi is doing solo work, and is really happy. It’s all worked out really well.

This is a masterclass in song arrangement. They bring the listener up, step by step, getting us emotionally involved in the song and the lyric, and fall off at the end (in just two measures or so), leaving the listener wanting more - still absorbing the emotional depth we've reached. In that way the song is complete, yet it lingers in our minds for a little while afterwards. (That refrain always haunts me for like 10 minutes afterwards it's so good, and then I usually listen to the song again lol.)

I think the way that they compose everything and arrange all of their songs is so brilliant! I love love love it when they build and build and Kirstin is either close to last or last because for me she is just phenomenal, and it always gets more and more emotional, then she sings, and I'm dead... You should react to one of their most recent videos Amazing Grace...They do the same thing. I've watched it a hundred times and I've cried every time, it's that good...

If you want to see them in the 'beginning' look up the sing off (TV show) - I love their version of 'The Dog Days Are Over' - you can see how good they were back then and how far they have come. It's an amazing journey and their back story from school to the TV show to LA to their most deserved success is a very uplifting story.

Enjoying the lift lift lift and the drop with you. If you are in a roller coaster, it’s that click click click up to the top and that couple of seconds that you are suspended before the stomach disappearing, skin shivering, breath exploding screaming plunge down and then before you can recover you realize you are on to the next ascension....that is the artistic propulsion of their thrill ride called music. welcome to the world of pentatonix. They are THE acapella group. Here are some suggestions for future reactions. They've won 3 grammys for their daft punk, dance of the sugar plum fairies, and jolene W/ dolly parton. Some original songs are sing, love again, and new releases happy now and be my eyes. Other covers include...wizard of ahhhs (a montage of 16 songs made to tell the classic story of the wizard of oz), bohemian rhapsody (quite simply the best cover of that classic rock song), mad world, royals, i need your love, waving through a window, you're a mean one mr grinch, imagine, starships, nightmare before christmas, just to name a very few....also they put out an album made entirely in their own homes...recorded separately and mixed which include home, dreams, break my heart, blinding lights and when the party's over.
