Pentaholics..give it up for Fable Fil!!! THANKS to ALL of you for signing the petition but especially to Fil for mentioning/leaving the link. And yes, I'm in the States. Fil, you mentioned EVERY reason why they should be on the radio...it's a banger, it could be played in a club, it puts you in a good mood but what I think is most important...EVERYONE can relate to the song! This song is amazing! Thanks for reacting to it! It's a travesty PTX isn't on the radio besides their Xmas stuff. You should react to ALL of the songs off their new all original album (which Coffee in Bed is the third track), even the ones without videos. The ones with videos (besides this one) are Happy Now, Be My Eyes, and The Lucky Ones. But all of them are amazing and I'd love to see you react to them all!

You are absolutely my favorite reactor to ptx and their members. You make me laugh and give me so much hope and joy. Can't wait until your son is old enough to join you! He's such a cutie 😊 I know you get so many requests and this whole album is amazing, but knowing you are a Scott Hoying fan I'm going to put two out there that you are going to rate up there with the reaction you did with Scott and Mario's cover of Zimmer and LP. The first one is All To Me with Scott and Shoshana Bean - an unbelievable singer. The second one is Lose Us with Scott and Rozzi, one of the most unique and soulful voices you will ever hear. Scott's high notes will blow your mind as will the baring of his soul in both of these songs. Remember how you were told you needed to react to Scott on the Zimmer/LP cover and you kept putting it off? Well, these two songs are just as unbelievable. I don't say this lightly🌝❤

You probably know already how they got their start...but. They won a show called the sing off. Got 200 thousand dollars and screwed by the record company. They were singed and 2 weeks after moving to LA they were dropped. They took the money and started making KZbin videos. The rest is history. So once again thank you for the smiles. They have had 3 major network Christmas specials. They had rearranged one of their original songs, "Sing" to be the theme song for Thursday Night Football a few years ago. When you said that they are not profitable enough and go by the wayside because the labels for the lack of a better saying just want qick and dirty money. That is to say that they know what formula will sell because it all sounds alike and that is what the industry has conditioned us to listen to. It popped into my head that it's like iwhen TV first came out. They said that it would produced a generation that does not know how to think for itself. The music industry has done something similar in that they pump out songs according to a formula and people just listen to it because they no longer know what good music is what good songwriting is.

They're heading in a new, more mature direction with their music...and the fact that EVERY song on the album is written or co-written by at least one member of the group shows that the creativity is rising as well. Actually, the music industry has gone full circle BACK to the commercial crap it was in the late 50s and throughout the 60s. Artists finally gained more respect in the 70s, and that lasted until somewhere in the late 90s or early 2000s, then started to flip back again. Now it's the worst it's ever been.

I also don't understand how their songs aren't all over the radio, and they aren't huge mainstream hit artists like the Ed Sheerans and Ariana Grandes. I wonder if it actually is a deliberate strategy on their part? I mean, look how successful they are even WITHOUT that kind of mainstream coverage - maybe not jumping on that conveyor-belt is what allows them to be as creative and innovative as they are? I still signed the petition though. Sorry Pentatonix, but you're too good to hide away from the radio! 😍

(Sorry I got carried away here) I feel like once Pentatonix start getting played on the mainstream radio, they will inevitably have a massive corporate record label sign them and throw money at them. Which they would be silly to not take (Although i feel like they are strong-minded enough not to go down that route) but if they were to, they would basically be selling their soul and then this multi-million currency company will just put them through the 'sausage machine' and turn them into something, which 12 years olds will hear and wont care about how good they are at singing, as long as its got a repetitive beat and they sing about sex, money and cars, the people streaming the songs wont care. (Also the craft of their work is like why they don't get the Rolls Royce Hand-painters to paint on you're everyday Toyota Prius and SUVs. It's too time consuming and wouldn't be appreciated by the masses) I appreciate anyone who has read all of this!

How big is radio play these days anyway? I don't think most of the younger generation (12-35) even listen to radio much. Isn't it all about streaming services now? I mean BTS didn't get big in the U.S. from radio play.
@EliaKay13 жыл бұрын
While radio play would be nice, true free radio play continues to decrease each year as streaming and pay radio like Sirius XM continue to increase. Last chart I saw has it at about 1/3 to 1/4 of music consumption. Most pop radio stations contract out to programming companies who specialize in data analysis of what’s popular in each market and deliver a playlist for the radio stations. They don’t even have station programers anymore. The only way music makes it to the radio is if it’s released as a single for radio by the studios and it’s from a popular artist or it becomes popular on streaming and fits with the stations demographic. PTX doesn’t make money off radio play at all either, no artist does. They make a majority of their money touring and have said so in many interviews.
@Russ_Keith3 жыл бұрын
Hey there Fil. It's me again and I have some thoughts so be careful with that *Read more* option. Re your comments on the music industry, you know it was ever thus. Remember, Decca turned down the Beatles when they were starting out, probably because they were unlike anything else around at the time and that was in the early 60s. When you reacted to Imagine you said we didn't have songs like that anymore because nowadays they wanted everyone to be clones. But do you think John Lennon would have been able to get exposure for a song like Imagine without the reputation and earning power that The Beatles and their members individually had accrued by then behind it? Thankfully they did have that power and their success with genre-bending music encouraged more risk-taking in the music industry - for a while at least. The 70s produced legions of pale imitations of Bowie without the saving grace of his self-awareness and irony long after he had moved on. The 80s were cursed with endless mediocre copies of artists like Culture Club, Eurythmics or Yazoo and others who had brought real originality to the scene. After that I checked out for a while, grateful for the fact that through it all I had Jazz, "the sound of surprise", an unending supply of creativity and musical excellence. I recently recommended a song by Eva Cassidy to you. I bring it up in this context because she died of cancer 10 months after the performance in question, virtually unknown outside of her local area. She had been offered a record contract but turned it down because it was conditional on her choosing a genre and sticking to it. She said she couldn't because she could only sing what she felt. That was in 1996 - 25 years ago. In an interview after her death, the producer who was involved in that decision said with tears in his eyes that he regretted that action bitterly. A folk singer fan managed to get released a compilation of some of her work on her label and in 1998 a popular British radio DJ played her version of Somewhere over the Rainbow and the switchboard blew up. Such was the pressure of public opinion that now several CDs worth of material, basically everything she ever committed to a recording medium, have been released. Happily most of it was of a standard much better than you would have expected in such circumstances. Sadly she would never know how well-loved her music would become worldwide. But the point I want to make is that occasionally, in spite of the avarice of the music industry, quality and originality shines through unexpectedly and strikes a chord with the public and as a result a change can occur that for a while encourages an outpouring of creativity until they manage to replicate that and reduce it to a formula too. As it happens, I agree with your correspondent that Pentatonix is now of such a standard and have their fingers so on the pulse that they could be a contender for the next example of this. Look at me all optimistic. Cherish it, it doesn't happen often. And now, if you haven't done it already, you can

Sorry Fil, but the music industry has been a sausage factory since before you were born. You will have been around to see some backlashes to that, where creativity won for the day (punk, grunge...), but they were quickly reined in and put back in the box. It's just like that. That said, PTX are doing very well, radio play or not, aside from KZbin success their Christmas albums always go to No 1. And rightfully so. Don't feel bad for PTX, they're actually thriving. Relatively speaking
