Hello Professor, I'm sorry if this is out of field but I was wondering if you know about the Old South Arabian languages( Sabaic, Qatabanic, Minean, Hadhramitic) and if you could talk about them in future videos. I fell in love with these languages when I heard about them.

I don't know too much. I do have an old Sabaic grammar somewhere in my library. I'd like to learn more about them.

I am a Sabbatarian Christian, and one of my Sabbatarian friends is a part of a church that uses the Syriac Bible. They claim the Syriac is the original version of the NT. I attempted to argue that instances like νόμος being used for תורה shows that the Syriac is a translation off of the Greek NT. He responded that the Greek influence is only found in the Western Peshitto and not in the Eastern Peshitta. Aramaic manuscripts is not my focus of study, so I couldn’t track down that claim. I was wondering if you could help?

hi prof. wingert. are you aware of the existence of an almost complete copy of the gospels in aramaic (minus 10 pages from matthew) vatican folio #140 from edessa made under the order of the third bishop of edessa with a scibal colophon from december 15 in the 389th year of the greeks (78 ad). this was found by joseph assemani in the chaldean patriarchate in baghdad and transported to rome in the early 1700s. does this manuscript still exist? or is it in the louvre, bibliotheque nationale, french archives or lost forever because of the transfer of the vatican library to france during the napoleonic era?
