I lump all these people together. Flat Earthers, people who believe that Australia doesn't exist, those who don't believe birds are real. All of them are a sign that people are becoming mentally deficient. There is so much mental illness in the world these days, it is terrifying. I still have a challenge for these clowns. Making a mechanical model of the solar system showing how day/night works, showing how eclipses work, and showing how seasons work, is relatively easy. I want to see a flerfer build a mechanical (not CGI) model of their flat Earth showing all those same things plus what keeps the sun and moon in those ridiculous positions. Not one of them will take that challenge, since they know it can't be done.

The thing that really confuses me is why these conspiracy theorists think anyone would go to the trouble of faking something as fundamental as the existence of space. The effort it would be to produce the amount of footage NASA alone puts out would be utterly phenomenal. Who would be funding this elaborate hoax, and for what purpose? Also, if it was faked, you'd see the aging of the special effects over time, the same as you do in old movies, where what once looked believable now looks laughable.

I've always wondered the same point you make here. I grew up in the time of old Flash Gordon sci-fi movies. The FX was really crude; even by the standards of the time. We enjoyed these silly movies very much, but, even as little kids, at no time did we ever remotely think any of it was real.... @madfinntech photography and light. In footage from space shadows tent to be a lot harsher than on earth because there is no atmosphere to scatter light. For example at 5:38 Dan shows 2 images one of the space shuttle on earth and one of it in space and says they look the same. But in the one and earth you can clearly see the insides of the cones of the engine even though part of it are in shadow. In the space one you can not see inside the engine at all because the shadows are so much harsher. I think if you would ask Level Earth Observer if these image where the same he would say no. saying the one on earth clearly has a inside to the cones while the one in space does not they just end in black painted circles.

In the phrase "Demonstrable Realist" - the "Demonstrable" part applies to the second part, "Realist". The harness fakery argument is absolutely ridiculous. Just research how insanely complicated it was to fake weightlessness in the movie Gravity. They had to attach multiple wires to ankles, hips and shoulders just to shoot very short scenes with cuts, and with just one actor. It would be impossible to do with a an entire ISS crew of 7 people for countless of very long uncut video sequences. Edit: Not to mention we have lots of similar video of weightless astronauts onboard the first space station Skylab more than 50 years ago, well before modern VFX, CGI and "augmented reality" were a thing.

Also, "augmented reality" is only visible for the observer- ie the astronaut looking at the water. It doesn't project a hologram over the real world that everybody can see. I recently found out that my two best friends of 30 years are space and science denying flat earthers. I feel more betrayed by that than probably anything ever. Every debate we have about it just breaks down to them saying "well that's what the bible says". Just completely disregarding the thousands of years of knowledge we have collected and flat out refusing to even try to understand any of it. I'm so disappointed by this.

Same I remember having dinner at one of my friends houses. We've been friends since 7th grade, both in our thirties, and he was talking about how we've never been to the moon. It's all lies, and I was shocked because we were both in advance class together throughout high school and went to college, but he married this super religious girl and he totally changed.

That kind revel in the hog wallow of their own ignorance, celebrating stupidity above all else. It's infuriating. P.S. Not all of us think the earth is 8 thousand years old, and man rode on dinosaurs either. 😂

But if there is no infinite universe what is there? It can't be that the flat earth wraps around itself somehow so that there is no edge because that's not a flat earth and no flat earther would argue that the earth is flat because it isn't...oh wait, yes they probably would. And anyway, we know it's not flat because there are 3 physical dimensions. The only way up can end is if it ends in a point in, say, the middle of a sphere. But then what's down? It's all too confusing for me. They always tell me space isn't real and the earth is flat without telling me what is out there and what the earth is actually like (with maps and stuff).
