I actually like the phasing of this arc, it resembles Rudy's mental state in a way. He's changing fast, from being happy to feeling down again. I think for him, the time passes much faster because of the state he is and the fact that he doesn't really know what to do and what to feel. The phasing is just right to convey this.

Yeh the animation is no longer consistently good it can go from bad to sakuga levels so it felt very jarring. Yes I agree but the anime is doing a not so good job at explaining things. It's missing some of the small details that really add up. The fights with the ice drakes were also seemingly lack luster to me. And also did they not skip a fight with a banche or ghast or something? Maybe I am wrong I know they talk about Divine magic in the LN. More and more it's entirely possible that small enough things get left out of the anime that in later seasons causes great impact. I still agree it was a good episode. I feel like the pacing is to quick though. We need like one more episode spliced in. Take things a little slower. But that's just me.

@MrArrmageddon
@MrArrmageddon Жыл бұрын
@@Epitome_ I know. It's kind of worse than you think. Well how about this. I am going to tell you a few quick things about Episode 1 and 2 that are neat from the LN. This will not spoil anything as the anime has moved past this and won't flash back on it etc. You do not need to read this if you don't want too. In fact if you plan to read the LN at some point I suggest you don't read any of my comment. Not all of this is that important. But your right content in the LN it's done a lot better to explain Sara's change in feelings etc. And there is a lot more I can mention but it's been a while since I've read those chapters but here are some things that demonstrate how the anime dropped the ball. 1. In episode 1 near the end with the battle against the white grizzlies. Rudy did not almost like let himself die. It played out mostly the game. Except the group was deciding to flee or not. They thought they were going to die. Rudy stepped forward and saved them. 2. The reason the mud covered grizzlies is important is that they were not properly scouted because the mud made them blend in with the darkness of the night. Making the group underestimate how many monsters there were. 3. You get a mono-log chapter from Sara's point of view I think and why she had issues with Rudy at first and misunderstood him. I won't go into what all that is about as it might actually be in the next episode. The LN included it already I think. But in the anime it may be pushed back an episode. But If it is it's out of place a little. But it helps transition from Sara growing to like Rudy in combination of Rudy working with counter arrow over a few months. 4. In Episode 2. There is a lot more plot behind Rudy working shovelling the snow. Trying to find work and the girl he healed. I won't go much into it but it's neat. One of the coolest things missing about this is that in the LN there is a magic implement that melts all the snow when you channel magic into it. Rudy does show this off here. But it's not explained in the anime. IT seems like he just went up to like a fountain and heated it etc. But in the LN it's mentioned that most mages can only melt a little bit a snow. Rudy just has an insane mana pool and he gets paid for a full days work of snow shovelling in no time at all as he does an amazing job. 5. In the LN I think Rudy does not recover from his depression nearly as quickly. Well we can see in this episode of the anime he is still carrying a burden. But in the LN it's more flushed out even still. There is more lore behind the other guilts including that guild leader to like goes off on Rudy at the tavern etc. 6. The quest into the ruins has some stuff missing. I know they talk about divine magic. They might even have fought some ghost like creature? A banshee or something like that. I guess I need to quickly re-read it. I may be getting some of that wrong. But also the whole Ice Drake situation has more to it. But the anime does good enough job. 7. Like others have mentioned there is more time between the scene were Rudy is crewed out by that swords man that reminds Rudy of his father. There is more time between that scene and the Counter Arrow returning after a mission with Sara and Mirmir missing or dead. 8. The quest to save Sara is done more slowly paced in the LN. More lore to it. However you barely understand the creatures involved in the Anime. First of the tree thing was an Ice Treant. They are known for capturing their prey alive. Rudy knows about them. In the LN Rudy studies most monsters in a given area. It's a way you survive as an adventurer and you learn lore from Rudy when he spots a creature. Actually Rudy is almost killled in both the anime but also the LN. As the Ice treant is bad at close ranged attacks. So it defeats most foes by forming and throwing massive blocks of ice up into the air from a great distance. Rudy actually hears noises like thuds going on. Not knowing what it is. And than he just barely dodge one that is going to crush him. In the Anime you don't really hear any of these thuds. It never spots to have Rudy ponder what kind of noise he is hearing. Rudy is also aware that Ice Treants sometimes take their prey alive. I think in the LN Rudy kills the tree once he gets Sara out of it instead of fleeing into the water? But maybe I am wrong. Sometimes it's easy to get various battle mixed up in this series.

The one thing I had an issue with this episode is the timeskip transition from Soldat berating Rudy in the Guild building to Sara and Mimir going missing. The way that scene transitioned and the fact it was all in the same exact spot makes it almost seem like it happened in the same day. However, that timeskip was supposed to take months I believe; there was no showing or feeling of passage of time. But other than that, I enjoyed the episode. Sure, it could've done some storyboarding and directing a bit better at times but it was still enjoyable for me personally. Also, finally getting to see Soldat in anime form berating Rudy for his half-assery is great. The previous episode ended with Rudy lamenting that he "forgot how to live seriously" and now Soldat is the one to truly rectify that mindset again onto Rudy instead of sulking around with a fake smile day by day.

The transition felt off and the reason I'd say is cus, in the novel, there is Rudy taking the small snow cleaning job before Timothy and Suzanne mention about Mimir and Sara, but we instead got that job as the sequence for the start of the episode, so it makes it feel a bit more immediate

I could agree with that, I can see the time jumping around as an issue. We’ve had only one episode with this new group and I think asking every viewer to I guess invest in that part of the story right now may have been a lot. But I didn’t personally have any issues with the pacing that much. The core of this episode is Rudy’s inner journey of going uphill so to speak. He still has plenty to work on and this episode I think just shows his progress and did it’s job just fine. Whatever cut content from the novels people are talking about I mean hey man sure it would have been nice but “needed” is what I’m lookin at Ykna. I think maybe 1 more episode with this maybe will calm the complaints. I was expecting at least 2-3 episodes of this current point in the story and then we’ll move on so we’ll see.

Yes it's to faced paced and it's almost like it's made for LN viewers which is a bad way to make an anime. Most people have not read the LN. I just hope it can stay at least as good as it is now. It's still good but uh it's starting to feel like even someone like us being involved in the product could fix these issues. Had a transition show Rudy like training and mention more time has passed. In 40 seconds screen time or less you could have resolved this issue.

My thought exactly when I watched how he fights when he's in a group compare to how he fights when he is solo, it's obvious to me that he hold himself back when there is other people around him & watch him, it's obviously intentional, he's hiding his true strength, Counter Arrow who fought alongside him for so long, for months, still has no idea for what is capable for, because Rudeus never show them, like it was funny when Suzanne told him that it was very dangerous that he went alone to save Sara & that he could have died, I mean that's laughable if she knew what his real strength is like she would never said that.. right?

People are giving all these reasons like his depression or he doesn’t want the attention and all that but I’m pretty sure the reason is simply that it would be an asshole move for anybody to join a party for a job and rather than be part of the team and do your job, you overdo it and do it all by yourself and take all the glory. Also in the light novel Rudy also says that he doesn’t want people to get to reliant on him because he only joins parties temporarily and if he constantly does everything then people will get reliant on him to be there.

While even as person that been on coverage of this series for nearly 9 years while it was still releasing the WN this Volume in anime form just needs the important aspects done aka what they are doing rn and they cant just put dialogue because it would be 7 eps and people would complain either way because thats all that's really "Skipped" its just dialogue nothing too important but people love crying and making a big deal out of nothing. @@thomaszimmer371 "all that's really "Skipped" its just dialogue nothing too important"... You know, it's times like these when you can just tell which content a person enjoys most out of something... I mean hey, it's all right to like action more, I get it, but this thing you just called "nothing too important"... is one of the most important parts of Rudy's life and fleshed out development. I get it, it might be boring to you, but if it ever had been animated... idk just skip through the episode?? ...I have to wonder why you even brought up the production aspect when I really never implied that this should've been changed MID production and not before it was even started but hey I guess I wasn't clear enough. A first season will ALWAYS be a testing ground, especially if the studio was barely created and needed to see how the audience would react, so they selected specific content that they knew would please the most people, and not give the most thorough adaptation. When the sequel hits however, they can either let loose or cut budget depending on prior reception. Considering S1's reception... cutting content is NOT an excuse, especially if you're able to do good pacing. I'm really not saying the studio did a "bad" there since it's an executive decision and not up to animators and all but it's still not a good one. Since you talked about the WN here... Did you end up reading the LN too? Because this (EXTREMELY IMPORTANT ARC) was entirely missing in the WN, so I'm wondering if you're being a little biased here. "The more important volumes are the next two in this cour those are what changed the whole aspect to the story and stay relevant for MANY more volumes to come." Ah. Yes. Important depression arc and coming to terms with it. Very NON important to... the entirety of the series apparently... *sigh* You know... the series that is quite literally Rudeus Greyrat's life story? ...But sure, I guess lore, story and big adventures are more important right? But then you'll reply saying that they've covered everything they needed and to that I say... Yeah nah. there were like... 5 months total skipped or something? at the very least 3 and in this episode alone Rudy has had a growth spurt because they just skipped out on most of the mental gymnastics that were happening during this entire period. Ever wondered why in the LN we don't see Rudy go on more adventures than what's shown in the anime but instead the more "boring" stuff like morning exercises and helping people out? Yeah that's because the author and editor thought it was (deservedly) more important that having more action. Am I nit-picking? Apparently I am but when someone says that "people love crying and making a big deal out of nothing" when really, they're mostly correct... well that doesn't sound right does it? But I guess opinions exist for a reason, so here I go talking to myself I guess

The animation is also great in most of the episode but there are some stills which look very oddly drawn, especially noticable in Rudeus' face. Same goes for me what most people are saying, I did not hate the episode and I did enjoy it, but the difference between producers is very noticable.

I think it needed an extra episode. This episode should have finished with Sarah missing and episode 3 being an action-packed journey to find her. There wasn't enough build-up. I felt a lot more emotion reading the manga at this part, when animation should be much better at getting that across. They tried to do too much in one episode but ended up with not enough character development or action for this part of the story.

The anime is covering LN7 right now which was content that was skipped in the web novel, I think everything in this volume is important to know because it gives you context of the mental state rudeus is in, in the web novel they skipped all this info and started you at a 2 year time skip from eris’ departure which was jarring to say the least, also it explains certain things that rudeus can and can’t do after a 2 year time skip, like his physical training to be more fit and his alter that he now worships, just it’s kinda of annoying they’re picking up the pace so they can finish LN7 by next episode, at least that’s what I’m thinking they will do, personally feel like they could’ve used 4 ep to cover it but it looks like they want to get to the next arc asap 😢

The thing is, this volume is a lot more of dialogue and monologues than events themselves, and the anime has the advantage of visually showing Rudy mental state without having to spell it out, notice details like how he has bags under his eyes, is always avoiding eye contact and stiff body language when interacting with others, that already tells you without spelling he is still in a bad state, as for the pace of the volume, they have covered it in a rate of 2 chapters per episode and each chapter is rather one event prolonged due to Rudy narration of his own mind, the anime rather did a fairly well job adapting it with the constraints the anime format has

Brother, i respectfully disagree. The amount omitted and left out is huge. As someone who faced clinical depression, when I read these chapters in the light novel, it resonated incredibly deeply with me. It was a lot of internal dialogue which some might argue is not great to translate to anime, but that is arguably why Mushoku got so popular in the first place. The slow burn, the world building, the attention to detail, the relatable and deep aspects. I was singing its praises to my girlfriend over and over on how this is one of my favorite sections of the anime, only for it to be reduced to a couple of opening scenes and one singular episode. Rudeus struggle through depression at the start of this arc is amazing, deep, moving. Explaining his reasoning as he became a mage for hire, going with other parties, building his name and fame, acquiring the nickname Quagmire, running every morning and circling the tower to cope and improve himself. Helping the city with his immense mana (this part would be so nice to see, its world building, seeing how a northern town deals with the constant snow and blizzards as well as the effect on the citizens like the less fortunate children), his relationship slowly being built with Counter Arrow, his "religious" side on basically praying to Roxy. It's sooo incredibly frustrating all of it being rushed and pushed to the side just to get to the "action" quicker. I'd love for Mushoku to be loved for being the beautiful slow burn that everyone fell in love with, and not being rushed into generic status. Edit: OH and don't get me started with the Treant fight! My goodness! That section was supposed to be a huge epic fight and him learning how to approach fights. The distances traveled were so badly transmitted too! Brother walked for hours melting snow with his huge mana capacity to get to Sara quickly, showing that it was something only he could have done. The Snow Drakes section! It was such a huge thing in the light novel too! Those fuckers were legit tanks that even Rudy was struggling against, he and Counter Arrow basically resigned to die at that moment, so his relationship with them and realizing that they came back for him was a huge deal! And just in general the introspective thoughts and explanation of the world through Rudeus' thoughts all gone. Reduced to atoms. Half of the arc was Thanos'ed and squeezed into one episode. Ahhh, I'm so sad! xD

I expected for this Volume to be done in 4 episodes, but it seems they will cramp it in 3, if so then it will be really bad The number of snow drakes was far too small to be considered a stampede from which a party needed to run away from, a situation dire enough for Rudy to think he could get himself killed by saving others, since he's depressed and all The treant fight was really shortened as well, treant scenes overall seem to have been deleted from the anime, it's fine but it takes from the world building trivia

11:56 (anime-only watcher here) What you said is pretty much what I was thinking with this episode, and episode 1 to an extent. I do get a clear sense that the showrunners want to move through this depression arc relatively quickly and get on to what comes next. I think part of it is that whatever comes next probably is more significant plot-wise (even without knowing exactly what it is), and part of it is that spending 5-6 episodes on depressed Rudeus probably wouldn't go over that well. The plot can't advance very much while Rudeus is in this state, and frankly I think the audience could just use a break from the depressing stuff after the end of last season and the start of this one. I can see where this episode was rushed in places, but overall I thought it was good.

Especially considering how much content this season is going to have. I think instead of trying to cram all of the content into the episode, and assuming they only had the one episode for it, they shouldve cut more of the time in the Galgau ruins. As i see it that part of the story serves mainly to introduce Soldat as a antagonist so they could've still introduced him in the guild and reference the ruins so they could focus on Rudy savind Sara and the emotional struggle he's dealing with during that time as I believe it is more important to showing his character arc. Also i think to see his fight with the Icefall Treant animated to save her would've been so epic but hey, I still enjoyed the episode and cant wait for the rest of the season

I'd say it's the similar situation to death note. In the manga, it was just MOUNTAINS of text thrown at you for exposition but of course they couldn't do that in the anime (though they definitely did do that in some areas with long dialogue scenes). So you have to somehow translate mountains of inner-dialogue and speech to a couple scenes to keep things going at a good pace. So of course things have to be forgone. Overall I liked the episode. I'd say the only weird thing was the transition from Soldat berating Rudy to just hard cutting to Mimir and Sara being dead.

A a LN reader, I understood the reasoning for the fast pace plot. Especially when the season trailer had shown material from LN13. This is going to be a chunky season. What I am upset about is the animation quality, I thought episode 0 was a fluke, but this doesn't show much promise. Especially when the trailer shots of Soldat and Counter Arrow fighting off the snow drakes are completely different. Why weren't those shots in this episode if they were already animated?
@Snzn_7
@Snzn_7 Жыл бұрын
Bruh, animation quality wise it's about the same as season 1 cour 2 in a lot of areas. Season 1 has moments where a lot of scenes goes a bit rough around the edges in an episode containing fight scenes. And most of the time, mind you, those fight scenes overall are just short like just about a minute or two(Though we'll animated) This episode have consecutive multiple fights scenes. So if I will judge it by how season 1 did during season 1 of course this episode will absolutely dip up and down in quality a lot. But of course people seems to judge season 1 only by the BD versions (where it fixes a lot of those rougher scenes). Sometimes people should at least try to observe why a specific series sometimes dip in quality and don't just claim it dips in quality just for the sake of it.

I feel like people just need to realize that when you adapt something from a novel to any form of visual media, you are going to have to cut stuff. If you tried to fit every little detail into the adaptation, the pacing would be slow as f**k. That sort of slow pacing only works in novels. In a novel you can get into the minutia of all the characters thoughts and motivations without bogging down the story. But that wouldn't work so well in an anime. Adaptation is a lot harder of an art form than most people give credit. They seem to expect nothing to be left out, but for it to still have good pacing. Which is just an impossibility.

We have to take into account that he is going through a mental slump, and they should not make any portrayal that they slap a flex tape on his depression and he's back to normal. Taking into account his prior life knowledge, this is a new experience for him where he is depressed and confused what suddenly happened in his life with Eris to the point, he works to barely live because otherwise he will starve and can't afford housing. Let alone find his mother. Along the road he met new friends, and he genuinely likes the group and feels he wants to help them since they never abandoned him (which he subconsciously feels Eris did after giving him a form of payment for not abandoning her and getting her home safe). Eris wrote him a note but conveying the same verbally would have resulted in him understanding her intentions better.

This ep feels rushed to me. Like scenes kept on jumping with all these really minor timeskips. Like I'm not asking much, just some minor transitioning scenes to like smoothen things up a bit. This feels like they had multiple teams in charge of animating different scenes, and the director just told them to use the editing software to merge them all without adding anything else

Good episode, but I was dumbfounded when they said the mage died and the girl went missing. Just felt like I missed something. The animation also seems awkward, stiff, or forced at times.

Here's a thing about adapting a novel into a visual format. Some things that work in written word, DONT work in visual format, and one of those things is a slow build emotional arc in an adventure story. In a novel, that makes for a great build up and tension builder. In an anime, that puts the viewer to sleep. There *are* ways to make it work, but even then you're going to have to change things. That's why it's an adaptation not a direct conversion.

I don't think Rudy was naming his muscles. Baskerville and Tindalos are literary references to hounds. It's a very nerdy and well-read way of saying his dogs were barking ie his feet/legs hurt from the running. I think it was a very Rudy way of doing it, too. I laughed.

I agree this is a fine episode although rushed in parts. I think we knew this that the direction was not agreed to by everyone in the production. We heard the rumors. I think the scope of danger was removed from the snow drake part. The monster frog was not even shown. They changed where Rudy met the little girl and the interaction could of showcased his people change ideology. Helping people w/o asking for something in return. After the melting the snow (which by the way w3as sorely lacking from how much was described in the LN. The battle with the snow buffalo was toned to just a day in the office. The Giant Treant battle was too short. There was a lot of danger. Other than that I was pleased with the episode. I agree that nothing can be completely animated like the light novel. The most stand out part of magic was his turning the blizzard into blue sky. That shows his potential of power.

The fake smile goes deeper than just keeping people at arms length because of eris. In the LN he keeps it on his face and acts super passive/submissive because he is still traumatized by his run in with Orsted. He will do anything to keep from upsetting the wrong person again. This definitely could have been 2 episodes tho. It is what it is, as long as this leaves more time for later arcs.

I totally expected these first couple of episodes, the whole adventurer arc, to be paced extremely quickly. Based on how many light novels the first season covered and iirc Roxy showing up in the promotional materials of this season. That creates a couple of potential end points for the season, but the adventurer arc and is significantly less relevant than the next couple of arcs that will likely also be included in this season in order to get up to, or past, the reintroduction of Roxy. Which at the current pacing, that means there will be a 3rd season that will wrap up the story. However, that does mean some of the minor story beats will need to be rushed, let alone how quickly things will start moving once Rudy starts traveling a bunch.

I think this episode feels rushed, but not necessarily because of how much content is in the episode. In my opinion it's more how it's presented (and I'm not talking about art or animation). Although the characters say that time is passing, it never really feels like it. It's just one moment and then another moment and then the next one, without the feeling of time passing, which makes the whole episode feel disconnected and especially Sara's development at the end feel our of nowhere. That scene in particular feels off to me, because she very suddenly flips on her attitude towards Rudy. Yes, I know she already started to like him before and he just saved her life. But how it's conveyed to the audience makes it feel like she just suddenly went from a complete tsundere to openly liking him. And that's the thing with this episode. On paper, the plot points make sense and are really compelling, but how it's presented makes it feel rushed and disconnected. But overall I think the episode is fine as long as the next few episodes don't have the same issues. It's not a season-ruining episode by any means, just kind of weak in comparison to the peak that the rest of Mushoku Tensei is.

As both WN and LN reader, it's justified that this volume to be quick. Yes, I think the most pertinent critique with this episode is that the focus could have been better rather than being scattered around, but the episode the volume is based on, is an extra volume not told in the WN. It's expanded upon so that, I assume, to give LN readers, who pay for the volumes, extra value on top of the main story that they might have read for free in the WN. So overall, the pacing is fine since this is not the meat of the story.

I've read the light novels and most of the web novel and I found this episode as fine. It covered all the scenes I hoped we would see. I even remember reading the scene where Rudy uses magic to handle the snow being one I hoped they took the time to show. Don't know why that scene in particular stuck out as one I recall, but it did.

I liked the episode even though I've heard they cut some stuff. I know they are limited to what they can show with air time so it's understandable, I'd rather have them focus on the bigger stuff. I am going back and reading the LN's and it's really great so far seeing all the additional context. I've also read the Manga and I highly recommend giving it a read with the additional scenes especially with the tree fight.

Go read tthe LN like I did if you want the 100% experience people, I did it taht way after finishing Season 1 and have 0 regrets, hell I even started from the Vol 1 and as Chibi says, some content got cut because that is anime for you. Guess what, there was a bunch on content skipped on teh Rudeus and Paul reunion back in Millishion.... yes, so stop. LN readers should enjoy what they get and shut their mouths regarding spoilers. I’m so immersed into mushoku tensei’s world I am going to be truly devistated when it all ends. I wish it was along the lines of a show like Naruto where it is just fleshed out with many episodes and different changes in the character we could watch for months or even years to come. Instead of the typical 12 episode seasons most animes get.

I think this episode is more focused on how Rudy is getting by, I don't think the pacing is bad at all, I think its enough to show us his day to day and also his mental state as well as his relationship with the people around him. In fact I appreciate that they make into 1 episode rather than making into 2 or 3.

Completely agree. This arc only has a few things that a really important and there's a ton of content they need to get through this season, so it's not surprising they are skimming past all of this. Unfortunately, one of them is a specific line of inner dialog that's been completely skipped, but they might be holding it off on it until next episode. There's been some very subtle hints, but we'll see next week. Another was Rudy's magic development, as he learned how to manipulate weather to stop the blizzard. This is kinda important to that side of his character development, but not too big of a deal to gloss over. I think next episode is gonna be where a some important events occur following a major realization... all of which drives the next part of the story.

Just bc something isn't integral to the overall story doesn't mean it should just be rushed through and not given the time it needs. The small things are what separate the good from the great and Mushoku Tensei deserves all the love and care it needs to do the story justice. Also I'm sure that season 1 cut out some content but as an anime only I wasn't bothered by any of it BUT as an anime only who knows nothing about what's being cut out even I noticed how much content was missing from this episode that's just how bad this episode was in terms of pacing and cut content. In general I don't have very high standards for anything in life but Mushoku Tensei is one of the few things I do have high standards for so I'm really hoping they can live up to the greatness that was season 1 but I've definitely lost a lot of faith so with how season 2's been going.

From what i read on the website i was watching it on people complain about the fact he wasn't with them when Sara went missing. Because they assume since they went the after party together they would do more mission together. But he doesn't. The problem here is that he is still hurting and not wanting to do missions with others. Not only that, Sara team is a group that only really do lower level missions that shouldn't have high risk to them. But they have always been unlucky. Which is why they ended up in a lizard nest and then punched by that guy. It is also why the other lady said to Sara that she needs to learn to play nice with many people because one day she may need to go with a different group. That plays more on their bad luck. And why they call Rudy Lucky because he can do missions alone. People dislike Rudy because people in that area do missions make a living. Most people are poor and if they don't work they don't eat. Rudy doesn't really suffer the same because he remembers his schooling in math from his old life. So he knows how to finance himself.

The problem with the transition from light novel to anime is the lack of inner monolog from different characters or explanations of the situation from an objective point of view. I read the light and web novel after turning point 2 in the anime, knowing good and well that there would be parts in the anime I wouldn't enjoy as much. I read after overlord s3 and loved the LNs but season 4 was trash to me since I read the LN. Season 1 of mushoku tensei and season 1-3 held up pretty well for me bc I watched them first and then went back to read the LNs. It expanded on something I enjoyed so much. when the new season started, it felt off bc I knew what was supposed to happen in detail, but they just just skimmed over what seemed to be crucial parts. I still enjoyed season 4 of overlord, but it was mainly for the animated combat scenes that I was looking forward too. I suspect the same will go for season 2 of mushoku tensei (and reincarnated as a slime sine I read ahead for that one, too). They will never animate all of what happens in a light novel, so you need to lower your expectations. That or just wait until an anime season is done before you read its LN counterpart.

4:00 In the light novels he spends more time at the refugee camp in Asura and does some jobs for them to save up money. Between that and Paul sending him some, Rudy has plenty of money to survive months without working, Rudeus is doing this to make a name for himself and hoping the fame and his good deeds lead him to Zenith.

I'm an LN reader (and WN before that came out), and I also liked this episode. Definitely wasn't perfect, but it was fine. A lot of people criticize the pacing and quality, but I think they are trying to get to the later arcs a bit faster, and invest budget into those instead. Which is a good idea for a production schedule. They'll likely touch a lot of this stuff up in the blueray later.

As an anime only, I liked the episode. I saw the title of this video before I watched it, and after watching It I thought that it was pretty good. One thing I was wondering is if the party member that got killed is censored, because half of the screen was black. If so, it just kind of sucks seeing more stuff being censored with the western/global release or whatever it's referred to as.

I had a bit of a write-up explaining my issues with the episodes 0-2 in comparison to the Light Novels. The recurring issue the episodes have is that they seem rushed. Spoilers, obviously: I would have had the Sylphiette episode after Rudeus learns Silent Fitz is Sylphiette. It tied everything around Luke and Ariel together well and allowed the reader to sympathize more with Ariel during both assassination attempts. Episode 1 rushed Rudy getting over his despondency too quickly, this impacts Episode 2 by making Soldats' response seem completely baseless, where in the light novel, he is still depressed he just realizes that there is more to live for still and doesn't choose to die. He still acts distant to most people and is regularly described as having a fake smile and creepy, overly formal behavior. We only get it once, and it was from Sara who insulted Rudy in other ways by this point. The montage at the start of Episode 2 is largely book accurate but it rushes past a couple points of world-building. Like the girl with the bruised knee initially rejects his healing because scammers would force healing upon people, charge an exorbitant amount for the service, and sell the person into slavery if they couldn't afford it. The children also return in an upcoming event. The snow drake scene also gets the feeling that it's rushed. It's not as dramatic as the light novel and the anime doesn't let the situation breathe. It's effectively resolved before it feels like a dangerous situation. The same thing happens with the elder treen't. In the light novel Rudy _does_ stop the blizzard, but only for his immediate vicinity, not the entire storm itself. He does this because he doesn't want to disrupt the weather patterns too much. The fight with the treen't also simply takes a lot longer and the treen't is a lot larger in the Light Novels. Rudeus describes it as an "MMO Raid boss" where the target is huge but only has a select number of attacks. After realizing this, the treent starts acting more erratically, Rudeus thinks that it's getting desperate and uses an opportunity to get Sara out of the treents roots. The recurring issue in episodes 0-2 seems like the studio is being hasty and isn't letting anything develop in a natural way. They didn't have this issue in season 1. Theyre still serviceable and I might like them more whem I binge watch it with all the English voice acting, but it seems like just a couple of misfires are preventing this good show from being a great show in season 2.

This episode felt more like the director trying to knock out plot points rather than focusing on a specific tone/theme. I think if they focused on Rudy's perspective of trying to push through and do his best to be socially pleasant contrasted with other people's perception of him, it would've felt more cohesive. So ultimately what's really missing from this was more internal monologue, especially during that bar scene
