The day my partner asks me for an open relationship is the day I walk out of their life. Most of the open relationships I know of are 🚩 relationships where one person suggests it & the other person goes along with it so they don’t lose them. I know it works for many, but it ain’t for me. I think it’s a doorway to trouble & there’s no way I could handle it 🤷🏻♀️
@md.md162 жыл бұрын
Exactly. And you can see she was still trying to act as monogamous as soon as he mentioned seeing someone again. She knew at that point it might be more than physical interaction. It seems she agreed to an open relationship without actually understanding what that is. On the other side, an open relationship is just an excuse to keep your options open and go cheat, while the other person is desperate enough to pretend they don't care, as long as you don't leave them. The level of clinginess and low self love is incredible. I know for my dearest life I would never share anyone, either with me 100% or out. No point to fight keeping someone if they don't even see you as enough for a normal relationship. 🙄

@aliciauseph2 жыл бұрын
Yeah, unlike the other situations, something was off about her. For 1, they agreed to an open relationship, and her Ex had open communication about who he wanted to see again. For whatever reason, I believe she felt frightened, and that caused the broke up IMO. However, to insist or demand your ex doesn't date someone you disapprove of is wired to me. He continued to be open and honest about his relationships and tried to maintain a friendship with her. Even though he didn't owe her anything. She walked away from the relationship and her "friend" because of envy and jealousy.
@winter_s_442 жыл бұрын
Trying to understand how “open relationship” translates to “you can’t see the person you saw during our open relationship even after we are no longer together.” Theoretically, those in open relationships are truly “open” and understanding of the fact that you have different experiences with different people, and limiting yourself is limiting your growth. Doesn’t this automatically imply that you understand that the possibility of feelings developing at some point is real? If the parameters you set are to not see same person twice, then fine. But, to then have an issue with it even after you are no longer together, like please, there was nothing “open” about your relationship. You just wanted to screw other people.

Lol the concept of an open relationship honestly makes no sense. Telling your SO that they can spend time with someone in a romantic context but not develop feelings for them is like putting a glass of water in front of someone thirsty and telling them not to drink it. Makes no sense.
@darkchurchhill2 жыл бұрын
It's about boundaries and rules like all other relationships. Just cuz you're allowed to see other people doesn't mean you're allowed to see anyone. If something makes your partner uncomfortable don't do it. I think not wanting your partner to seriously date someone you had a hunch about is impossible to enforce but a understandable feeling (the same way it's considered rude to date your last partner's friends). At that point though it isn't about their past romantic relationship, but their current friendship.

What I do know is that ending a relationship without talking everything through with your partner, no matter hard that is, and giving them closure, is one of the ultimately cruelest things you can do to a person. It happened to me 3.5 years ago and the grief and trauma hasn't subsided. I know it's trendy to applaud people for choosing to 'block and move on', particularly when the people doing so are women - but there is another side we don't see.
@RayRayCharles982 жыл бұрын
Ive gone back and forth about this concept a lot and with where Im currently at now, Id have to disagree. If someone wrongs you enough for you to want to end a committed relationship, the person who has been wronged doesn't owe the other person anything. If they want to just cut them off and block them, that's vaild. Giving the person that did the harm closure, especially if the person that was harmed truly doesn't need it to move forward with their life, that's a luxury rewarded to the person that did the harm and really isnt, or should it be, a requirement

I had a situation like this happen to me. I was 17, and I met this guy at a retreat for teens with trauma/addictions. We created a bond and started dating. We were dating for a few months and he wanted to have sex. I wasn’t ready bcuz I was abused so it was something I was scared of. The last time I saw him he said “maybe you’re just making your abuse up. You were a little kid, how could you remember”. That broke me. One day, he took a while to respond so I told myself it’s ok to not respond back quickly. I ended up not responding to him again, and he didn’t seem to respond back either. It’s been 10 yrs and although it seems like he didn’t respect me, I do feel bad for not breaking up with him in person.

I get it. But I personally don’t look for closure and it is best for me. I “block and move on” when people betray my trust. I do not owe an explanation or a declaration of my departure from the relationship when they’ve clearly ticked me over. And I don’t want to hear anything from them. I don’t want to give them the opportunity to manipulate me or gaslight their way back into the relationship. I’ve seen it happen too many time to let it happen to me.
