Yeah...I think the spirit of the law was coming from one dog being unleashed causing harm and being 100% responsible. I don't think it meant 2 dogs get into a fight and whoever wins has to pay for the other side. Though I wonder how they would have done it if both sides had to go to the vet? Even if the Lab was just a little damaged...Would it be then both sides pay for their own or the winner has to pay?

My ex-husband used to open the door and let his dog out every day. Rocky would head down the street and go into the neighbors yards all the time and one neighbor actually threatened to shoot him if he continued to do so. One evening our son was leaving his dads house and Rocky followed the car down the road. He ended up getting hit and dying. I used to tell my ex that one day this was going to happen if he continued to allow him to run loose. He is lucky Rocky never got attacked like this dog did.

These small dogs are like rats and squirrels to these birds and they're just gonna get ripped to shreds! Only different thing is here vs other dog cases is that neither were pit bulls. I've only seen 2 cases here now that had dog attacks that weren't a pit or pit mixed.

My family had dogs my entire life. When I was in junior high and high school (ages 11 to 17) 1977 to 1985 we would wake up in the am and let our dog out to do his "Morning Doody", and he would return with no incidents, and other dogs were doing the same thing and there were no incidents. Maybe dogs were more chill back then...LOL. I do see more aggression when walking dogs present day even when leashed. I would love to know the reason for the difference between the years, but since the leash law was put into place all dogs after that were leashed when they go out.

This happened to me!!!!! My dog hurt another dog. Both had escaped. My dog has Apple air tag and a gps and a fence though and metal bars going down beneath the ground next to the fence where she digs holes. …. German shepherds…. lol

This reminds me of a time I had a pup in my household(roommates dog), and my dog was with my mom came by. 100lbs dog vs 10lbs dog. The big dog did pick up small dog and shake her like a rag doll or toy. Small dog pooped herself, luckily she was fine no punctures wounds. But it was probably my fault bc the big dog was just playing hard with us and they showed up she was still playing. Could have ended badly which I would have considered my fault but the law would have said otherwise.

The judge has said before that if there is a dog fight in an owner’s yard, even if that dog is off lead, it is held to be defending its territory and the other dog owner is at fault. But a fight in the street, the owners are on their own, even if one is leashed. Dogs will be dogs, as JMM often says.

Labs are very rarely aggressive. It's not really in their nature. The defendant didn't socialize his dog enough, apparently. Also, JM needs to freaking chill during this case. Jesus christ, woman. You do realize America is a massive country? There is no universal pattern for houses and yards for the entire country. We have different style houses and yards depending where you live. And each state and county have their own regulations on how you maintain your property. Some neighborhoods have fenced or gated yards some don’t. Some houses don’t have yards at all.

@adriannashaw7523 it varies by state city and neighborhood depending on style the suburbs, city, downtown, metropolitan neighborhoods etc in farmland states most aren’t fully fenced due to huge acres and if they are they are just to keep cattle and livestock in that’s why they train dogs to keep livestock safe . I live in California most properties were I live have fully fenced in backyard with 6ft walls at time homes were built none had front yards fenced I did add a brick 🧱 wall and pillars in 2019 because i wanted to have peace of mind on my cars and install an electric driveway wrought iron gate and 3 more through out my property to keep my outdoor space areas safe private and secluded if I have company over and need to keep my dogs confined in one yard. It’s not something that everyone is going to do it was roughly 15k to do the whole front of my home with everything including light fixtures on pillars and door locks the design was beautiful but took a lot of hand labor time. I was quoted 7k for the same job if use cinder block but I don’t think it will improve curb appeal if done just with cinder blocks . So to answer your question it depends up to the neighborhood/city and homeowner if a fence it’s ok to put in. I love my fence 6ft tall I don’t get any solicitors and people trying to steal my catalytic converters from my cars nope not us lol 3 of my neighbors been hit and all I said was get yourself a property fence or gate secure your home now days is a must
