You also don't get a rental car without a license-- they'll sell you insurance at the rental place if you don't have it, or extra insurance if you do, but they won't give you a car without a valid license.

Apparently her grandson who she likely thinks is the best thing since sliced bread was more important than her daughter. It’s common sense that insurance becomes a problem if you give a car to an unlicensed driver. The agreement clearly was the daughter used the car day to day then when the mother needed to go anywhere the daughter showed up and took her. My guess is the grandson talked her into getting the car for him. I really hope for her sake that the grandson is willing to take her everywhere she needs to go like the daughter did. Edit: I meant to make this a general comment but it ended up under your comment by accident. I’m sorry.

@@Childfree334 I don't think it was money. It was care. In my family, a lot of the women bend over backwards for the child or grandchild who are not doing well. Before Nicolette's siblings probably got the shaft from the mother, because she was taking care of her over them. Nicolette got on her feet, so now the mother was doing too much for the grandson who has no license but drives and has several children with a sick mother. I'm sure Grandma is paying for more than utilities with her Social Security. Nicollette felt like she was being thrown to the side for a ne'er do well. I know that feeling.

She seems like the type that 'raises the girls but nurtures the boys'. The grandson has her wrapped around his finger. She understood what it meant to call the police on her daughter. It's amazing how easily she told Doug that the relationship with her daughter was over. She didn't stutter or bat an eye over that. She had more sympathy for the 'fiance' in the hospital with stomach issues than she had for her own daughter.

I just love how having a driver's license is irrelevant to the defendant and her family. Presumably Courtney's having to take the rental car back is that he just lost his license, because the only other alternative is that he committed fraud when he rented the car in the first place.

I'm so glad someone else said this, too many times I've seen people on this show judge others for sueing their family & never stop to think how things got that way. It's very easy to say "I'd never sue my family" when you aren't the one being treated poorly by your family like your mother, father, bother, sister whoever it might be but when you spend a good amount of time being taken advantage of by the people who are supposed to love you the most things change & at some point you have to stand up for yourself. Also just because they are ur parents and raised/gave birth to you does not mean you OWE them anything you take care of ur parents when they get old because you love them not because you owe them, parents who say "I gave birth to you so you owe me!" Are creating a very bad sometimes toxic relationship it can be very hurtful to the child's view of relationships.

She probably thought about that when it was solely her name on the title. My first car when I was 18 was in my mother's name because it was cheaper for insurance; she just had me listed as a driver on her policy. It also meant she'd threaten to call and report it stolen if I didn't do what she wanted when she wanted it, if I got mouthy she'd take my keys and leave me stranded with no way to get to work until she felt like I was stressed enough to 'learn my lesson'

It's sad that the mom sent the police. Hindsight is 20/20. But I wonder if when the cops arrived the daughter could have or should have told the police that the mom doesn't have a license. And if the mom had someone else drive the care away, maybe she could have cancelled the insurance immediately that way no one could drive the car. This is so sad that a mother and daughter are fighting over money. I miss my mom. Today, July 6th, would have been my mom's 87th birthday.

Why is a future (grand)daughter-in-law "FDIL" who obviously has serious entitlement issues like the mother 🤦why is that person & the grandson more important than mom's own daughter?? chances are the GSson and "FDIL" unemployed & with kids, cuz Grandma enables them (1/2 the rent & ALL the utilities???) but Grandma's SS supports all of them except the daughter! 🤦🤦 D had a legitimate agreement with her own mother but Mom totally ignores the laws regarding lawfully driving a car. Another wager easily won: "FDIL" has suspended DL, zero insurance and either her or GS crash the car soon after driving. Then all bets are off - cuz ZERO car at all. I'm not a gambler but those of us who watch these Court shows know the odds favor their bad choices, not the daughter. Very sad. Toxic mom, is correct, per other comments here 💔

The relationship is not over over a car. It is over because both women have not learned to be fiscally responsible, and the mother is of a mind set that is incompatible with having a relationship. No one owes fidelity to a parent or family member whose behavior is detrimental to their well being. Sometimes, some people have to justifiably divorce themselves from family.

Mom's got everything she wanted now but I don't think she understands that also means all of the responsibility, whenever the third party crash it, get tickets or any number of things that could and probably will go wrong, she's going to be left holding the bag. The third parties sound conniving and manipulative, the daughter is better off staying away from them all.

This is so like black mothers and grandmothers. They will bend over backwards and trample all over their daughters and granddaughters to make a way for a son/grandson. Her daughter is sick with MS. She took the car from her to help her able bodied grandson who has no driver’s license and his out of wedlock children that he made with a young woman he hasn’t bothered to marry. The grandmother is calling her a granddaughter in-law. But no she doesn’t really have that title because your grandson doesn’t respect her enough to honor her before planting all his seeds in her womb. I swear you’d think black males are handicap the way their mothers and grandmothers coddle them. They expect every girl in the family to lay down and be a bridge for black men to cross over. It’s absolutely insane! I’m glad the judge let her out of the contract. Now, your pseudo granddaughter in law can drive grandma around and grandma can pay the full $500 a month car note. The daughter was correct and whoever the mom is living with is using her. The mom chose, and there is 0 chance in hell I’d let someone loan out my car on my insurance. Just because you’re old doesn’t make you any less of an asshole. She’s going to need that daughter again one day.
