The plaintiffs paid the defendant to watch their dogs while they went on vacation. When they went to pick up their pets, the defendant told them one of the dogs got hit by a car and died. They’re suing for the cost of the dog. The defendant argues he offered to refund the dog-sitting fees and buy them a new dog.

He had the money to wrap and bag the dog and put it in the deep freezer for the owners to bury or cremate the body. I was dog sitting and one of the 2 dogs died while in my care. I took it to the vet when it wasn't looking well and it actually died at the vet's office. I sent the owner a copy of the vet's diagnosis and asked how she wanted to handle the dog's body. She asked me to bury him, which I did and I planted a rose bush on his grave. She was gone for 18 months on a mission, so a month before she was due back, I rooted a cutting from that rose bush to give her so she could plant it in her yard. I would never have thrown it in the garbage. I didn't have money either, but I put the bill on a credit card and I did not ask for that money back. She did ask for the total and paid it however, since the issue was pre-existing and not my fault.

You are a wonderful person! I used to occasionally watch a friends cat and I often thought, what would I do if I went over to feed him and he was dead? I always thought that I would place the cat in a cold place for when the owner got back so she could decide. I would never have just thrown the cat in the trash. How disgusting!

No way he sold a old mix breed dog and got any kinds of money for it. I mean a Bichon mixed with a Maltese as a puppy is only worth a couple hundred but as an adult it is a lot less. I think the dog passed away and he didn't have the money for the vet to cremate.

He said he's poor numerous times. That means when he asked for $70 for the entire week to pet-sit 2 dogs, he wanted to ensure he secure the job so that he could sell the premium dog for $1,000 plus. His story didn't add up to a dead dog. It was a story he created to justify a dead dog (a dog he cannot give to the owners to cremate because he sold it to someone that gave him lots of money in exchange for the dog.) He said he's retired. Nope, the pet store fired him. Probably not the first time he sold a dog, aka dog died under his care. He's despicable.

He sold the dog. Designer hybrid dogs can go for thousands of dollars. Always use a reputable boardIng kennel, your vet or licensed pet sitter that is vetted by a service such as Rover. A red flag should have been $70 for 7 days. Usually most boarding facilties or a vet charge a minimum of $30-50 per day

Even groomers! That one poor dog that was in the news, the groomer left him under a dryer and forgot about him, and baked him to death. Good Lord. Other poor dogs have been left on tables while leashed to the table and died from jumping or falling off the table and hanging. I would never trust anyone with my dog. No one touched her unless I was right there with her. No one cares for your dog as much as you do. And people can be careless, heartless, stupid, and cruel. Dogs are innocent. Same! I had a similar experience to the plaintiffs about 8 years ago, except I left my dog with someone I loved and trusted. He had a lot of medical needs, I left him with my dad for 1 week and my ex (who I had got the dog with and lived with for the first year of the dogs life) for the second week. I took a 14 day cruise to celebrate my college graduation. My dad did a wonderful job taking care of him, giving him his meds, and his special diet, syringe feeding him when necessary. My ex did a horrible job, and took him to the bars and a friends bbq the Saturday before I got back. Multiple people at the bbq told him he should take Boston home & that he didn’t look so good…he couldn’t even stand up or walk when I got home the next day. It was horrific. He died 2 days later. He had a chronic kidney disease and because my ex wasn’t giving him his food & meds as required his kidneys went too far into failure he couldn’t be brought back from it. It was the saddest thing ever. I had been bringing him to the specialist every 4 weeks and he was doing so well, he had some bad days but most days he was happy vibrant and loving life. His vet had told me the day before when I brought him that she thinks it is his time but will leave the decision up to me, and we had an appointment to say goodbye to him that day, but she said if I felt it wasn’t his time to not show up and she would understand. I was so torn on if I should do it or not, and about an hour before the appointment he started having seizures one right after the other, they would stop for maybe 10min and then another would come. I knew it was his time. He was 15months old. It was the hardest thing I’ve ever gone through. I moved to another state the next month and having to move completely alone without him was so hard, I slept with a fur pelt my sister found at the thrift store that looked similar to his fur, every night because I missed him so much. I think if I hadn’t gone on vacation or if I hadn’t allowed my ex to have him that week (he asked to watch him the second week because at that time I was still allowing him to take him for a day or two on the weekends because it made Boston SO happy, he loved him so much) then he would have lived much longer. Idk…it was horrible. Not nearly as horrible as this woman’s experience but still, I’ve been very careful about leaving my dogs with anyone since. Only my dad, & once my mom flew to my house in Arizona to watch them while I flew to her home in NH so I could attend my sisters wedding. That’s how serious I am about not leaving them with anyone I don’t trust
