50,000lbs of Pipes Rollover - What an Accident! Back again with another wild rollover with my buddy Omar at Titan Tow. He got this job down at the ports and called me for help, so I responded with Hulk, my 50ton rotator. These jobs are always a nightmare only because the load is so unstable. Containers are the easiest thing to upright in my book, and even trailers can be brought up with ease with some classic finesse. A flatbed trailer though with an open load of pipes, held together by straps, is incredibly difficult.
In hindsight, it just might have been easier to cut the straps and start from the scratch. This option though is always my absolute last resort, and I would not be a good operator if I didn't try all other methods first. You also risk a ton of damage, such as the pipes bouncing into that street light. Imagine if the force of cutting the straps knocked it over? Yikes!
After a few different attempts, we finally got the rigging just right to get this monster upright. Unfortunately the roll messed everything up, so even though we got it upright, the shift made it impossible to transport. That's why we brought in my dad with a Landoll to transfer some of the load, then correct the trailer so my tractor can tow that too safely.
All in all a very tough and stressful job, but all the teamwork made it fun and worthwhile at the end when we all left. Thanks again Omar for the call! What did you guys all think of this tough one?

In the year or so that I have been watching this channel, I've watched a ton of Pepes video's. If there is one constant that I have always noticed, is that Josh's dad doesn't mess around. He has tons of experience working at the company, plus he's the boss, the owner of the whole operation. What he says goes! But I've also noticed another side to Josh's dad, he's a funny character. And when in moments where they can relax on the job, he will crack jokes like the best of them. Josh's dad has got me laughing my butt off quite a few times. One time I even spit out my Red Bowl it was so funny.

@@stellarproductions8888 Yeah, Josh is going to have to be just like his Dad one day, a rock solid anchor that the team knows they can rely on, not just hot on safety, but also when the toughest decisions have to be made. Doesn't have to be popular, just has to be right.

Ron Pratt had a very similar rollover a while back and it took all three of his heavies to upright it. He had to pretty much call his entire crew out and he fought that one for several hours.

The jobs I’ve done I cut the pipe off. To much risk for shifting. Plus you had to unload it anyways. Just a lesser headache to deal with. Friendly advice. Use a shorter lift line. In a lot of your videos your snatch block is mere inches from your sheave at the top of your lift, right when you need that extra couple feet of cable to finish the rollover. You’re a great operator, and I’m not hating. I love your videos. They’re great ways to share the industry. Just offering some insight

The problem with that is the street light. Those pipes with momentum could be catastrophic when released. Especially the ones on top. If they all hit that street light and it went over then I’m screwed

@PepesTowingService here was street light poles. The friendly commentator writed that he noticed that in a lot of salvaging operations/videos. I have absolutely nothing to do with your type of jobs, rotators ( tipical American thing ). Just a person who understands a bit of physics and math, but mostly on theoretical side and about 33%of practical job, okay let's say similar to your job but in much smaller, unimaginabme smaller practical ops. Often involves ropes, pulleys, straps(mostly to try to simulate something). In past weeks i am enjoying in your vids, great quality of sound and a lots of pixels. Sometimes you have quite challenging and difficult jobs plus with all weather against you. Perseverance, respect, good job ethics, taking reasonable advices from whoever, good relations with all your crew...signs that You Mr Josh have an exellent potential to go, or at least aspire to take your job on a different level. Yes! That's what I was thinking about. What do you think , And now for our friend who noticed something. Here you had the light poles and was keeping your butt from big penalties for it(if damaged), and very possible further damage to the pipes(also on your acc.). And now Mr Josh, the ball is with you. Will you pls explain why u're going to the end or very near it, when you might need those 60cm(almost 2 feet) to sometimes even a full meter(around 3.3feet). Yes, you always can re-rig it but, sometimes time has more worth than money, so... PS. I am sorry for this long text bt was also trying to practice written English . From Southern Europe, btw. Keep it safe Mr Josh and the crew(and of course, say hello to your, on first glance, interesting father(quite fast phisically(yes, he took your remark about his obesity and probably will start to work on it) not just mental plus very expeditive. An exellent example. God bless You all working men and women and keep it safe. So long.

The driver is going to get himself a DOT citation for being overweight, now we know what caused this role over in the first place. If the driver had only 4 of those massive pipes on his trailer, he wouldn't have been overweight, nor top heavy either, and a role over could have been avoided. Some comments if you please: Let's go to time 51:12 - what I saw was your dad walking between the unsecured flat bed on the left and the pipes that were on the ground on the right. I'm thinking that your dad could have been crushed - the straps on the flatbed were already strained (good job to the trucker or whomever strapped the load). I have never worked on a wrecker so excuse me for the next question- you mentioned cribbing when you first started the video. I'm wondering if that would have helped stabilize the pipes - at least to a certain point? Also- can you tell us what happened to the pipes? Some were bent at the ends - I'm wondering if someone called the supplier and told them about the accident and they sent someone to investigate or had them sent back to the manufacturer for rework? Surely- you couldn't have loaded them up to the final customer and not say anything to them! Good video!!!
