THIS IS SINGING! No autotune, no special effects, no assistance to vocals whatsoever and he did it "LIVE" as well. They don't make'em like him anymore. What a heavenly talent and might I say the most underrated singer of his era. RIP Percy, you gave of one of the most iconic songs of all time. Thank You!

@@LilFran379 Can't even call the current crop "entertainers". Doowop artists, they were entertainers, Little Richard, he's an entertainer, Chuck Berry, he's an entertainer, the Rolling Stones, they are entertainers. No one knows how to do it anymore. They lack both the skill and the soul to truly entertain.

My grandpa used to sing this to my grandmother and no matter where they were even driving he would pull over and drag her out of the car to dance. He used to sing it to her with such conviction he loved her more than life. He passed on in 2013 and grandma is now very sick and on her way out. I came here to listen to this to remind myself when it’s her time to cross over he will be there probably with the real Percy singing and dancing. I need to listen to this to remind myself she’s going to be in a better place with her love. Life can be so heartbreaking sometimes

Love still exists. I fell in love twice this year. One is still unfolding while I am not sure about the other. Love can be hard to find at any age. It took me most of my life. As the great Van Morrison wrote in The Beauty of the Days Gone By---when the heart is awake, is open, when it FEELS the beauty, then you can fall in love with another person and they will want to love you. OK, it's mumbo jumbo for you need to be ready for to fall in love.

Why didn't he get any royalties? He nad many great songs that no one could sing like him. Many tried, but couldn't compare.
@rmelin132313 жыл бұрын
@@mikeupshaw2087 My understanding is that he did write the song, when he finished it, he received some 'final touches' help from some friends. When all was done, Percy gave FULL writing credits to his friends who helped him. SUCH CLASS! The songwriters are the ones who receive royalties ad infinitum. That says a lot about Percy Sledge.

The royalties went to the writers as it should have. Percy made his money on the road and the writers got none of that $$, That was the deal back then..

Wow! I would call this Percy's song a SOUL song! He is pouring his heart into this song to communicate his lyrics to the hears everywhere. I first heard this song, when I was stationed in the southern state. And when his voice was ringing out through the radio, it was so fitting to the southern atmosphere. Funny, I didn't get to see his picture till, just now. What God-given talent Percy had, enabling us to enjoy his songs even today! May his soul rest in peace with the Lord!

And I am looking forward to the heavenly life above which the Holy Lord has invited me to come as one of His beloved sons. Please look these verses up from your own Bible and consider them, if you have not already done so.
