Perfect Dark for the N64 was ahead of its time when it was released in 2000. It was successful for several reasons: the game had advanced artificial intelligence, it pushed the N64 to its limits, and the multiplayer was on par with Unreal Tournament. The futuristic and dark settings were inspired by Blade Runner, featuring flying cars. Best console first-person shooter before Halo.

Honestly, I like this new direction. Remember, the story of the original took place in 2022, and its aesthetics were "20 minutes into the future". I think the aesthetics of this trailer are pretty on point for what "20 minutes into the future" looks like in 2024. Plus, the end of the trailer confirms aliens will still be around, so as long as they keep the crazy and cool weapons and gadgets from the original, I think this will be a good successor.

@@XanderVJ For me the deeper issue is the gameplay/structure. I really love the video game-y feel of the original, and the fact that it was a pure action game. Just like with Goldeneye and TimeSplitters, which were all done with the same general team. Whereas Crystal Dynamics make incredibly "modern" feeling games, which IMO embrace way too many bad contemporary trends. Lots of padding, gameplay that prioritizes being cinematic over being snappy, shallow stealth sections, bad modern writing ect. After the Avengers game I just don't trust them.

Nintendo Gamecubes version of a Perfect Dark sequel MADE BY RARE wouldve truly been perfect , even just the only prototype glimpse we saw of it at Spaceworld 2000 showed a much better designed Joanna dark than this one here , even though that was done 24 years ago. Ill always hate that Nintendo sold rare and that game wasnt made along with all the great new sequels and IP we lost that wouldve been properly continued😢

I don't get very excited about games often these days but I'm actually hyped about this. Maybe it's just cuz Perfect Dark for N64 was prolly my favorite game of all time. Hopefully they don't drop the ball on this and hopefully they can make a multiplayer mode that lives up to the original.

Perfect Dark is known for being the unofficial sequel to Goldeneye, arguably the most popular local multiplayer FPS of all time.
