Thanks! I've been wondering if I should do DX12 and bother with HDR (on Steam Deck OLED), or if DX11 runs and/or maybe even looks better I always wondered why some games I capped at 30fps had RLY bad input lag while others didn't. Glad to know that "Allow Tearing" wasn't to just allow screen tearing or something
@deckverse6 ай бұрын
Depends on how the game's engine interacts with the Deck’s compositor. Either cap through the quick action menu or via the game's V-Sync, which might need to disable the unified framerate control slider.
@cqllel51866 ай бұрын
@@deckverse I had to use the in game frame rate cap just so my inputs didn't take like 1 whole second to register. Allowing screen tear did help, but had very little improvement. This is on both DX11 and 12 I just removed frame rate cap in 'quick access'. I also kept vsync off in game. It seems to work well enough. May not have a perfectly flat frame time, but it's still fairly flat. HDR effects input lag, as well, but it sure does look rly good. I wish DX11 had Steam Decc preset and FSR and HDR :c

While messing around with the graphics settings I came across something really interesting. Choosing TAA basically kills the rain. I observed this issue on the PS5 version of the game as well. So even though TAA overall looks a bit better, I recommend trying FXAA. I wouldn't bother, but half the time it's raining in this game, and the lack of raindrops is really off putting.

Does the Proton Hotfix Valve released change the Pristine 30 settings or should I continue to use DirectX 11?
@ZeroChoices Жыл бұрын
Edit: This is important, Allow Tearing actually only works when your fps limiter is off on the steam deck. (It actually had screen tearing when I set the limiter off from my experience) What I hate about Witcher 3 is that for some reason the in game fps limiter has really bad frame times compared to other games But using the SD's frame limiter offers better frametimes but worse input latency The thing about this game is that the fps just goes from solid 45 fps to instantly 30 in some locations (Fyke Isle, that one bar in skellige isle that gets 20 fps no matter what, when its raining while in forests, the great escape mission) Yeah Im fine with 30 when it's responsive and smooth but this game avoids both of that.
@deckverse Жыл бұрын
For starters, the way in-engine frame rate limiters work, you unfortunately always end up with less reliable frame pacing than through V-Sync or Wayland's FPS limit in the Deck's quick menu. While "Allow Tearing" indeed the system-side vertical sync disables, it gets rid of the forced triple buffering. The latter ultimately leads to the added input latency while leveraging the quick menu's limiter...

Does the degree of TAAU sharpening affect the performance? Would like to go for pristine 30 but I really dislike how the low sharpening setting looks.
@deckverse Жыл бұрын
Not really! Although I’d recommend trying lowering the res just one step further and add the QAM FSR on top of it to have more control over the amount of added sharpening.

@ragabash2077 Жыл бұрын
Your ‘pristine’ setting looks very much the setting I’ve been using for months… but with a 40 fps lock. There are only a few areas where the performance drops below 40, and in this case lowering the resolution and using FSR helps to keep the 40 fps (rarely drops to 38-39).
@deckverse Жыл бұрын
Lowering the Res and FSR (You didn't state which level) is not what I'd personally consider "Pristine" - especially since DX12 comes with a performance tradeoff which is not worth it on Deck.
@ragabash2077 Жыл бұрын
@@deckverse Sorry I was unclear: is still use DX11 and use the Steam Deck’s FSR. The impact on graphics are bearely noticable (the text are a little less sharp but still readable), but with less GPU load. So it helps to get better battery life, but also to better avoid framerate drops when the GPU becomes the bottleneck. I’ve played for month this way, so I can really tell you that with this trick (and maybe also lowering the texture quality to High - anyway you won’t see the difference on this screen), your Pristine settings can achieve 40 fps pretty easily.
@deckverse Жыл бұрын
@@ragabash2077 Interesting - at which res are you playing then? I'd love to have a look for the quick follow-up video.
@ragabash2077 Жыл бұрын
@@deckverse 1156*768 (there is not much choice with the same aspect ratio) with FSR sharpness to 0. I suggest to test on Fyke Island in Velen, by wandering in the forest next to the fast-travel (you should be able to get there quite early in the game with a quest for Keira Metz). This place is one of those inexplicabily heavy spot. With the pristine setting uncapped, you should get around 29-33 fps. With the lower resolution, you should get above 36 fps. By lowering the foliage visibility range, you should even get 39-40 fps.

Using 40hz/40fps introduces an absurd amount of input delay on SteamOS 3.5, to the point it's borderline unplayable for me. Surely this isn't the case on earlier OS versions?
