Is Friendsgiving a real holiday? If not you could be the source of a new holiday. It actually sounds like a very good day to create.
@Leadvest7 жыл бұрын
Gristle, Friendsgiving is when you and your friends/roommates can't afford/don't want to go home to your respective parents for the relatively unimportant holiday; that is Thanksgiving. So you have it away from home with friends instead of family, doing a toned down version of the traditional meal which you really can't cook in your tiny apartment kitchen. But you try anyways, and swear next year will be a potluck/BYOB arrangement. Someone splits off from the friend group semi-permanently after finding out everyone is cool with the guy who sexually assaulted his sister. Your one friend who you always thought was cool gets really drunk and cries about his moms' cancer, and you can't help but think less of him, even though you know you're being unreasonable. Then next year he brings his girlfriend and she doesn't get along with anyone else. Then you realize Friendsgiving is just like Thanksgiving, just with a different but equally dysfunctional family.

The crisp, clean air washes away the cares of modern life and allows a traveller to examine their goals in life. @@Pxtl I don't think that's more fair at all - a meal that requires more pots and pans is generally going to be more work to cook as well as clean up, and each party doing either the cooking or the cleaning for the same meal avoids a situation where you have one person making high effort, time-consuming dinners and having to do all the clean up as well, and the other getting to enjoy that whilst only putting in basic one pot meals (and not like the one in this video haha) and calling that equivalent. It doesn't even necessarily have to be a deliberate ploy, hell it's almost certain to naturally happen to at least some degree with any two people who have reasonably different levels of cooking skill. Seriously, the only situation where your solution would be the more fair one is where one party is deliberately and maliciously dirtying dishes they don't actually need just to screw the other party over, and I'd argue that anyone in such a situation shouldn't be sharing meals or chores in the first place 😅

here's the recipe to simple cooking. pick a meat. pick a carb. pick a green vegetable (we will deal with the other vegetables later). make the meat however you like. make the carb however you'd like. don't add anything. hate it the first time you make it. when you get inspired by hatred of bland food, add something new, like garlic, ginger. green onion. begin to experiment with comlexity. if the flavor of the meat isn't right, pick a different meat. if you still don't like it, figure out how to make it properly because the meat isn't the problem it's you. (backed up because if you need an easy and simple recipe you don't know how to cook, there's nothing to be ashamed of). figure out what you are doing wrong to your ingredients. appreciate complex recipes now because you have a background of cooking and realize that it really isn't that hard to cook delicious food it just takes discipline not 'good recipes'.

What perplexes me is who on earth is the target audience of this video. I mean, you really must be hopeless if you don't know the basic things to prepare yourself a simple meal like this

This is how all cooking seems when you're depressed. Edit: I have no recollection of having made this comment and now it has 5.7k likes lol wtf Second edit, three years later: turns out I also was autistic and had ADHD looool.

Yeah and cleaning your bedroom too. I suffered the worst period of depression in my life a few years ago. My room looked like a dump (in my eyes) and seemed impossible to clean. I felt like I was hitting rock bottom and even took a picture of my room. Now when I look at that picture, it actually doesn't look that bad or that hard to clean. The only thing that does look bad is the pizza box on my bed but that's about it.

Dear god, someone finally put words to how that feels. I've been struggling to explain it to people for years. The most elaborate thing I've had the energy to make for myself in the past few months is a tie between frozen hamburger patties that you can just leave for like 6 minutes a side so you can sit down while it's cooking, and fried eggs to put on toast.
