I remember hunting potatoes with my grandfather. This is similar to how he used to prepare them. He was eventually rushed and gored by a large russet that he had cornered in a small ravine. I hunted down the monster that killed him. It's hanging on my wall now.

Yeah but it's hard to know if they're raised in grass that's free of pesticides or herbicides... Potatoes can metabolize those chemicals so it doesn't hurt them, but compounds like glyphosate have a long half life and remain stored in the spuds' bone marrow, meaning all those chemicals can leech out into the meat depending on how we cook them... I'm not being an alarmist. All's I'm saying's, stay vigilant...

Shame on you for promoting this barbaric “food” choice. Did the potatoes have a choice? No, they did not. Most of the potatoes in this country are from factory farms. They are immobilized in dirt, and force fed nutrients from the surrounding soil. They are raised in crowded conditions, and the only freedom from confinement they get is a few moments when they are bathed, and readied for packaging. Then, they are corralled in plastic with other potatoes they may not even know, and shipped to be sold to those who will slaughter and eat them. It is truly an unconscionable process.

@@taritangeo4948 Yes, this. Baking (as in pastries and breads) is extremely sensitive to ingredient amounts, temperature and time differences, as well as technique. However with this recipe, you can get away with using half or twice as much of any one ingredient and literally nothing will go wrong. Unless it's the salt. Too much salt makes your teeth go grey.

Yeah, reduce the baking time, and you have a flavorful baked potato.

This reminds me of when my father and I would seek the glorious potato to hunt for my first time. It was cold soviet winter and the conditions were perfect to find one gathering food to store for long soviet winter going into soviet spring, with my kalash in hand and his ppsh we thought it would be no issue taking on a group of potatoes with strong Russian weapons, yet we were wrong. When we went to kill them before they could spread imperialist idea of capitalism we did not expect their ferocity and durability. My father fell at the hands of the potato and he had said to me “Dimitri my son, it is up to you now. Show them slavic might, or die trying.” I cannot remember the rest but Sergei tells me my babushka and I were to have plenty vodka for many year. I still have bottles of the juices made from their skins.

Your story reminds me of ole dude making potato wine. Me and my sis started drinking it and it was horrible, starchy and strong. I think we drank that whole damn bottle😂😂🤣🤣

It’s all fun and games now, but what happens when this video is the only reference historians have of the mythical “Potato.”

Back in 1899 I was in a potato commune. After the elders had their fill at suppertime, us kids were lucky to get a fat potato bone if anything at all. And we were happy to have it!

I love growing these every year! It's sort of turned into a family tradition. You never know how many actually made it through the season until you dig 'em up so whoever unearths the most potato flesh pods wins! The second prize goes to the person who has the most potato bones as some of them can have two inside. My friend said he found a three-boner but I don't believe him. I mean... That's just ridiculous.
