Been using this video to cut my own hair since Covid. I use a front and back mirror so I can see what I am doing. I find it’s simpler to do step 3 before step 2, as my hair is not as thick as the model, so the upper line is more visible, if I do step 3, then go back and do step 2. If my hair on top is too long, then I run a #8 through the top of my hair. If any of the lines are still noticeable, wear a hat for 2 days! After 2 days of hair-growth any imperfections are no longer visible. Perfect no scissor haircut!
@BobaDavis5 жыл бұрын
Great tutorial! You can use this technique, regardless of what level you start at. The best part about skipping the guard immediately about your lowest level is that you are setting in the everything above, allowing you to dictate how long or short you want the blend at the bottom of the fade to be, without having made the mistake of going too high up.

Basically what he means guys is zero out the bottom is the first step then blend the side hair that's left with a 2 then get your 1 and create a line oround the head then take off your guard and put your clipper to 0,5 and go around again then after that take 1 and push the lever so it becomes 1,5 and remove the upper line and then after all that go back down to middle lever and flick around the bottom line so it removes some lines and then after that put your clipper to 0 and remove some lines with the corner of the blade and then do the shape up, it's all about the tactics and how you cut I suggest you guys to watch the barber table, he tells you about the barber techniques.

Great job explaining your system. I'm a Master Barber with 36 years behind the chair. I never regret a minute of it. I love my career. I'm also an educator and one of the things I'm trying to accomplish within my industry is a "common language". Doctors have it, Attorneys have it, Accountants have it but the hair industry does not when it comes to technical training. When you were talking about your clipper settings, you referred to them as "long setting" and "short setting". Why not include what they're really referred to by seasoned barbers? Open and Closed blades, half-open, etc. I just think that it elevates an educators' credibility. Just a suggestion, pal. I just liked and followed your page. Love your work!
@TipsforClips7 жыл бұрын
Steven Michael, I really appreciate your comments and encouragement! You're certainly right, and a common language among barbers is really helpful. The reason I occasionally switch the language is so that the explanations are accessible to beginners also. I have a video out on barber terminology, where I try to go through the different terms used for the same technique. You'll also notice that in a number of my videos, in a single step I'll say two or three of the names, say, for the guards or the lengths. It's all for more appeal, since I assume that some beginners may not understand all of the terminology other videos out there present. In any case, I'll keep your advice in mind--I agree. Many thanks!

@3:00 you're using a #1 Closed to blend between #1.5 and #2? Makes no sense to me, please explain, your video is very good!
@TipsforClips7 жыл бұрын
João Neto, wow looks like I misspoke! Can't believe 12,000 people viewed without making that comment! I meant to say I used the 1 (short) first then then the 1.5 (long) to fade between the 1 and the 2. That's what I'm doing in the video, but in my voiceover explanation, I totally mixed it up! I'll be sure to release a video that fixes that. Thanks again for noticing.

João Neto, so I actually ended up putting subtitles in two areas of the video to clarify where I misspoke. Hope that helps in the meantime!
@brentcereal44876 жыл бұрын
HAHA i noticed that too and scrolled through the comments to see if i was misreading it or not :) . I write guard steps on paper because thats how i learn but when i saw the one blending above 1 and 1/2 and 2 i tried drawing it so many different ways to see how it would blend like it did in the video
@TipsforClips5 жыл бұрын
Tony Fetuccini, I don’t use the 1.5. What I refer to as the 1.5 is actually a 1 Guard in the opened position. So, you don’t need a 1.5 guard

I have a clipper set and have used it just for touch ups in between going to the barber.. I've watched numerous videos on fades, but after seeing this one, I believe I can do this. I'm going for it!!! If I mess up, I have several ball caps!! Great tutorial :)

Thank you for this! Give myself a clean fade off this. Here's the the cheat sheet I made to go back and forth to when cutting: Short setting = lever closest to blade Long setting = lever furthest to blade Med setting = mid way Start with trimmer 0 Right under corner to ball of head #2 short setting (1:01) Cut up to top hair #1 long setting (1:26) Cut band around head (about thumb wide) No clip; long setting (2:06) Cut band up to just under next line using "Up and out/Grazing technique" -- start close then swipe cut away from head *Goal is to lighten up harshness of bald below (0) not fade yet* #1 short setting (2:50) Fade second/upper line (above band) with "Up and out/Grazing technique" No clip; med setting (3:30) Fade first/lower line (below band) with bald area with "Up and out/Grazing technique" no more than half an inch up *Lower line with still be somewhat visible here* No clip; short setting (4:26) Fade first/lower line with (below band) with “CORNER up and out/grazing technique” -- only use one CORNER of blade with start close then swipe cut away from head *Lower line may still be somewhat visible here* Trimmer (5:26) Fade first/lower line with (below band) unblended areas with “CORNER up and out/grazing technique” *Pull skin taught with thumb to help cut closer Disinfectant And done! Hyrdogen Peroxide or rubbing alcohol

Try using a cape so that the client doesn't have all the hair on them and a neck duster, the clean the better client will appreciate that

The “long” setting for that specific clipper you are using equals to a 1. May confuse a lot of people.
@rizla06834 жыл бұрын
yeh i thought that didn't sound correct. So step 3 should be guard 1 on closed setting not "long" i.e it should be cutting at a number 1 not 1.5 which is what you'd get on the long setting
@alexandersandino19884 жыл бұрын
rizla0683 Eventually the higher you go the more you want to keep on opening (longer setting) blade. So you can start with the number 1 short and as you go up you start to open it which by the time it’s fully open (long setting) it’ll equal to a #2. Which will blend right in with the #2 guard closed. The comment was intended for the people who use the wahl system. You see andis clippers most of them. Open all the way up to a 1 (long setting.) while most of the Wahl clippers open up to a 0.5 (or half) (long setting).

@@findmeahandle i turned on captions but it still says 1 on the short setting to knock out the 1.5/2 line. Do i need to use 1 on the long setting to knock it out?

@@llcooll7561 at 3:05 he says 1 on short to blend between 1 and 2. But he meant put it on 1 long. Which is equivalent to 1.5. Which makes sense. 1.5 to blend between 1 and 2 line
