We know that Gerald Heyward is a generational talent… But shout out to the engineer(s) for mic’ ing and mixing the drums so skillfully. They sound crispier than Popeyes Fried Chicken!

My cousin is a famous drummer but I have seen this guy work in the studio before. He goes into lay down a track for Chris Brown. He sight reads it to perfection. One take and he sounds like he is quantiized. Love this guy and Larnel Lewis is another. These guys can make the old masters drool. Great engineering as well. Such smooth crispness. You guys can't be cheap. Love it

Watched this guy kill since I was a teen. As dope as that was he didn’t even get hype. When he does his signature move and bounce up out the chair you know he’s locked in. 💯💯♥️♥️💪🏽💪🏽 salute GH

@sevenfacecomplex it’s the same
@nosfy4 жыл бұрын
@@jesseolsson1697 It's not because the subdivisions work wildly different. A quarter note in 7/4 is worth a quarter note, whereas in 7/8 it's the same value as a half note in a quarter note time sig, for example. Not to mention the feel is different, on a metronome you can't tell the difference, but right now I'm working on a piece that has measures of 7/8, 5/8, etc. If we were to write them as 7/4, 5/4, etc., the whole flow of the piece would be thrown off!! Not to be that guy haha, just wanted to give some insight! Hope your safe in all this chaos!

Gerald must have been a world class performer, but his style remained at the 2006 Modern Drummer Festival.
@Ted_Swayinghill4 жыл бұрын
He’s one of the pioneers of Gospel musicianship since the late 80s...he’s one of the first few to cross over from gospel to R&B/Pop tours (Backed Janet Jackson, Mary J Blige, Beyoncé)He among guys like Joel Smith,Dana Davis, Jeff Davis, Lil John Roberts, the Neuble brothers, literally paved the way for a lot of gospel drummers of today to not be afraid to play multiple genres (regardless of church politics). In a way he’s like Modern Gospel music’s OG. Its just MDF2006 just put a super looked over scene in the main spotlight and it blew up.

@Ted_Swayinghill4 жыл бұрын
Dunno what you’re hearing that’s nonsense but those “fast chops” kept him working for the past 30+ years. So, if you want to hear more “placement” based stuff you can always try to find show footage of him on a tour backing a artist instead of trying to clown him for playing a track that is supposed to display his facility.
