I agree with all these takes except Earl. Earl even said in the video himself that going with Boo would be the better option. Unfortunately, he just didn’t have the numbers. 1) Yau-Man didn’t have the hindsight that Dreamz would betray him, so he was keeping him around until final 4 no matter what. 2) Cassandra knew Dreamz was her best option to win the game (as everyone thought it would be a final 2). No way she was going to vote him out ever. 3) Dreamz ain’t Tyson, he’s not going to vote himself out 🤣. With all that in mind, it’s a bit unfair to say this was a bad move for Earl. His hands were tied.

Yau-Man says if he and Earl think Dreamz is not being serious that they should just vote him out right now at final 5. I think that means Earl can swing it whatever way he wants.

Another issue is that Boo wouldn't have been a better option for Earl. There was no way Boo is taking Earl to a final 2. In Todd’s defense, he couldn’t be too reliant on James finding the Zhan Hu idol. Him tipping James for another idol would mean nothing if anyone from Zhan Hu had already found it, and there was a good chance they did, since Zhan Hu had already won a reward challenge (specifically on episode 3, that boat brawl), so in that case, James would be defenseless without the idol Todd gave him.

Tony in Winners at War also made a move that almost torpedoed his game in the Final 5. Tony, at this point, wanted Michelle out, but if Michelle does go home in this round he's in a much worse situation at the final 4. Assuming Natalie still goes on to win final 4 immunity, but with Michelle gone, she's taking Sarah with her to the end instead, which means Tony is making fire against Ben, which he is going to get DESTROYED at. And then in a final three between Sarah Nat and Ben, Sarah probably wins. So yeah, Sarah's desire to make a move against Tony actually screwed her own game over, and was Tony's saving grace.
@boomz25268 ай бұрын
I think Ben throws fire making to Tony. He knew the jury wouldn't respect him and wanted to help one of Tony or Sarah win the game. Even if he doesn't, it's still smarter to go for 2/3 people taking you to FTC if they win final immunity instead of 1/3. Tony didn't think he would win fire against anyone, so it made a lot more sense for him to maximize a scenario where he doesn't have to make fire
@roger_towny_jr8 ай бұрын
@@boomz2526 But he was more in favor of Sarah winning than Tony. If he knows that beating Tony at fire helps Sarah win, he's gonna do it.
@mikenadj.j43558 ай бұрын
He has explained this. Sarah voting Ben out did work out perfectly in this scenario as Ben would have destroyed him in fire if Natalie still won immunity that round. It’s very easy to say this was a bad move in hindsight because Natalie won final immunity. He didn’t want to vote out Ben because of the pact he made and his personal relationship with him. If Michele is out and Ben is there, he has a 3/4 chance of being guaranteed to be in the final 3. He could win the challenge, Sarah would take him if she won, and Ben would take out Natalie himself if he won. That alliance would never voluntarily take each other or turn on each other except when Ben gives her permission. The math makes sense, if Michele is there he has a 50-50 shot of being in fire no matter what. It just happened to work as Natalie win immunity but those are the risks in the game that you can’t control sometimes. You have to remember that Natalie and Michele also voted out Ben who could have taken out Tony at fire if they won the last challenge. They just were terrified of going against him in fire if they don’t win. Natalie you can say in hindsight should have wanted out Michele given she wins the next challenge and could of have used Ben to take out Tony. This is all in hindsight, everybody’s decision in Final 5 makes sense for their game even though some of them could of went left instead of right and it would’ve turned out different. You can’t predict the future and people are not accounting for this when they talk about this round.
@roger_towny_jr8 ай бұрын
@mikenadj.j4355 I understand the logic behind his move. But the fact of the matter is neither Ben or Sarah had won a single immunity challenge up to that point. Banking on either he winning and endurance challenge against Natalie OR on one of them winning AND them taking him to the end over the first boot when he is clearly the top dog to win the whole game AND that Ben is closer to Sarah than he is with him so... Yeah taking out the biggest obstacle in the fire challenge was the optimal move at that point.

Completely disagree with Tyson's not playing the idol being outright bad, as 1) It was highly unlikely from his perspective that Ciera was flipping in the first place. She'd have to risk a 1 in 3 chance of being instantly eliminated just for a 1 in 3 chance of improving her position. No player since rocks were instituted 23 seasons ago was willing to take that kind of gamble. 2) With the way idol clues were given that season, if Tyson played his idol ANY of Hayden/Tina/Laura M. would've given their idol clue to Katie or Ciera and Tyson is probably idoled out the next round, especially if Ciera still wins immunity. Tyson needed that idol not to reenter circulation, and 3) By not playing his idol Tyson has a 2 in 3 shot of a VERY secure winning position, and given the 1 in 3 chance still gives him the safety net of Redemption Island and the aforementioned risk of an idol being played against him otherwise he hedged his bets the right way, especially given his challenge ability.
@kangalotto8 ай бұрын
But if tyson has any doubts about Ciera then he should play it on either him or Monica and it becomes impossible for any of his 3 to go home. Gervase has immunity so he doesn't draw. So if he plays the idol on Monica then Hayden goes home. If he plays the idol on himself then he is immune from Rocks and Monica is also as she was part of the tie. Then only Katie and Ciera would have to draw. In that case if Ciera is as smart as people think, she flips her vote on the revote back to Tysons side. It was zero risk if he played it, but a 33% chance of being rocked out if he didnt
@NYChica232 ай бұрын
Only problem with point 3 is that it's not a for sure thing that Tyson wins the final duel to come back in the game, because while he is a strong challenge threat, the final duel was an endurance one, and in case anyone forgot how Australia went, Tina lasted 10 hours (yes, you read that right) in the endurance immunity then before throwing it to Keith, who was in more danger than she was, so she could very well have beaten Tyson in that duel, and he'd be screwed out of luck

The Fiji scenario is much more complicated than that because of the day 1 alliances that were made, there was absolutely no way earl wasn’t getting to the end of the game, the literal only person who wasn’t taking him to a final 2 was dreamz and even dreamz wasn’t sure. Cassandra has said post show she would’ve cut dreamz had he given up that necklace and of course yau takes earl. That’s why yau tries to take out Cassandra instead of earl at the final 4, because he knew Cassandra was never going to vote for earl and dreamz probably wouldn’t either. He had basically already won the game by the final 7, so it wasn’t that big of a deal that he cut boo at 5. Was it the best move? Maybe not. Some other poor moves by winners: -Mike’s F9. He knew Rodney and the alliance were turning on him but Backing out of the loved ones letter at the auction was a terrible look, and choosing to confront him while they were being read only solidified his standing on the bottom -Wendell giving up his loved ones visit. He pisses off half the remaining players (all women) to get an advantage for a challenge he didn’t even win. Had Domenick not gotten too cocky with his final tribal speech this move would probably be cited as a major reason why he could have lost Chris getting voted out-the original plan was for David and Devens to blindside Wentworth, and they told Chris not to tell WarDog. What does he do? He tells WarDog who flips the target onto him and the lack of trust from Chris caused David and Devens to go along with it. If not for the edge he’s remembered as a pre merge boot who created his own demise Dee at f5-Julie was considered a threat and yet Dee was so unwilling to vote for her despite being the biggest jury threat remaining. Though I can kinda give this a pass since even if Dee does vote Julie there could still be a tie between the two of them, with katurah and Jake having the advantage in a revote to get Dee out. The only way she survives is if katurah backs out which is what we got anyway, but Dee still doesn’t do what’s in her best interest here

If there is a better player of a given season, they should be able to recognize the threat and get tgem out before FTC. As for most deserving. The jury is always objectively right in voting for one of the final 2 or 3 that make it to FTC. It doesn’t matter if we as the jury likes how the winner got to the end. If they have the jury management to get the votes that means they outplayed the player who was supposedly the best or most deserving player. This doesn’t mean the other players aren’t deserving. The way the winner made it to the end and how they worked the jury worked. Like it or not.

Part of me thinks Tyson playing his idol would have actually screwed him more, and it’s crazy to think. It depends on who comes back in the game. If Tyson plays his idol on Monica, then Hayden gets idoled out. I think Tina actually loses the redemption duel, since the Jail Break challenge is a little bit strategic/carnival gamey, and Hayden probably could do well (it’s also been a challenge on Big Brother before). Ciera still wins immunity and I doubt Monica flips, so Katie goes. Laura beat Hayden in the last redemption duel so it comes down to Katie vs. Laura. Now if I remember correctly, Laura had ACL surgery in the past, so she was eventually going to give out, and Katie was decent at endurance. So it’s possible that Katie makes it further. Here’s how it probably plays out: Katie wins the duel, she just takes Tina’s spot as 4th place. Tyson doesn’t need to save Gervase with the idol because Monica won’t flip to work with Katie and Ciera (she didn’t have any bond with them from what I remember). Tyson still wins. Laura wins, now this time Laura and Ciera are together at the final 5. It’s hard to speculate who wins those last two challenges, but Laura potentially could win the Final 5 immunity, and with Tyson most likely not having an idol, there’s a world where Monica flips to Laura and Ciera here since Tyson’s wide-open. If Tyson wins immunity still, the flip is still likely especially if Tyson doesn’t have an idol to leverage, but then again Monica knows she’s fucked if Tyson wins at 4 (and Tyson probably knows he wins if both Laura and Ciera are in the Final 3 with him together because then those votes get split). With how much of a challenge beast Laura was, it is definitely possible that Tyson playing his idol would have caused him trouble. It comes down to if Laura can outlast Katie in the last redemption challenge, and if Laura can beat Tyson in the Final 5 immunity challenge. Also, if Tyson idols himself at 6, like everyone thinks he should, then Ciera votes out Hayden in the revote because only her and Katie would draw rocks. I don’t see Ciera risking that when she now has no chance to get Tyson or Monica out. Hell, Katie probably changes her vote to Hayden out of self-preservation. So, Tyson not playing the idol was bad because he relief on luck. It was a very results-oriented move that worked, but he had potentially worse odds without his idol.

Bob's move wasn't really bad. Bad for getting Randy's vote? Sure, but he was never gonna vote for anyone in the Fang alliance outside of Kenny or Matty unless Bob REALLY messed up his FTC. It ensured Randy would be sent home that night and not him. It also endeared him to the others so that they were willing to send Corrine home next. Bob was just trying to make sure it wasn't him. I doubt he thought he could go on a crazy immunity run. Also, it was something for him to be able to point to as playing the game. Bob even admits that it was one of his few strategic moves. It wasn't a great move, but I wouldn't call it bad. Todd's plan was another I wouldn't call bad. He didn't know for certain if the other idol was there or if it had already been found somehow. He considered James a close ally and wanted to ensure he was safe, otherwise the merge would have been even between the 2 original tribes. His plan by all means should have worked. James's tribe had just thrown the previous challenge to get rid of Aaron, he thought it was likely they'd try again (because it made sense for them to do so strategically) and with James trying to throw, it should have been a slam dunk! James would have had to burn 1 idol, meaning he'd only have 1 left to use at the merge. Really this had more to do with bad luck. Yes, Todd could have just thrown the challenge, but again, he thought the other tribe was trying to throw and the bigger threats were on the other tribe with James. I believe he also thought James was going to give him an idol back, but didn't want to confront him about it. I'm confused. What move did Denise make that was bad here? Considering taking someone is not a move. Seems clear she was more emotionally conflicted about it. Malcolm was her person the whole game. Also, Lisa wasn't a complete goat. Against anyone aside from Malcolm and Denise, she probally gets more votes and could even win in some scenarios. If I recall correctly, Skupin wanted to take Malcolm over her to end. In the end she made the right move. Yes, she offered to force a tie, but that's what you should do when you're a possibility to be voted out. You're making an assumption that Earl believed that Dreamz was going to keep his word. You even show the clip of him questioning it lol. I think everyone questioned it. Second, even if Dreamz did, it's possible Yau and Earl make a deal to go to final 2 together or just decide to help the other out, as it makes sense for them to do. They could just vote for Cassandra and beat her in fire easily. Both would know they had to win immunity in the final 3 otherwise. I think Earl actually beats Yau in a final tribal council. It was very similar Yul/Ozzy situation. Earl was viewed as the leader of the alliance. Boo was also a challenge threat and much bigger jury threat than Dreamz and Cassandra. Finally, why do we assume Earl could have gotten rid of Dreamz? That was Cassandra's final 2 plan and Yau would have wanted Dreamz around to increase his chances of getting immunity. I'm not a mathematician, but 3 out of 5 is the majority. Earl would have had to use his idol on him, but that's a scary thing to do at 5. I think he played the situation right. Tyson explained his logic about not playing it and it makes sense actually. First off, he didn't know for sure if Ciera was going to rocks. He had just wasted an idol the vote before. Second, he had a 2 in 3 chance of staying and keeping the numbers. Third, he had redemption island to get back in and he's really good at challenges. He wanted to save the idol for when redemption island wasn't in play. All the odds were in his favor. I think Tyson believed Monica and Gervase may have decided to flip on him at some point. Hayden had thrown a huge target on his back and playing another idol would likely magnify it. Not a move I like (I'd prefer to just guarantee I make it to the next vote with my allies having the numbers), but I get where he's coming from. I'd say there were far worse moves made by winners: Jenna giving immunity to Heidi, Parvati and Aras trying to take Cirie to the end. Mike taking Carolyn to the end are some examples.

Let anyone talking crap about Gen X please recall our generation had a Final 4, 3 Black and 1 Asian and Black Unanimous Winner. :P

Peridiam, are you sure that Tyson could have played his idol on a revote? It's never happened in the show, and I don't recall Jeff ever asking if anyone wanted to play an advantage in a re-vote. If it's not allowed then Tyson's mistake was misreading the room and not realizing that it was going to be a 3-3 tie.

Todd also could of just told James to get the idol from his camp and then throw the challenge… he probably would’ve listened and it costs Todd nothing. Obviously someone could’ve already found the idol at their camp but it beats giving him the idol.
@ashen_roses8 ай бұрын
I thought the reason James didn't throw was because he was against Denise and Denise literally actually could not.
@XanderMatthews-nv9zf8 ай бұрын
But then if James can’t get his idol, if it had been found before, then Zhan Hu would have in theory thrown the challenge again and voted out James evening the tribal numbers 5-5 Keeping James was more important than the threat of him having 2 idols, it’s not like he was immune at the final 9 or 8 so they weren’t lacking in options

How did todd’s idol play go from one of the best flashy moves by a winner to a bad move? Did your opinion change?

this is such an oddly specific topic but i guess that’s what happens when you make weekly survivor videos for how many years lol

Dee was carried by Austin and Drew to the final, there's never been a survivor winner who had such an easy journey without any struggle or hardship.

It erased all of Philippines. But JT giving the idol to Russell doesn't erase Tocantins... 🤔🤔🤔🤔
@ajl97728 ай бұрын
I disagree with that assessment. WaW she broke down at the merge. Beforehand, she blindsided Sandra. I disagreed with the move, but it shows shes not just a follower. At some point during the merge, she just became exhausted and was done with the game. Maybe the elements were worse or her being older made it more difficult this time. She survived EVERY tribal her first season and won the game. You dont do that by being just a follower.

DIsagree Hard. After the move to take Sandra out, Denise did EXACTLY what she should have: dissappear into the background and keep her eyes and ears open and her mouth shut. She won two individual immunities. Towards endgame she was able to talk openly about ther thoughts on players without it backfiring on her (like when she talked about Tony's win equity in front of Tony's biggest allies and Tony himself up in his spy nest, and they STILL targeted Nick over her, probably cuse in their heart of hearts, Ben and Sarah knew she was right) She also cultivated more fire tokens than any non edge in the game. It was just BS that while players on edge could use their tokens for Idols and advantages in challenges, but in game all she could do was buy more rice. 🤦♂️ And she was only voted out at the final six revote after FOUR of the six players were immune. I'd say she played just fine. And in another univers where the fire token system actually made sense and she did have another idol, and Sarah got advantagegeddoned at six, Michelle goes at five. Nat wins immunity at four, takes Denise and let's Ben crush Tony at fire, in a final three against Ben and Nat, I believe Denise DEFINITELY has a shot at the W.

@@machoman1016 Giving the idol was a high risk high reward play. His concern was an all girls alliance. Amanda and Candice were tied to Parvati. If Parvati was gone and Russell was around, then it killed any chance of that happening. If he had been right, it would have been the best move of the season. Game Changers I can't defend. Telling Brad the plan in front of everyone was bad enough and him getting blindsided with the idol was inexcusable.
