PERIDOT TELLS OFF YELLOW DIAMOND?! Reacting to Steven Universe Season 2 FINALE! Ep. 25 & 26

I think something that people kinda miss is that Peridot never planned on betraying the crystal gems, it was all just miscommunication. She believed yellow diamonds judgement to be objectively correct, and so she planned to do what the crystal gems wouldnt: diplomacy. Make her case to yellow diamond that theres ways the use earth resources without wiping out all life on the planet. She was so convinced that Yellow Diamond would see reason, that she fought the crystal gems to enact her plan, because in her mind it was the only logical course of action to SAVE THEM. Her covering for the gems as soon as YD picked up the phone wasnt a last minute pivot, it was her plan all along. Of course, Peridot is proven wrong. Yellow Diamond is UNREASONABLE and her plan to destroy the earth isnt based in logic or efficiency, but pure spite. Peridots deified image of YD is completely shattered and she does the first thing that comes to her mind when faced with a person lacking any and all common sense: She calls her a Clod.

Yes! I love this and I never see anyone talk about it, it is definitely easy to miss so I understand people not noticing it. One of my favorite things about Peridots plan is that it shows how the Crystal Gems have successfully convinced her that they’re right and the earth does deserve to be protected but that doesn’t undo all the Homeworld propaganda she already believes, like Yellow Diamond being a perfectly rational decider.

knowing how Alec is a Broadway fan, I think it's important to point out to him that Yellow Diamond is played by the legendary Patti LuPone. Also I think Camp Pining Hearts is a spoof on Degrassi, the great Canadian Teen Soap.

Honestly, the correct “order” is fine for this part in s2, it’s just that s2 and s3 were produced as one chunk, just like the first and second half of s1, so these episodes were more like a “mid season finale” than a FINALE finale. God I love the brilliant simplicity of the way Log Date is told to the audience.

They had to do Logdate as the finale because if we saw those scenes before the moonbase incident there wouldn't have been any question that Peridot would side with them. It also explains why Garnet wasn't more scared about the possibility of peridot contacting Yellow Diamond. she already knew it would happen and was hoping they were on the good path.

While not as internet-breaking as The Return/Jailbreak, the Stevenbomb that concluded season two was immensely pleasing to the fandom, and presented a huge dump of lore. There was a hiatus of almost six months between the end of season two and the beginning of season three; the more dedicated fans spent this time relentlessly reviewing and analyzing past episodes to glean possible clues and created a jillion theories...some of them crazy and some which turned out to be essentially correct.

"Seasons" don't mean a lot with SU. They came out with batches of episodes almost randomly. Sometimes they'd drop 6 episodes at once (these became known at "Steven Bombs") and then make us wait for some random number of months, before releasing 1 or more again. So don't read to much in to a season number of "finale" designation.
