Very sad to hear about Oli Frey having passed away :( Your comment about it shaping the visual landscape of your childhood resonated with me, as I had all the Crash covers covering my entire wall at one point (Crash themselves ran a series of reprints, and was able to tile an entire wall of my room). Sorry to see you go, Oli - but you’ll continue to be remembered!

It was the art of Oliver Frey in Crash, that made me pester my parents for an airbrush. I still have a large print of the Alien 8 map.

The loss of Oli Frey is equal in magnitude as Bob Wakelin in 2018. Those covers on Zzap64 and game box artwork respectively are just as nostalgic as the games themselves. Every piece of their artwork we look at is our childhood memories of when we were deciding on what games to buy. RIP two legends of the video game art world.

I join you in mourning the loss of Oli Frey, and like you he became a friend as well as a colleague. His artwork was incredible, from the moment I first saw it (the Beyond the Forbidden Forest cover of ZZAP! issue 18). To have my reviewer portraits drawn by Oli for the Annuals and the revived ZZAP! was such a great moment. I keep resisting the LEGO stuff, and then I watch your channel and feel my resistance waning...

Oliver Frey and Zzap 64 were synonymous... You couldn't think of Zzap without thinking of Oliver's art. It was his cover artwork that drew me to Zzap first. I'm forever thankful for the joy his artwork brought me and all the great memories. Not just for the magazine, but a visual reminder in my mind's eye of that golden era of gaming and computing. Thank you Fractic family. So much of our latter years has been shaped by the early days and the sad death of Oliver Frey leaves a void into our future. The C64 was the computer that bought many of us together and filled so much of my own children's growing years. Just as the internet and mobile phones do now for my grandchildren . I a little BIOS but still firmly believe the Commodore family of computers opened a future for us on a solid rock base to move into the future. Thanks again for a look at what we were.

I'm not on social media so the news of Oli's death is very sad to hear. I adored his artwork for Zzap! 64, as a teenager living in Australia I used to look forward to going to my local newsagent to check out the latest Zzap cover and also what adventures Rockford would get up to. In my adult years, I came across the other terrific work he did as 'Zack'. What a talented man who will be missed but whose work will live on.

I will miss Oly a lot. I still jealousy keep my original issues of ZZap! from the '80s and Oly's covers on them are just gorgeous. It wasn't so common to have quality drawn covers for magazines back then. Nowadays is even less common. On the other hand, I'm very happy to see Dave Murray having fun on your channel. I feared there was some bad blood between you two and this RRS has been a real relief. You know, when you have two good friends, you really don't want to see them in bad relationship. So, in a time where the world doesn't seem to be at its best it's a very refreshing feeling!😁 LF and PF, keep up the good work!

The very first one "Heavy sixer" made in Sunnyvale the first or two years and the second "lighter" sixer made in Asia. The first one has rounded edges is heavier due to its shielding. Looking forward to the awesome Atari Lego-set, when it will be built. Have a nice day and wish you to hit the 1. Mio subscribers soon! Greetings George

I am very sad to hear about Oliver Frey, some of those classic art pieces were amazing. I look forward to the Atari VCS LEGO build. Did you know that they released a BASIC programming cartridge for that system? You had to use the numeric keypads to program it. I never bought it, but I found it quite a fascinating idea. I don't think I had any games for the Atari that actually used those keypads. By then I'd moved on to the ZX81, with an even worse keyboard than the Atari bubble switched keypads. Great show as always. Those KITT voice boxes keep on coming. Soon you'll be able to buy them ready-made on a shopping website, no doubt. Still, I hope you got the MEME with Project TikTok tuning in to Retro Recipes. That was before they moved on to providing really short videos for entertainment purposes in China. A bit of a downgrade from time travel, though. LOL. (Irwin Allen reference for those who are unaware of it.) Keep up the essential and fantastic work. We all need a little more nostalgia nowadays to lift our spirits from the current world situation.

“It’s incredible what you don’t realize you are going to miss later in life.” The mantra of every hoarder everywhere. Yes. I used to keep all my boxes and now they are worth real money for things like my commodore and nes games. BUT if I kept everything the cost of the space to keep it all would cumulatively outweigh the overall value of the items. The math that hoarders don’t get.

I have a friend who is a hosrder. The scale of which is truly staggering. The cost in time alone in managing it all prevents him from actually doing anything constructive with any of it.
