The airport shown is Paya Lebar, which was Singapore's Commericial airport from 1955 until 1981. Prior to that airlines flew into and out of Kallang and from July 1st 1981 Changi. Paya Lebar then became a RSAF air base. I have flown on airliners into and out of all 3 airports during my life.

Did you fly Lockheed Constellation Sir? Boeing 707?
@Bellakelpie2 жыл бұрын
@@misterbig9025 My first ever flight in an airliner was in a Malayan Airways DC3 ( Dakota) from Kallang to Jesselton ( now Kota Kinabalu) in 1954. Then Jesselton to Kallang and Kallang to Ipoh in 1955, just before operations there finished and Paya Lebar opened, also in a Malayan Airways Dakota. I have also flown in Qantas Lockheed Constellations and Lockheed Super Constellations , B.O.A.C. Bristol Britannia's and Comet 4's, then when they arrived, Malayan Airways/ Malaysian Airways Fokker F27 Friendships, then Qantas Boeing 707's and Air New Zealand Douglas DC8's , all into and out of Paya Lebar. I have also been a ground engineer on both the last 2 types in my younger days. Then one day I found that I could earn more money working for an oil company, so departed the airlines. 😁 I have very fond memories of those times. 😍

Nice! How's your experience back then flew from Paya Lebar Airport?
@Bellakelpie6 ай бұрын
@gomosh6967 It was very different from Changi. For a start, there were no air bridges. Arriving and departing passengers used air stairs to get down to the tarmac, or up to the cabin door. Depending upon how busy the airport was at the time , and whether or not it was raining , one either walked to or from the terminal gate, or got into a bus and was driven to or from the gate. The original terminal was not air-conditioned. Big ceiling fans provided cooling. So that meant the immigration and customs halls were also not air-conditioned. All bags had to be opened for customs inspection, because there were no bag x-ray machines. So it took a bit longer to pass through customs and immigration than it does now, even though the of the time, only carried up to maybe 130 passengers maximum. When the new terminal was opened, the immigration and customs halls were air-conditioned, as was the transit lounge. There were open public viewing areas up high, which.looked down onto the tarmac, so it was possible to get some great photos of the activity on the ramp, and arriving and departing airliners. The best time was early evening as that was when most of the ramp activity took place in those days.

During this era Chinese dialects are spoke namely Cantonese, Hokkien, Teochew, Hainanese and many others. With the four different schools namely English, Chinese(Mandarin), Malay and Tamil. Chinese educated being to start social troubles in Singapore...racial riots! That is the beginning to the birth of 'Cinapore' today!
