Thanks great job. I’ve watched most of the videos of this car and your the first to open the roof. Only one other person ran the Radio while driving. That was good too.

Glad you liked it, thanks! We don't always talk about the audio systems on these cars unless there's something interesting to note, and thinking back we probably haven't talked about many sunroofs on the cars we've features since this one.

Glad you liked it! Aside from the GoPro stuff, everything else was filmed in 4K 30fps. We'd love to be able to continue filming in 4K, we might have another few episodes come out this way but the device we've captured this episode on will need to be returned to the vendor this week 😔

Hey there, great videos you are making. Really like them. Are you planning to do a Subaru Ascent vs Toyota Highlander or Honda Pilot anytime soon?? Also Subaru Ascent vs Kia Sorento will be a pretty cool comparison too 2 very differently designed vehicles but gathering to the same segment. Any of the 2 comparison videos anytime soon?
@PRNTestDrive6 жыл бұрын
Subaru Ascent absolutely! We've asked the PR manager for Subaru to get us into one once they arrive up here. I know customers are already driving them in the US, but it's a slower roll out up here. We'd certainly like to do the Honda and Toyota, hopefully we'll be able to make something happen with those also!

7.9l/100km after 6200km on mine. Electronic parking brake doesn't take away from hill starts - this car has an auto hill assist that holds the brake on momentarily when starting on hills.

Wish the US version with manual could get the sunroof.

Very strange that they don't offer it! But we have found that there are some significant differences between the trims/options sold in Canada and the US.

Thats terrible! I've been wondering why I couldn't find a manual with the sunroof.
@jeffleung25945 жыл бұрын
Nile is just polite in saying he dislike the Electronic Parking Brake. Actually it sucks because after you pull to activate it you need to step on the brake to release it -- such a clumsy routine. Also the manual transmission comes with an auto hold and default hold features. Since you have to press to choose the auto hold function, so if you don't want it, you don't choose it, end of the story there. However the default hold will come on automatically, that is even if you don't want it, whenever you step on the brake, even after you take off your foot on the brake wanting to drive forward, the braking effect is still there for another 2 sec from the default hold. What for, because you want to go, so that you have to press the gas pedal harder to nullify the default hold -- such a stupid design. If you don't mind manual transmission to begin with, you really hate the electronic parking brake and the default hold. I nearly screwed up the day when I picked up the car from the dealer and had to start on a hill after the traffic light turned green during busy traffic and the staff did not caution me of this default hold feature that is if she knew about it.

For me it just doesn't make sense. You want to sell a car with a manual to give drivers more control over their vehicle, but then use an electronic parking brake. I believe someone else in the comments mentioned it's supposed to have an automatic hill assist, but I'd prefer to be in control of the parking brake myself, and I'd imagine that most people starting off with a manual for the first time would feel the same way.

great video, loved the detail as well as the cam quality! my question would be.... performance/engine wise, do you think the Sport DCT is worth the extra $5,700 price tag over the GL SE?
@PRNTestDrive6 жыл бұрын
I think it would be, especially if you want those extra enhanced safety features and the ventilated front seats. The DCT on the Kia Niro was smooth as butter, I imagine they're using the same one for the Elantra.

ah, thanks for your reply. i will def consider that!

Well done. Here in Australia, we've got a new [MY2018] i30turbo201hpSR but the (top in Oz) 'Premium" with DCT and a lot more 'bells & whistles' & with local suspension tuning due to our extremely varied roads. We can buy the i30N, but we're 'seniors' who don't need the super car performance like our Jag E Type we had in the sixties.
@PRNTestDrive6 жыл бұрын
The 7 DCT version here should be similar! it's the same engine we featured with this one, but all the extra safety tech and ventilated front seats. So far the Veloster N is the only N model we've heard about here, but we hear rumours that Kia is coming out with a Forte to compete with the Civic Type-R.

Why does this remind me of Mazda 3 front and GTI rear?
@PRNTestDrive6 жыл бұрын
I think the Mazda3 has a much nicer front end, but there certainly could be some inspiration from both vehicles in this.

For hill starting electric parking brake is probably not a big deal since this car has also the hill assist, even with handbrake and light pressure on brake pedal the hill assist activated and the effect is weird at least for me since is the first car with hill assist i ever drived.
@PRNTestDrive6 жыл бұрын
We didn't get a chance to try out the hill assist to be honest, I was looking for opportunities to try it out but the few times we were pointing upwards on an incline the car rolled back more than I'd have liked to so we pulled out.

The central tunnel, with electric parking brake with the manual transmission is so strange... The i30 with DCT use this layout, the manual version have a different central tunnel, with handbrake and two open Cup holders between gear stick and harmrest, also the i30 stick pomel is different. The i30 is available with full features even with manual transmission, but instead of this 1.6 turbo 200hp there's 2 different 4 cylinder engines, a 1.4 turbo with 140hp and the 2.0 turbo 275hp for the N version, the performance version.
@PRNTestDrive6 жыл бұрын
We noticed that! We checked out the i30 on the UK Hyundai website to see what was different about it. We're not sure if the N version is going to make it's way here, but we've heard some rumours about a different performance-oriented vehicle coming from the Hyundai Group in the near future.

In my humble opinion, Mazda 3, Honda Civic Hatch, Subaru Impreza Hatch and the all new 2018-19 Toyota Corolla (the new model for 18-19) are all better option for your money as a 1st new car. They may be missing on some features here and there, but as overall package they are much better choices than this Elantra Hatch. That's just my opinion, each to his own, but if it was my money and I was buying a brand new affordable hatch, any of those 4 would have been on my final list
@PRNTestDrive6 жыл бұрын
The competition in this segment is certainly getting fierce, and with Ford exiting the market here in North America manufacturers like Hyundai might have an opportunity to scoop up new customers. We definitely like the Mazda3, we hoped to film a Showdown with one but our local dealership didn't have any hatchback manuals in stock.

8.4 L/100km sound not so good for a modern hatchback with 1.6 liter and manual transmission... The i30 wagon with 1.6 turbodiesel (25cm longer than hatchback) has an average consumption of 5.1 L/100km during his first 5000km. Ok 16" rims consume a little bit less than this bigger wheels but the difference still too big only for diesel vs gasoline. The i30 coupé with 1.4 140hp and dct transmission has an average 6.5L/100km with real world consumption test...
@PRNTestDrive6 жыл бұрын
We also didn't get to drive it as much as we would have liked to outside of town. With only about 400km of driving, more than half of it within town, the mileage wasn't great. But we agree that it should be better. Chevrolet seems to be the only consumer manufacturer here with a diesel option in this segment, we have their Cruze diesel booked for later this summer.
