I thought it was a very good review, nicely presented. A lot was covered. Sorry you were not a bit more enthusiastic about the car itself. But the review seemed honest, instead of just being flattering to Nissan. Comments about interior space were a bit unfair. I've been in this car myself, and am of an average size, and never found it lacking for room front or back, but people who don't know the car personally will be taking that negative point of yours away from this review. That might be a consideration for future videos. I hope all who watch will take that comment into perspective. You do have a nice way of going over all aspects of the car and its features in your reviews. Nice.

Fantastic review. Very informative! But using wide-angle lens on the interior shots results in Wreck-It Ralph arms!

How does it compare to the Bolt for overall value?
@rustbeltrobclassic25124 жыл бұрын
Is the bolt any good? The volt was trash.. though the ev motor was pretty reliable, everything else was junk.. as a former volt owner I'd never buy anything GM electric..

@@rustbeltrobclassic2512 I drive a 2017 Volt. I have put 46k miles on it so far with only one issue that cost under $300 to fix. I guess I have just been lucky. I really like its fuel economy at highway speeds on the gas engine. I get 40 mpg at 70 mph.
@PRNTestDrive4 жыл бұрын
I personally wasn't the fan on the Volt, I found the Bolt was a much better product in terms of features, design, and overall space. I'd say the Leaf is close in terms of functionality to the 2019 Bolt, interior space should be similar between the two and the range was also. The Bolt got a battery bump for 2020, I believe it's rated just over 400km now. We've got one book later in November.

@@mikeg7845 Mike you definitely got lucky, i bought mine fully loaded right off the showroom floor.. in the summer all electric it was pretty efficient, but in the winter it averaged about 9mpg on the gas engine at 80. The real issue though was the constant issues. It was in the shop over 50 times each year. The steering tsb is by far the scariest issue, since my column separated from the rack on the highway. Had the charge port replaced twice after the first time it cost me 5k dollars to have my home electric breaker box replaced when the charger melted the breaker. The key sensor brok while running and i couldn't turn off the car, the exhaust system fell off it, airbag switch was replaced 3 times, head unit went bad twice, in the extreme cold the panels would change and you'd get wind noise and feel wind between panel gaps, the gas engine was replaced twice after the first one threw a rod the second one blew a head gasket. The pressurized gas tank failed and it wouldn't allow you to put gas in it.. and the list goes on endlessly.. not to mention the awful resale value, you're definitely lucky.. i walked more that year then i drove that car.. lol

We test drove the Bolt before getting the Leaf Plus. While hands down the bolt has better battery tech, we found the interior less comfortable, and the smaller boot (we have 3 kids) too small for luggage and Costco runs.

I always wanted to go to some of the big US auto shows, in fact I was looking forward to Detroit in the summer, I don't think I'll be getting that chance, although I can see the big 3 US makers might still support a yearly Detroit show once things get back to normal.

I HAVE 2 NISSAN LEAFS. I HAVE THE OLDER 2013 MODELS . I LOVER THEM AND DRIVE THEM ALMOST EVERY DAY. THE ONLY THING I WOULD CHANGE WOULD BE THE RANGE . IF THEY HAD BIGGER BATTERIES AND NISMO MODE THEY WOULD BE PERFECT CAR. BESIDES A TESLA OF COURSE . LOL !
@PRNTestDrive3 жыл бұрын
The technology is certainly getting there, I expect this Leaf to get a larger battery added to it before Nissan does a complete refresh of it.
@james20424 жыл бұрын
The leaf is a perfect example of why I hate current EV's. Its always "something weird, why couldn't you just be normal". I think EV adoption would be way higher if everyone took the KIA Niro approach to EV's, where the vehicle is otherwise indistinguishable from other vehicles on the road, but is a total EV. On the inside and out it looks almost identical to the KIA Sportage , with the only real differences being the grill and the small window behind the second row. But between the original prius being super weird and super quirky, and now teslas being designed as self driving vehicles with steering wheels being retrofitted, everyone thinks EV's need to be quirky and weird to sell, when in fact just the opposite is whats needed.
@PRNTestDrive4 жыл бұрын
The Niro definitely does EV's well. The Kona EV looks better than the regular Kona as far as I'm concerned. Manufacturers just need to make normal looking-EVs with good range and they'll sell. Leave the funky designs to these fly-by-night EV company startups.
@pioneer77777774 жыл бұрын
You could argue all of that "quirkiness" is not because consumers are asking for it, but rather that traditional ICE manufacturers are intentionally making their EV's less desirable to mainstream buyers so they do not cannibalize ICE sales. Lots of examples of this.
@james20424 жыл бұрын
@@pioneer7777777 The real reason is that most EV's to date were simply to meet emissions standards, so they made these cars in limited quantities on paper simply to get the EPA credit and to give people opportunity to get that federal tax credit, which meant 7500 dollars profit for the company (notice plug in hybrids and EV's have roughly a 7500 dollar msrp over their non plug in counterparts)

So when Nissan launches Ariya, will they fix LEAF the same way with proper battery liquid thermal management and a CCS charging port and proper heat pump the way Korean brands are? Or Nissan will discontinue LEAF in North America alltogether? The latter idea comes from VW not wishing to bring their new hatch ID3 to North America. To me it looks like a LEAF properly fixed would be the best in its class by trunk space and driving dynamics. Where is that experimental dual motor AWD LEAF, Nissan was playing a while ago with?
@PRNTestDrive4 жыл бұрын
I suspect the Leaf will get discontinued. It seems to be the trend with electrics, GM killed the Volt to focus on the Bolt, VW's killed the e-Golf to focus on their ID vehicles, and there's rumours that the Hyundai Ioniq will die also in favour of their larger capacity electrics like the Kona. It's hard to say for sure what Nissan will do, but I don't think we'll necessarily see a third generation Leaf.
@pioneer77777774 жыл бұрын
@@PRNTestDrive Will be interesting to see the Ariya pricing and if any deals come along. We were able to get our LEAF SL Plus for about half off of MSRP in the end after incentives. At that price the value is there big time. Not sure the Ariya will be able to deliver the same value if it's got a sky high price.

It should! I believe I read it works up to about -20ºC, I don't know if I'll have the chance to test that though, we've only got one EV booked at the start of the winter so far, I might see if a 2021 will be available during the early new year.
