When Poison was originally released, a friend sprayed some onto a hanky in my flat. I couldn’t sleep that night; the scent invaded even my sleep. Perhaps it’s time to try it again, especially the Hypnotic Poison that you mentioned. Thank you for yet another excellent episode. It softens the usual late Sunday afternoon sadness about having to go back to work in the morning.

Anthony, that's such a wonderful comment to receive, thank you :-) And yes, please do check out Poison again... but be warned, Hypnotic Poison is quite different from the original. I hope going back to work wasn't too traumatic today.

Thank you for brightening a wet Wednesday evening and being The Great Enabler - I'd ordered the Sammarco samples before you'd got halfway through! I loved Naias and bought a bottle last year, but gave it away to a family member who melted with pleasure every time she smelled it. I'm trying hard to do a comb-over with the warm glow of altruism... Looking forward to trying Yael. About the St. Giles's: I made a trip to Selfridges a few weeks ago and couldn't find them. The SA told me people had been asking for St. Giles, but she thought they were only sold via the website, which left me wondering how many Selfridges sold if people couldn't sniff them first? Do you know if they're somewhere in the store apart from the ground-floor perfume hall? Confession: I hated Poison, in all its iterations. If a teacher wore it, everyone tried to sit at the back of the class. If she got any closer, you'd smell of Poison pretty much permanently till your mother washed your school uniform.

Christine, as always, thanks so much for watching. Never mind about Poison... although I did find your story hilarious. I had plenty of teachers who wore it in the 80s. Paris and LouLou were popular too. I believe St Giles went into the London Selfridges store on Saturday; until then, I think they'd been online only. And please do let me know what you make of Yael!

Finally got to sniff St. Giles in Selfridges, and I too fell for The Tycoon (to my chagrin) closely followed by The Mechanic. The only one that didn't hit the mark for me was The Stylist. Good range. That Poison thing...the dates tell me I'm maligning it. I think my teachers must have been power-spraying Charlie. Or possibly Youth Dew. Poison was definitely the juice of choice of a woman who went to a mother-and-baby group I was in - if she held your offspring for any length of time, you had to go home pushing the buggy downwind, and sometimes there was no amount of baby shampoo that stopped your infant from smelling as if you'd parked her in a brothel for the afternoon. Mind you, I scented everyone else's kids with Mystere de Rochas, which their mothers probably spent all evening scrubbing away. While drenched in Safari.
@Persolaise6 жыл бұрын
This is absolutely hilarious :-) Mothers washing babies to get rid of someone else's smell! Different times, eh? Safari, Mystere, Poison... those compositions took no prisoners :-D And I'm so pleased you found St Giles. Yes, a welcome brand, isn't it :-)

+Christine P You made me laugh hard Christine! I was in an access course to go into uni in Brazil in the in the 80s. It was summer and super hot and humid the woman who sat right behind me got the newly released Poison from her better half and would spray it abundantly every morning and no matter how much everyone (and especially me) protested, her attitude was it's my damn right to wear whatever smell bomb I want and too bad if you lot get a headache, nausea and hate me! IMO all the flankers of Poison are very tame compared to the original 80s powerhouse. They're very sweet and girly.

I remember trying Russian Tea at Indigo in Cleveland, fresh, smoky black tea with a hint of burn. Definitely not photorealistic, but the mint is a nice flourish. I can't remember now how much tea was emphasized. I like tea, but usually stick to Bvlgaris (The Vert, pour Homme Extreme) for green tea, Black for an abstract black tea note. A popular (and nice) scent marketed to men - Gucci Pour Homme II, hints at black tea together with touches of cinnamon and violet leaf. Philtre Ceylan by Atelier (a brand that doesn't usually click with me) is a nice study on sweet black tea, a pleasurable and comforting indulgence on some autumn days. Thanks for the Annick Goutal tip. I am always horrified by the blasphemy of tea bags, and the casual indifference of consumers. It's always the tea dust that makes its way into those tea bags. Never a good idea to compromise on tea (bags) and coffee (instant).

Ani S Thanks very much indeed for watching. And yes, don’t get me started on tea bags 😂 I’m glad you mentioned the Gucci: I got through several bottles of that when it came out... but sadly, I didn’t hang on to any.

Thanks so much for watching and taking the time to write. I'm not sure exactly what time stamps are, but in the video description, I have included 'time links' to the specific segments when the main perfumes are covered. I hope this helps :-)

London is my favourite of the Gallivant line. Tel Aviv is a bit of meh for me. Looking forward to trying Berlin and Amsterdam! Poison is a tricky one. I only smelled the current formulation and think it is a magnificent piece of work. But after 5 minutes on a blotter, I would feel nauseated by it and put it away and later want to smell it again until I’m dizzy again, and repeat the process till no trace of smell is left on the blotter. I would love to have a bottle but would never wear. Hummm...
@Persolaise6 жыл бұрын
Iris, thanks for watching. Maybe you should try wearing Poison one day. Just a tiny little dab...? ;-)

This is freaking me out, I swear that when you sprayed the Dior I could smell Poison, this is spooky. Anyway, I've got to ask you this, what do you do with all those fragrances after you finish? do you send them back? If not you could open a shop.

Thanks for watching... and yes, that's the power of Poison for you :-D Most of my bottles end up being pinched by friends and relatives. The rest enter the Persolaise Personal Collection :-)

Any tips on buying vintage Poison or Midnight Poison?
@Persolaise6 жыл бұрын
Oh dear, I wish I could help. I think the only thing to do is trawl through the internet... or go on a trip to Japan! Their flea markets have some amazing vintage scents.

Ah, ok, sorry, I hadn’t realised. I’m not the best person to ask about this. But I’d suggest doing a search on Perfume Shrine because the editor, Elena, often publishes articles on older bottles. One thing’s for sure though: if you find a bottle claiming to be Esprit De Parfum, you know it’s going to be the good stuff 😊 And thanks so much for watching.
