to put it into perspective: your first mission in the game is to launch a WMD Biological weapon into the stratosphere, and that only SLOWS DOWN the tyranids for 2 days. Tyranids invade and eat all the biomass on the planet (Turning them into dead husks)and use that to evolve into more beastly monsters. So we launched it to kill some of the tyranids, but they evolve so fast that a biological weapon of that scale only was able to give the imperium some breathing room. It's like if Xenomorphs evolved as fast as Viruses do. Also, those skeletons: So during the dark age of technology, there was a big AI rebellion. Since then, AI has been outlawed. To deal with this, people in 40k are repurposed (Lobotomized and receive surgeries) to BE the computers.

Some lore tidbits for the game: The protagonist Titus has been assigned to the Deathwatch as punishment. There are two ways a Space Marine can be put in the Deathwatch: chosen as a representative of their Chapter - a great honor - or forced into it when their Chapter decides they don't want them, but their sins are not grave enough for execution. In Space Marine 1, Titus did a lot of insane shit and was forced into Deathwatch to see if his insane shit wasn't because he was evil, and that's dishonorable enough to want to hide it. Skull Space Marines are Chaplains, basically counselors and watchers of their Space Marine brothers. There are skulls everywhere because 1. that's cool and 2. in Warhammer AI is outlawed, so to be safe, almost all mechanisms are basically lobotomized humans forced to do one thing, like open the doors or filter air. Computing runs on meat, basically. Tyrannids are basically hungry bugs from another galaxy that want to eat everything. They adapt on the fly and are basically unstoppable, evolving as needed to counter what's thrown at them. Blue marines - Ultramarines - have a bone to pick with them because an invasion almost destroyed their home planet.

So about the tyrannids, they don’t terraform planets. If anything, they do the opposite of terraforming. The tyrannids are a species of alien that has taken evolution to the extremes. They can evolve at explosive rates by either consuming the DNA of different species or, if their invasion is meeting resistance of some kind, by self mutating to better meet that resistance. These mutations are also shared with every tyrannid bio form in the fleet. So let’s say the tyrannids are getting chewed up by lazgun fire: in response, the norn Queen will start birthing tyrannid bio forms with armor more resilient to lazgun fire. The tyrannids travel in fleets called hive fleets drifting from system to system in search of planets containing life. When they do find a life bearing planet, they invade and kill all flora and fauna, and process them down to pure biomass. They’ll then bring all the biomass of the planet to collection pools where the hive fleet’s ships send down capillary towers to suck up all of the biomass. At this point, all tyrannid bio forms will start to throw themselves into the collection pools so that their biomass can return to the hive fleet. The hive fleet will take everything a planet has to offer; they drain the oceans, consume all the flora and fauna, and they even take the atmosphere as well. When the tyrannids are done with a planet, they leave nothing but a barren rock devoid of all life and resources. Also I don’t know everything there is to know about the lore of 40k, so please feel free to correct me if anything I said is incorrect
@blightedworld136225 күн бұрын
They also devour all minerals in the planet with some bioforms even dedicated to tunneling deep down to set of volcanic eruptions to unearth more minerals for them to do so. So the planets they attack are stripped of absolutely everything. All that remains is a worthless rock. I do believe however that the eating of minerals was not present during the initial Tyranid invasions but I am unsure on that area.

53:21 The fantasy theme (the one you fight giant rats) is called Warhammer Fantasy, and has medieval themes and fantastical creatures (giants, dragons, dwarfs, elves, etc). Warhammer 40k is the science fiction theme, with more of a focus on aliens as well as daemons. Different settings, but Chaos/Warp is in both, daemons are in both, everyone is trying to kill you in both. Warhammer 30k, also called Horus Heresy, is the prequel to what you are experiencing right now.

Well the big difference is how they operate at the strategic scale. Tyranids don't do permanent colonies or hives. They're a galactic-scale locust swarm. They temporarily terraform planets as a way to efficiently gather up all the various nutrients and beneficial elements in the soil, then harvest all the biomass created from that and in the end even gather up the water and atmosphere of the planet. And then they move on leaving behind a dead, barren rock.
@HienNguyen-cs1mdАй бұрын
@@magni5648 I mean they are called the HIVE FLEET. So the ship itself is kinda their base. Each singular ship capable of producing billions of creatures and many more as long as the biomass keep coming.
@dagonofthedepthsАй бұрын
Sight correction. Tyranids don't terraform and settle planets, they completely consume them and turn the biomass into more Tyranids. When the Tyranids are done not a single micro is left on the planet. Kind of the existential terror threat in 40k. Well 1 of them.....40k has a few of those. The Black Sheild thing, the group Titus starts in is the Deathwatch. It's kind of like an extreme work study program for space marines where they are put into squads made up of a bunch of different chapters. They stay with them for a time before going back to their home chapters with new knowledge and experiences. It's an honor to be chosen as you are kind of representing your chapter, so they tend to only send skilled marines. But some Deathwatch members disown their home chapter, staying as a permeant member of the Deathwatch. That's either done because of some dishonor they suffered, or they hate their home chapter for some reason. Those people are called Black Sheilds.

And in certain missions where you know enemies will drop pod down from, it's even funnier cause they spawn out of the meatball and then just get removed from existence when you detonate the M-Bomb.

Medieval Warhammer is not Warhammer 30000. It's Warhammer Fantasy Battle a.k.a. Warhammer: The Old Times. Actual Warhammer 30000 is also known as Horus Heresy. The small flying children are called "cherubs" - they are artificially grown husks that get lobotomized to imbue them with a machine spirit. Floating skulls are servoskulls, a helper drone made from remains of a imperial hero. Black Shields are Space Marines that cast out their chapter colours and heraldy, either from the shame they feel for serving in a disgraced chapter, or by making sure they don't bring shame to their chapter. If anything more lore needs to be unvailed, feel free ask - we'll answer to the best of our abilities. The Emperor Protects.

when some asks how long I have been into 40k i always reply with long enough to remember a time when tyranid was correctly pronounced as Tie-ran-ids as in (Tyran)nosaurus rex (shortly after the faction was first released there was an interview of one of the lead designers in the Official Warhammer magazine, White Dwarf, which asked which term was correct and he stated that they wanted to invoke the sense of them being an ancient and powerful beasts just like the Tyrannosaurus rex - the current term is sadly all down to Dawn of War 2 which mispronounced it and not doing their research XD also Tyranids dont terraform per say - they do something much worse, all the odd growths you see is part of a planet wide...… digestive system... and the tyranids attack and consume every scrap of organic material on a planet before throwing themselves into the vast pools of acid of the digestive tract while the hive fleets Norn Queen/literal Mothership that birthed all the other bioships and tyranid lifeforms, enter low orbit to suck up a vast ocean of... soup that was once planets entire ecosystem and every tyranid committed to the attack, the Norn Queen then assesses the DNA found in said soup and uses it to make improvements to her new children as the fleet travels to the next planet to start the cycle again. also, also XD. Deathwatch is a faction made up from space marines of all chapters and focus on hunting down alien threats - Blackshields are members of the Deathwatch which for whatever reason give up their own chapter and instead have a blank black shoulder guard (instead of their chapters symbol and colour) this gives said marines a clean slate as it were but it only done in the most dire of cases as its seen as the ultimate disrespect to cover or deface your chapters colors/symbol e.g one very old blackshield was a member of one of the space marine chapters that turn traitors in massive civil war that lead to 40k universe become what it is today called The Horus Heresy, he was still Loyal to the imperium and gladly became a blackshield as his chapter had turned its back on its duty etc but every marine would have tried to kill him on sight if they knew his origins.
