The combat in P2 is actually pretty decent once you figure it out, the UI is just terrible at showing what is actually happening. IS is also piss easy once you figure the combat out. I'd prefer if they made a remake with rebalance, combat tutorials and an UI that makes sense. It's basically SMT or FFX style combat that goes on autoplay until you stop it to change commands.

The combo attacks in P2 remind me of Chrono Trigger or Breath of Fire. I think they would have to keep this system in a P2 remake. I would probably switch in P5's method of gaining Personas, since it is a much more streamlined version of the same concept (negotiate to gain Personas). Plus, smooshing personas together to make new ones is more fun than collecting cards.

This game will be dificult for P3/P4 fans and they'll think the graphics are outdaded (It is a old game), but I might say the story is probably one of the best (if not the best, it depends on my mood because I really liked P3 story as well) of the series. Also, the party settings are vastly superior compared to the newer games, I think it's to balance the random encounters (which can be solved by using itens and a skill)

Don't try to say what Persona 3/4 fans will think about the game. We aren't graphics hounds. Don't say we are. I started with 3/4 and to be honest, I think P2 is ten times better than both of the new ones combined. P2 wasn't harder for me, I actually think that its easy setting can be comparable to the normal setting on the new games. Plus, considering the fact that SLinks aren't a thing in the classic games, the game takes a bigger focus on fighting and story, and SLinks aren't there to distract you. Thank you.

probably with alot of people, the graphics dont bother me. However the outdated mechanics do, the battle system is boring as all hell, grinding for tarot cards is tedious ect. They should have switched to a post nocturne (weakness hit = more turns) system, also the damage output for the enemies is downright embarrassing (though that might just be the psp version). Selling this which is barely more than a 10$ ps one classic for 40$ at launch is down right terrible. though if u find it on sale for 10$ (which happens often) its worth it for the story ive found (though im not too far)

This is somehow foreshadowing Persona 5, both of these games are related in terms of Masks, your pose when you summoner your persona as if the evil is being sucked out from your bad and manifesting into the persona, and lets not forget about the chains, those damn chains, loads of scenes in the opening that reminded me of Persona 5. Heck, even the song "Back to the good old days" it was as if Atlus foresworn that people wouldn't be into Persona 1 and 2 all that much in comparison, and now "Back to the good old days" with a bunch of elements, and even the shadows in the streets like that, and brought them to persona 5 as the spiritual successor to Persona 1 and 2. Maybe Persona 6 will have more elements from the 1st persona if anything.

Man looking into Persona 2 was so worth it. The intro in my opinion is one of the best besides the one in P5 (in my opinion, don't throw a fit if you disagree). The characters are also really cool which I wasn't really expecting. If only the other games had a more complex and dark-ish story like this one. Persona 3 was okay with its story, Persona 4 just felt too upbeat (I mean granted the "finding the truth" theme may not be the darkest of the bunch but seriously? It was just too much), and Persona 5 also wasn't as dark as I thought it would be but it's better than the 4th game.

For those of you who really want an idea on how the Persona series runs out, think of it like this: Persona became it's own series after 2, starting at 3. 2 had Personas but it's significantly different, so just think of it as part of the Shin Megami Tensei main series where Nocturne is from.

Persona 1 and 2 are the same type of gameplay than 3 and 4 This game has a dark feeling to it and I have both Personas for PSP and PS Vita and PS2 but i like 3 and 4 gameplay type better than 1 and 2 because its easy to grab a persona and fuse them with it and p1 and 2 you have to get on their terms in order to be friendly with them.

@falsepride22 Innocent Sin is the original story, Eternal Punishment is like the alternate reality of the first game. From what I remember, in the ending of Eternal Punishment, it is revealed that Maya (the lead female character) died in Innocent Sin. The group made a deal with Philemon to create a new reality where Maya would live in exchange for their memories. But Tatsuya refused to forget, resulting to the story of Eternal Punishment.

I'm a bit late, but it shouldn't kick your ass at all. Totally manageable. Its an early Persona game, but its already far enough removed from SMT that its not overly difficult. Also towards the end, if you're up for a bit of grinding you can get demons that can (and will) 1hit KO everything, including bosses.

Some of it is symbolic, other parts are important bits and pieces of the game's story made vague for the sake of the opening (masks, people with masks, Joker burning into flames with Tetsuya pulling one off himself). Maya being chained is important, Tetsuya's body passing through the doors with their Personas on it is important (especially passing Lisa/Maya and turning back).

they just released today in gamespot a few videos of gameplay for this game. They feature the voices for Tatsuya, Yukino, the distorted voice of the Joker and a grunt from Lisa: Ha!. Yukino has the same voice actress she had in Persona 1 PSP. Tatsuya has an odd voice when he said close your eyes in the Imitation contact. The Joker(Jun)'s distorted voice sounded like a mixture of man and women's voice. Lisa's sounded like Laura Bailey, Melissa Fahn or Stephanie Sheh.

The Blue Butterfly at the beginning? If so it's pretty simple the master of the Velvet Room Philemon takes the form of a blue butterfly in the real world. It's not really that deep, it's just "ey you're invited to the velvet room". Igor is just one of his many assistants, it won't make that much sense since in the first two games Philemon appears as a human to the characters.

P2 was released in Japan as a Dualogy to create a direct sequel to P1. P1 did not receive well in America, so it being a 2 part game that you had to buy both parts seperately (IS and EP) likely would not sell well. They only released P2EP. P3 was released as a single game on the PS2 and did well, so they decided to release P2IS in America on the PSP as a result. Japan keeps to themselves with JRPGs a lot. FF is another example, with IV being II and VI being III in Japan and America respectively.

That would be a shame. I would love to see what happens in the story that leads to Lisa jumping onto a giant face and fish turning into butterflies. Or such striking visuals as the Joker next to the tree on the frozen lake at 1:30, the plant dropping into the water, or Tatsuya's transformation from 1:31 to 1:37. This intro is literally the most beautiful creation that has come from the Persona team. Since it is the newest animated intro they've created, I hope P5 looks just like this.

I don't know about that, I think it does. To me, all of the Persona games have a different feeling from the others, and the feeling I get from P4 has always been a vibrant, happy one. Even if it revolves around a murder case, the happy moments of P4 far outweigh the dark and depressing ones. Example: Yosuke gets hit in the nads twice in the first 30 minutes of the game. If that doesn't warrant him dancing in a trash can, I don't know what does.

P4 revolves around a serious subject such as murders, with a smile, if that doesnt sound twisted to you then i dont know what does. I mean i get how people would think its not a dark game compared to previous smt games but considering the subject matter(kids dying, people having messiah complexes, sociopaths/psychopaths) id say its still a dark enough game.

Well there was an overhaul here and there. The overall Interface was streamlined, and Fusion spells being Cataloged as they were was a huge addition. But, like earlier, I guess Atlus couldn't, or didn't feel like, doing something about. Still all in all it's a good game. Personally my favorite.

Sounds good, Nocturne didn't have any voice acting either and that game was also incredible, so I'm not too worried about that aspect. I'm thinking about picking up the Devil Summoner 2 special edition with the Jack Frost looking plushie lol. I normally don't go for those sorta things but it's not much more than the regular game and the toy looks really cool. I heard you don't need to play the first to understand the second but if i really enjoy the second one I'll definitely pick up the first.

@Reaper00140 Thank you for the response i actually picked up Persona 3 too have a go and i don't regret it's one of the best games i've played so far this year despite being several years old :) NYX is kicking my ass but i'll beat him eventually :) if anything i'm now more excited for P4 i hope the stories as good as P3

@inv3rsedance It's sort of between the playstyle of P1 and P3/4. No more first-person dungeons as in P1, but it's still not the school-day structure of P3/4. The battle system of P1 pulls more heavily from the old SMT games; P2 doesn't have you input all your commands at the start of a "round" like in P1 unless you set it to. The focus isn't on knocking enemies down with weaknesses like in P3/4. Instead, players can change personae and combine their persona abilities to form powerful combo moves
