this song really fits an ad adachi fight. if you really think about it, and I think the even say this in the game or the anime. if Yu made one wrong turn, he could've ended up just like him. I always felt so attached to adachi (due to having P4G first and maxing out his Social link first try) I can relate to him so well. hating the world. wanting to create a new one, even if it's all a lie, anything to feel better or to feel like I belonged. wanting to unleash my rage unto the world for being so cruel, I could go on and on. and once I figured our he was the culprit I immediately saddened. even when he started to give he all time famous speeches to the investigation team, like them, I couldn't really argue back. everything adachi said was true and the only thing the team had was morals as an excuse. and when I finally beat him the extra dialog really hit me hard. I mean maybe after the events of Arena Ultimax he might change.

Same tho. His character is even basically how I got into Persona 4. My acquaintance was talking bout Shin Megami Tensei and Persona and how he loves all of them except 4 because it's too jolly compared to the others and the culprit is easy to guess. So, like a rebel, I googled Persona 4 and naturally went "Oh, this character in the suit looks interesting!" and then I watched the gameplay. And the social link (I actually watched only 2 social links - Maria's and Adachi's). And the other endings. And the Arena Ultimax. It was all very heartbreaking because the character that got me into the game was the culprit. So I'm like "Thx game, my only luck is that my heart is already dead, else it would have stopped beating on the spot." It's also really fucking terrifying how many similarities between him and me I've noticed. It started off as when I went "Oh yeah, well it's natural for him to be confused that Dojima came to visit him, after all he doesn't believe in the power of friendship!" And then I had a horrible realisation: that's exactly my view on friendship! Then it came downhill. World? Extremely boring. Depression? Could be my second name. Apocalypse? Sounds like fun (Tbh dying in apocalypse would be a nice bonus). I'd say I'm also a pessimist, even though people call me naive for thinking humans are naturally good. It's just that the circumstances some of us have to live in may chain the good in us and a terrible darkness overpowers us, or it makes the good seem non-existent, and we decide that if there's none in us, we might as well act evil (even though the term is subjective). You see? Humanity and the world is beautiful, but it's also cruel. It's disgusting but it's wonderful. It's fueled by hatred but also filled with love. Our world is a mix of beauty and ugliness and of lies and the truth. And perhaps that's how it's meant to be. Perhaps lies may sometimes be useful and evil might sometimes be good. From a philosophical standpoint absolutely. Doesn’t change that he killed two women just because he could, and was directly responsible for everyone else being thrown into the TV. One of the most noticeable traits of sociopathic behavior is that they’re charismatic and convincing. Adachi fundamentally is a sociopath. If he hadn’t killed just for the sake of killing then not only would the sagiris have consumed the world unopposed (no murder investigation, no investigation team) but also would have fulfilled his goals.

What if this theme was featured in a heated face-off between Yu and Adachi in Ultimax instead of in P4 Golden Animation? First of all, it needs to be established that Adachi is Ying, while Yu is Yang, represented by the two opposing persons arguing in the song (Lotus Juice). However, there could have been a third person who represented Taiji, i.e. the harmony between Ying and Yang, or someone who is equally and harmoniously sympathetic to both sides, represented the part sung by Hirata. In Ultimax, Yu and Adachi could have been at each other like before, but this time, there is a third person who is trying to arbitrate between them in order to stop their fighting and try to establish a mutual understanding or at least a truce between them, so they can both focus on the more pressing matter at hand (the Red Fog and Sho). Among all the characters in Ultimax, there is only one character who is perfectly suited for such a task: Aigis. If Adachi is Ying and Yu is Yang, then Aigis is Taiji, the perfect balance between the two. Like Yu and Adachi, Aigis is also a wielder of the Fool and is equally proficient as the former with the Wild Card, so she can easily hold her own against them both in a show of strength. But aside from being just as powerful as they are, what exactly makes Aigis the perfect arbitrator between Yu and Adachi? The biggest source of contention for both Yu and Adachi is their past life experiences. Yu has it well: lots of friends who truly care about him, a loving home and life full of meaning. Meanwhile, Adachi was the opposite: he experienced mostly despair, rejection and emptiness throughout his life. Yu lived a life of happiness (Yang) while Adachi lived a life of anguish (Ying), which the latter deeply resents. However, unlike the two of them, Aigis lived a life of both (Taiji). She is also blessed with everything that Yu has, yet she also underwent (or is undergoing) through almost as much anguish as Adachi did, i.e. the immense grief of losing a friend as she did with Makoto and Shinji, coming to terms with fact she is not and will never be truly human unlike those she holds dear, dealing with the painful possibility that she might have to destroy Labrys, her only remaining sister, with her own hands during the events in Arena, etc. Aigis can sympathize with Adachi with all the suffering he went through, yet like Yu she knows very well the true value of forming bonds and the strength they can provide, thus she isn't very likely to take sides between either of them because she knows both are right in their own way, making her a perfect mediator between them. The fight could go like this: Yu, Adachi and Aigis are isolated from the rest of the cast somewhere in the Red Fog, possibly an attempt by either Minazuki or Kagutsuchi to simultaneously weaken the three biggest threats to their schemes in one fell swoop. Hostilities soon begin to flare between Yu and Adachi while Aigis tries her best to diffuse the situation, but to no avail as the hostilities between the two soon become physical. Using the progression of the song, Yu and Adachi start to argue their views as they fight in the beginning (Lotus Juice, from "No no no no" to "More like thoughtless"). A little while later, Aigis, who has listened to both sides of their argument, desperately tries to reason with them and get them to understand the other's point of view (Hirata, first chorus) while her Personas defend her from the chaos caused by the onslaught. Unfortunately they ignore and/or reject Aigis' words and continue clashing even more violently than before, even resorting to attacking her as she tries to further reason with them (Lotus Juice and Hirata, from "No words can mean anything" to "Who knows?"). At this point, Aigis either realizes that mere words will not get through to either of them and the only way she can get her point across is by force, or she finally loses her temper and also gives in to her rage. Either way, she unleashes Orgia Mode and she begins to relentlessly attack both Yu and Adachi. Her Personas, also based on the bonds she shares with the Shadow Operatives like how Yu's Personas are based with those of the Investigation Team, also begin to ferociously attack Yu's Personas and Magatsu-Izanagi instead of just defending Aigis. By this part until the end of the song, only Hirata is left singing, which means Aigis has begun to one-sidedly overwhelm and dominate both Yu and Adachi. Like in the animation, the last Personas Yu summoned before reverting to Izanagi were Kohryu and Sraosha, which represent his bonds with his guardian Dojima and his "sister", Nanako. In response, Aigis also does the same by summoning Alilat and Norn*, the Personas who represent her bonds with her own guardian and her "sister", namely Mitsuru and Labrys. With both of them finally realizing how much of a threat Aigis poses to both of them and that finally means business, they both have Kohryu and Magatsu-Izanagi charge at Alilat, but the mother goddess easily repels their attacks with a well-timed Makarakarn before freezing them with Mabufudyne. Magatsu-Izanagi breaks free from the ice after much struggle and Yu calls back a heavily damaged Kohryu and summons Sraosha in its place while Aigis summons Norn. Aigis' Norn is shown to be far more powerful than Yu's own Norn (which represents his bond with Naoto), as Magatsu-Izanagi is completely unable to pierce or even just scratch the former's clock glass as it did with the latter. Norn then blows away Magatsu-Izanagi by unleashing a massive Panta Rhei on it before it does the same with Yu's Sraosha. Sraosha however, barely counters with Megidolaon, and clash of both moves causes a huge shockwave that blows away all three combatants, who all then revert to using their original Personas. However, like in the animation, all three Personas in the brawl then deal a lethal blow to each other: Izanagi and Magatsu-Izanagi impale each other like in the P4G animation, but Pallas Athena is caught between them, splitting her in half. However, she also manages to simultaneously decapitate both brothers in the process like what Izanagi did to Magatsu-Izanagi in the original P4 animation. All three dismembered Personas fade, and Aigis, Yu and Adachi are all significantly injured as a result, with Aigis apparently incapacitated and her Orgia Mode disabled. Yu and Adachi, both still in a fit of rage, also then resort into a fist fight like in P4G, with Yu later gaining the advantage. However, Aigis suddenly attacks them again and overwhelms them both for the last time. With neither the strength nor the will to fight, both Yu and Adachi calm down and concede defeat to an equally exhausted Aigis, and they finally listen to what she has to say. *Norn makes sense as the Persona representing the bond between Aigis and Labrys. Like Norn, Labrys is of the Fortune Arcana, and it is also the ultimate Fortune Arcana Persona for both Aigis and Yu. Plus, Norn is a Persona that can be formed only with the fusion of the three Moirae sisters, which perfectly fits with the idea of Aigis and Labrys being sisters. Alilat meanwhile would best represent Aigis' bond with Mitsuru, namely of the Empress Arcana, which differs from Makoto, Yu and Ren who represent their own bonds with the Empress as either Mother Harlot (Makoto and Mitsuru, Ren and Haru) or Isis (Yu and Margaret). Both Personas' depictions exude the aura of strong women well as the sensuality of the Empress, representing the possibility or presence of romantic attraction of these bonds. Alilat meanwhile is entirely depicted as a Mother goddess, which fits perfectly with Aigis' relationship with Mitsuru as purely of that a motherly figure and guardian with no hint of romance or sexuality present.

The lyrics to this song read to me like the whole thing is one big song of pity for Adachi. Yu and Adachi locking horns so furiously with each other, while the main lyrics ultimately lament how Adachi became who he is because he had no one to trust. He really could have been the lovable goofball he pretended to be if he had been given a reason to care for anything or anyone. A reason he never got because he worked his ass off for the promise of prosperity that was never fulfilled. Honestly, I think that really encapsulates how it feels when I see characters like Adachi. Characters with lovable facades, and horrible cores. Maybe it's in our nature to believe that the facades are what could have been, and that's why such two-faced characters are so memorable?

The choruses in this song is so goddamn good, P4 in general had a bunch of songs with extremely catchy melodies. Plus it kinda makes you feel for Adachi more than you did before. He puts on this show of being completely sick of everything, and for the most part he is, but there's a part in there lost in the "starless/darkest night" as the song puts it.

If Yu’s arrival to Inaba was delayed by a month or so Adachi would have maxed 2 social links; Nanako and Dojima. Giving him 3 personas in all. Kohryu (Dojima), Sraosha (Nanako), and Magatsu-Izanagi (possibly purified to become Izanagi due to developing bonds). He was already slightly stronger than Yu with just Magatsu Izanagi. Think about fighting him when he had 3 personas all at the same level.

I dont think its ever said that Adachi is a wild card, he was just given his persona directly by Izanami. We see another wild card with no social links. They have two right off the bat, so if Adachi was in fact a wild card, he'd theoretically already have two as well.
