What a GREAT talk! I am a recruiter that interviews candidates daily and I admire how much you helped "Sam." So many hiring managers don't want to take the time to mentor the junior people. Just as you said, they are the leaders of tomorrow! And I am sure there is at least one person who mentored us.

"Why should I go above and beyond when the people I work for do not?" - This is a valid question on behalf of the employees. However, it is no excuse. Personal power must be sought after if one's ambitions are in fact career success. Quiet Quitting is a severe lack of personal power and your knowledge base must be abysmal or mental health is suffering outside the "normal range". Thank you for differentiating positional and personal power, great way to put it! Very smooth and informative talk Lorraine, good work!

Great job explaining the practical demonstration of personal power over positional power Lorraine. I appreciated your real-life stories and modeling the way to invest in others, even when that comes at a risk.

really enjoyed this talk, loved how the story circled back to Sam and Sarah. BTW - what happened to Sarah really was mean. Lots of stuff covered here, power, empathy, quiet quitting, the great resignation etc... some part of this talk, if not all of it, will resonate with YOU

While this was a great talk, the bigger issue is that publicly traded companies prioritize stock holders over employees. There is zero loyalty and we all now know it. They fire top performers so they can pay new hires less, and annual lay-offs to goose quarterly earnings and EOY are the norm. It barely matters how much empathy you have in that kind of environment.

I agree, it happens all too often 😢 however we can never give up trying 0:06 to do the “right thing”. Thank you so much for leaving this comment. Update ... great article in this months Fortune magazine that speaks specifically to this! The CEO of SalesForce was interviewed and the The headline reads, "Does Empathy suffer in the name of stock holders". worth the read!
