yes! thank you for recommending books that are not "popular." I've seen far too many people recommend the some ones over and over again. Grateful for your insight! definitely running to the book store

You've sold me on The Justice of Kings and I'm bumping it up my TBR list. I have the beautiful editions from Goldsboro with the sprayed edges and I bought them because they did sound like something I would definitely like, but they've also just sat on my shelves for monnnnnthss and your passion about them makes me so much more excited to read them :)

Justice of Kings series knocked it out of the park for me! Five star read and gave me a book hangover at the end because I missed the characters and world so much. One of, if not the best, books I've read this year

I had most of these on my TBR, but those that I didn't I added. Thanks for all the great recommends! My recommend to you is one that I'm not even finished with yet, but it's SO MUCH FUN! It's called Heretical Fishing: A Cozy Guide to Annoying the Cults, Outsmarting the Fish, and Alienating Oneself by Haylock Jobson. I'm probably going to binge read the next two of these in the series.

My recommendation is actually an audio drama podcast called The Once and Future Nerd. Sounds like a dnd podcast but it isnt. Its a fully scripted audio play in the vein of Narnia but with the christian allagory stripped off and the plot modernized. Three teenagers, a cheerleader, her jock boyfriend and a nerd get spirited away to a fantasy world. Like Narnia its starts of seemingly simple and innocent but builds up until the characters are involved in a grand conspiracy that threatens the whole country. There are elves, orcs, secret queens and the main three teens are all more layered and complex then their archetypes would suggest. Go listen to it! Its free!

You need to read the Stranger Times. Written by an Irish comedian. I haven’t seen ANYONE talk about this series and I have been laughing so much in these books. Urban/supernatural fantasy set in Manchester UK. Think characters from parks and rec or the office, with weird stuff happening!
@pauieeepau5 ай бұрын
I second The Spear Cuts Through Water. So bizarre and specifically made for me. I also liked The Jasad Heir, let them be enemies! I feel like it has typical plot structure but doesn't lean too hard on tropes though they are present. I saw people complain there isn't enough romance, but I don't mind.

I read A River Enchanted because of you and it was my fave book of last year!! So I definitely need to read more of your recs (:

My under-rated writer rec is definitely Intisar Khanani. She gets a lot of comparisons to Robin McKinley; I think you'd also like her if you like T. Kingfisher or the Mirror Visitor books. She has one finished series (The Dauntless Path) and one in progress (The Sunbolt Chronicles).

My favourite fantasy book is black leopard red wolf by marlon james. It just so so good: The intrigue, the premise, the world-building, the unreliable narration. I am reading the second book in the series and it is as good as the first. I would love it if more people would read that series.

Can I just recommend The Hands of the Emperor by Victoria Goddard!!! It is an incredible cozy high fantasy focused on friendships and she writes such gorgeously descriptive world building that you actually feel like you’re right there with them. It’s adventurous and emotional and if you like questing, I feel like this book has that! I wish more booktubers have read this because it is SEVERELY under-rated :(

Justice of the Kings is on my TBR for next month! Personally, I wish more people would read The First Sister Trilogy by Linden A. Lewis and The Convergence Saga by Cadwell Turnbull (both series I think you'd like because of their layered narratives, multi-POV and genre-blending)

Always enjoy your recommendations. Is there a boycott against Maggie Stiefvater that I don't know about? I admit I am not as immersed in the fantasy world as some, but I find her books beautifully, lyrically written with intriguing premises, and I don't think I've ever seen her come up on a list of fantasy favourites. As well, I quite enjoyed The Beautiful Creatures series and never see any chat about them.
@arleneallen88245 ай бұрын
I looked into the Maggie Stiefvater situation. The author herself is not being boycotted. Her book SHIVER is being banned and removed from shelves by conservatives. I don’t know if they consider it pornography or Satanic because it has werewolves in it. Either way I’m buying it to spite those conservatives and in November I’m voting for the party that doesn’t ban books.

I just DNFed The Ninth Rain this month, at 32% . I was convinced by Elliot Brooks but it ended up not being for me. I think I don't like creatures in my books. Reading it felt like a chore. Also the dialogue was annoying and trying too hard to be funny or witty, which is a pet peeve of mine. I was so disappointed because I had only heard good things.

Others I might see if I can get the audiobook from Libby.
