What theeeee fuck, wasn't expecting this... It's my time to shine again. So, Tavros here is a troll, and they're aliens in the Homestuck universe. These aliens have a caste system based off their blood colors, called the hemospectrum, and Tavros here is a bronze blood, the second lowest before rust. The others in rising order are gold, lime (extinct), olive, jade, teal, blue, indigo, violet, and fuchsia. So, what the crap does this have to do with the music? WELL, the hemospectrum has their own individual music themes! Bronze blood themes almost always have a Spanish, acoustic flair to their music because the ORIGINAL bronze blood, this boy Tavros, had a bit of a Spanish theme to his aesthetic. The other blood color themes are a bit hard to dissect, but I know for sure that gold is chiptune, blue is punk or garage rock, teal songs have harpsichords in them, and purple bloods have...circus music theming. I shit you not. The rest are hard to pinpoint, but I'm pretty sure indigo has a ethereal jazz vibe with a love for pianos, rust sounds orchestral and primitive, jade is also orchestral but more refined, aaaand... Can't really name the rest since the songs in Pesterquest and Friendsim usually aren't original compositions for the game itself. This song in particular, Bronze Rebel, actually came from an album predating the game it's in called ColoUrs and Mayhem, where each main character in the original webcomic, Homestuck, got their own theme, plus some additional bonus songs. However for the trolls, they had two themes, one for their current selves, and the other for their ancestor/descendant counterpart (referred to as a dancestor by the community), and FUNNY ENOUGH, Bronze Rebel is *_NOT_* Tavros' theme at all, but his dancestor, Rufioh, who incited a rebellion on Tavros' world long before he was born. Tavros' theme is called Bronze Page, referencing his class in the game the characters played in the webcomic itself. Homestuck is a very weird piece of media in almost every single way.

nice! i JUST wrote a comment saying a lot of this without reading this first, oops! haha i wouldn't have called "bronze rebel" Ruifioh's theme though, moreso The Summoner, who is not Tavros' dancestor but his ancestor but thats a very very small nitpick.

The variety in Pesterquest's soundtrack can be a little deceptive. While at first it does seem like it has a lot of songs by a lot of different artists, that is because it doesn't really have a dedicated original soundtrack. While there are a bunch of original songs like john, rose, dave, jade, aradia and karkat's themes a LOT of its music is liften from Homestuck itself, or rather its albums. This song is from the album "Colours and Mayhem: Universe A". This album (as well as C&M:Universe B) is compiled from entries to a music contest held for the Homestuck community back in 2011! Now for some backstory on the proper track! This track, "Bronze Rebel", was originally called "If I were like Rufio" by the track's creator and was intended as a theme for Tavros, then renamed to "Bronze Rebel" once the album released to be a theme for Tavros's ancestor "The Summoner" and THEN it was used in Pesterquest as Tavros's theme for the game. Kind of a biggol loopdy loop! I found it really interesting that you were more bewildered by THIS track than "Yeah, it is" to be quite honest. I don't listen to much music that exists outside of game OSTs or doesn't belong to very specific internet niches so PERSONALLY i was under the impression this WAS one of the more traditional music tracks Homestuck had to offer! I guess not! lol Tavros is a really interesting character, he has big dreams, big aspirations, a big inspiration, but life just didnt offer him a fair shake. He is part of a species called "trolls" on the planet Alternia (an alternate universe's equivalent to Earth basically) and from the beggining that society's culture would not accept him, as it is much more prone to casual violence and as he is a "lowblood" (basically in one of the lower societal classes on the planet) he would be especially prone to it. This threat over his head got even worse when he became paralised below the waist (disabled trolls were seen as ueless and ripe for "culling", which basically means execution). And despite all of that and despite his shy personality he was able to dream big, to indulge in his intrests like Fiduspawn and Pupa Pan (alternian pokemon and peter pan, respectivelly). He has this imaginary personification of his self-asteem he calls Rufio, to help him cope with certain things and I find that just great... That's why I think this song has this both big aspirational and determined feeling as well as feeling somber at times. Since despite all of this trolls like him are often reminded by their surroundings that "they dont belong" I skipped over a really big part of his story and the shaping of his character, that being Vriska (another troll, who he is """friends""" with), but the comment would be WAY TOO LONG if i explained what kind of negative influence she had on him, heh. Oh, also, about his theming! All of the main 12 troll characters are assigned what we humans recognise as zodiac signs, his is tauros, so it's pretty expected for there to be cow/bull theming! Fun fact for the road: All main homestuck characters' names were picked from reader suggestions! And despite that a lot of the trolls have really fun etymology in their names related to their signs! Tavros is a troll representative of the Taurus zodiac sign. He is rebellious and dreams to fly despite being wheelchair locked. a hopeless romantic as well. and his design resembles that of a bull. his weapon of choice is also javalin like weapon that he uses via charging with his wheel chair. resembling that of a bull charging with its horns. he is an interesting character who is met with a sad fate due to those around him. rip nepeta. we will all miss you.

Tavros' theme always made me think of Wind Waker's soundtrack, for whatever reason... It'd fit very well in as a battle/boss theme.
