As someone who is from the Midwest, I am completely with Stephen on this one. It makes the week look and feel neater. It also depends on you occupation a bit sometimes, but overall having the weekend be the transition between weeks is lovely. I also have never to my knowledge heard of the week starting on a Monday. "Soorry" Mal. 😅

So I do fully agree with Stephen on the weekends being like bookends. Mal's school giving her agendas with Monday as the beginning of the week makes sense because Monday *is* the beginning of the week - the *school* week, as opposed to the calendar week. If Mal meant the monthly calendar started on Monday, then I'd have questions.

Stephen, as much as I am normally #TeamStephen, Mal is 100% correct. It's crazy to me to start the week on a Sunday, the work week denotes the beginning of the week. But hey, as long as you understand the calendar that's all that matters lol

If memory serves Jon had the same discussion and in conclusion Sunday is the beginning of the week because hump day is the middle of the week aka Wednesday and nobody debates that. At least I'm fairly certain that's how it went.

I agree with Mal. Since we refer to Saturday and Sunday as "The Weekend"(singular) and not "The Weekends" (plural) they are the end od the week and not the ends of the week. This means that the week ends with Sunday and thusly begins with Monday. Or something like that idk

I'm with Mal, Monday is the start of the week. Sunday is still the last day of the current week, so it's not the start of the new one! As far as I know, that's usually the case here in Europe.

my planner starts the week on monday and i prefer it that way for a planner and brain organization but i do think the weekend are like bookends, or like, a sandwich. it just feels wrong to open the week with the meat and potatoes of it all. and having sunday at the start makes it feel even, equal, and not like a weird hanger on to saturday

They aren't both ends. In that case, they would be weekends. Y'know, like bookends. But no, it's a weekend, singular. Monday has always been the start of the week to me, and I'd never previously understood why anyone would say it's Sunday (beside religious reasons at least). I totally get Stephen's argument though, and now I can see it both ways, but I would still agree with Mal. Speaking of 90s comedies, have you both seen Groundhog Day? It's right up there amongst my favourite films of all time.
