You make some very valid points, but in my opinion you really should make it clear at the beginning that this video is a paid promotion by the company your you are recommending. It is a bit deceptive starting the video saying this is your honest and truthful opinion, without also disclosing your getting paid for it.

I disagree that pet insurance is useful, at least for most dogs. For one, if you get your dog on insurance at an older age (past like a year or two) those companies will dig through that dog's medical records attempting to find proof that what you are asking them to cover is pre-existing. Even if it isn't pre-existing, if they can find some way to make it seem it is they'll do it. Let's say you get your dog on insurance as a puppy so that there aren't medical records for them to dig through. Let's say you have 2 dogs and it starts out at say $20 per month, then every year it goes up $5 per pet per month (of course if you utilize the insurance, just like car insurance, your premiums will go up even higher even faster, so $5 is conservative). If your dogs live to be 10 years old that's around $13,000 you've given this insurance company. Even then, the more claims you make as your dog gets older the more the company will likely still start requesting "more medical records" even if they have all the records that exist. They want to deny your claim, insurance is rarely your friend. I think the better decision is to build your credit score, get the lowest fixed interest rate credit card you can find and save it for vet care. In the meantime, while they're younger and you're not likely needing much more than annual visits, start an emergency fund just for the pets. I would bet that would get you ahead in 99% of situations versus blinding paying for pet insurance.

My 5 year old dog suddenly became very listless and was having trouble breathing. Took her to the Emergency Vet and after testing found she had cancer that had metastasized to her lung. Rather than put her through two horrific surgeries, chemotherapy and radiation, we let her go. The cost for diagnosis, oxygen, pain meds, X-ray and ultrasound came to around $7,500. Thank goodness we had pet insurance.

@johnwilkes8847
@johnwilkes8847 2 жыл бұрын
@@richardeckard3825 It depends. They usually provide you with a pamphlet showing everything that they'll cover. Usually exclusions include elective surgeries or holistic treatments, or treatments for things like dog fighting, or from habitual behaviors IE your dog always breaks teeth bc they always chew on rocks. My plan does not cover normal check ups or vaccines. It does cover unexpected vet visits due to injury/illness, etc. My plan is setup so I pay the first $200 (deductible) and then they cover 90% of all expenses after that. I was able to choose what deductible and how much I wanted them to cover after the deductible. There is a wellness plan you can add on, I honestly dont remember the details too well, but IIRC if you have records of regular vaccines, checkups, etc. then they reward you by lowering your deductible or something like that.

Emergency funds are much more cost effective than insurance. Insurance companies are set up to make a profit off of you. Emergency funds are not for profit and therefore cheaper. Insurance has deductibles, only covers a percent the costs, and does not cover many things. Emergency funds cover everything and offer peace of mind that insurance does not provide.

Well, you can put it this way as well. Even if you DON'T need the insurance money for your own pet, it will go toward another animal that does. For the peace of mind, having your animal on adventures and even just outside, $50 or even $100bucks a month seems decent. In case of that ONE bill, the ONE problem that costs you $5000 dollars. PLUS with pet insurance, vets go the full mile on tests and procedures. You don't have to think and skimp out on what to do and not to do.

I have two cats, both are covered by Trupanion, and are in great health. One of them hurt himself running around. He was whimpering, so I took him to the emergency animal hospital. Nothing wrong with him. Trupanion won't tell me what they are doing with my claim. It's been over a month. I've called multiple times. The claim is in review. Meanwhile, the follow up appointment turned up nothing. Absolutely fine. I mentioned Trupanion and the vet said that they're difficult to work with. The receptionist rolled her eyes. It looks like Trupanion has a negative reputation in the vet tech community. I'm tired of calling Trupanion and not getting answers. I'm going to cancel at the end of this month. Just put aside $50 each month for pet care and it'll work out cheaper and better for you and the companions. I've paid them thousands. Learn from my mistakes.

My concern is the cost not only for the care, but what if your insurance company denies your claim after you've been paying them monthly fees for years? They could have been wonderful for the first decade or more and suddenly a change in policy and 'claim denied' becomes commonplace. This is what is stopping me from getting pet insurance.
@RYTHMICRIOT
@RYTHMICRIOT Жыл бұрын
Not to mention, most pet insurance policies are structured as a "reimbursement" plan. Meaning you must shell out the potential thousands of dollars up front and then deal with the insurance company to get what you can back. Make no mistake, the business model of these insurance companies is to keep as much of the money you pay them as possible.

I have trupanion. My cat got caught in a house fire, we spent 1000 and my deductable is 500 because of the way they processed it nothing was covered. Now my cat has tooth disease and it is going to cost 1500. The thing is I have had his teeth cleaned in the past and a couple of teeth were pulled. He was not diagnosed with any dental problems at that time. However I am pretty sure that they are going to use this as a reason to deny coverage. We have been with them for years and sad to say I dont think it is worth it. I really had high hopes for this company but so far it has done nothing but cost me money.

Look at reviews from those that are NOT getting paid to advertise and you will see scam after scam on paying clients that trusted them. It is an embarrassment to the vet profession. OMG, I’m crying so hard after Closing my eyes while hearing your words about if we were ever in a situation we needed to make a choice on how much we would spend on vet bills to save our pet. I unfortunately never got a pet insurance for my dog. When he was A little over a year old he was mauled by a pitbull. Luckily the owner of the pitbull paid $1000 for his treatment. When he was 4 years old he swallowed a pair of underwear. I paid $4000 to save him. Then again right before his 8th birthday he got very sick with acute pancreatitis and diabetes. 😢 my family all helped to chip in to keep him alive. We spent at least $5000 to try to save him. After 4 days of no food I had to make the terrible decision to put him down. I could do a longer torture him anymore. That was what I feel like I did. I didn’t know how terrible feeding table scraps was. I only wish I would have been more educated and how to take care of my fur baby. The money part means nothing only to share that insurance is so worth it. The part that still kills me is that 9 months later I’m still so angry with myself because of my lack of knowledge and care of my sweet dog. II totally am responsible for the pain and suffering my dog went through. I don’t think I could ever forgive myself. I can’t even think about him without having a panic with unstoppable crying. The past nine months have been difficult to say the least. However the void in my life without a pet is lonely. I am committed to raising my next puppy with better understanding. So thank you Rachel for giving me the courage to get my dicks for a baby I am committed to raising my next puppy with better understanding. 95% of pet owners cannot afford $2000-10k and more for procedures/surgeries and they have only one option to put their pet down to sleep. Vet prices are way too big and insurance is not so good either because they do everything what they can to avoid paying for your dog when it needs to be paid.

Great advice! I learned the hard way. I adopted two kittens and thought they're young I don't need insurance yet, but then they started having a chronic health issue early on and it was too late as it was now preexisting. I spent so much money over the years due to their health issue. When I adopted my rescue dog the first thing I did was sign her up for insurance. I haven't had to use it in the 5 years I've had her, but it gives me great comfort knowing we have it if something does go wrong.

$203 a month plus a $700 x 2 =$1400 deductible for 2 - 1 year old dogs. Man this sucks! I live pay check to paycheck. I don’t even have health insurance myself. My dogs means so much to me but I literally can’t afford that. I will just have to walk the streets for money if my boys get sick(and I will for them) because damn I can’t afford that payment!! I feed them fully raw 80/10/5/5 & that’s up to $900 a month thanks to inflation. I’ve stressed about pet insurance so much. There is not much info on the Trupanion site. So many questions & no answers. 1) does the monthly payment go up annually? 2) does the pet insurance cover or help with regular vet visits, monthly pet meds such as flea, tick & heartworm? 3) is there a list of vets that accept this insurance? I want to see if my regular vet accepts Trupanion. 4) what else specifically if anything does the pet insurance cover besides emergencies? 5) If my pet never gets sick or has an emergency & I’m paying for years & years do I get a penny of that money back?

I think if you can't afford pet insurance, it would be a good idea to just put aside what you can each month as emergency pet fund. Premium gets adjusted every year depending on your location and your pet's age. It will go up annually, usually not by a lot if your pet is young. Pet insurance isn't like human insurance, you still pay vet bills up front, then you get reimbursed by pet insurance after you filed a claim. There's no such thing as whether a vet accept certain insurance. Insurance coverage depends on the company, you'll have to do your own research to find the one most suitable for you. I have HealthyPaws and personally went for $500 deductible to save on my premium. My coverage is only for illness, emergencies and accidents, does not cover regular vet check up or dental. And just like any other health insurances, you don't get your money back just because you haven't used it. They wouldn't be able to make money or provide coverage then if that's the case. Trupanion is on the more expensive side. Maybe check out Nationwide and ASPCA. I think they both have pretty good coverage and lower rates.

Pet costs are astronomical. I think for me, when my cat was severally, it was the worst feeling of having to make a decision based on money rather than on the health of my pet. I would disagree wholeheartedly with your review given that pet insurance is not regulated well and there is little recourse for dishonest medical review process of claims, such as a lawsuit, although some do go that far. Pet insurance is known to deny anything for any symptom at any time with the "pre-exisitng" wording they have in the contracts on purpose. (READ YOUR CONTRACT before signing up) I have given it the test myself with my own dog and found those hundreds of poor reviews from clients to be valid and therefore cancelled my insurance. Look at reviews from those folks that are NOT getting paid to advertise and you will see scam after scam on paying clients that had real claims and trusted this company. The underwriting and review of claims process is a complete SHAM as it is not performed by those that have degrees to understand prescriptions, diagnosis, treatments, the practice of medicine, disease, path processes, labs, imaging or pharmacokinetics/dynamics. It is a true embarrassment to the vet profession. In many cases, an outright accident would be the more secure way to have a claim approved for the obvious reason-that the insurance company cannot claim it is pre-existing. (But it may still may be an exclusion! Such as IVDD or a cruciate ligament tear! Read the contract.) I am licensed to practice medicine and I know medicine better than any of the people answering the phone at Trupanion. Therefore I warn the public and declare the above with sadness (I love animals!)- but in my experience this insurance company has done wrong. I have turned this company into the BBB and will continue to get the word out about the dishonesty I experienced. I hope insurance companies will do the right thing eventually in order that pets can be covered properly to receive good medical care and those that are animal "parents" are not stolen from.

I’ve heard multiple stories about pet insurances ending up costing 2 or 3 times more than what you’d pay upfront to,the point of many people recommending saving money monthly for vet costs. Without mention at all of the specific costs of your case, you come up as disingenuous. How much did you pay for what specific procedures? How much is the monthly insurance fee and what covers? Deductibles? Exclusions? Etc? To me, the worst thing is that you became coopted by the campaigns of terror that insurance companies promote to seek clients. The sole thing that stops me for unsubscribing right now is the towel game. Simple and helpful.

I didn't even know pet insurance was a thing, I'm disabled and on a fixed income, so a vet bill could be devastating for me, doubly so if I couldn't pay it and it cost me my dog. Thank you for this wonderful advice, I'll be investing asap. I do have a question, though, if you're willing to take a bit of time. As I said I am disabled, and I have a nearly 10 week old rottweiler mastiff mix. I've been doing a lot with her, and she is incredibly smart and so much fun. My question, though, is actually about the future. My disability gives me poor balance and a permanently injured left arm that can't be pulled on. I want to take my little Sasha on walks (even though leash training has been hell, she really doesn't like the leash,) but I'm afraid that as she gets bigger and stronger she'll quite likely be able to pull me right over. Obviously I don't want that to happen, but it seems that in training you really need the thing to happen first in order to teach the dog not to do it. Is there a way around this? Obviously I don't want to have to eat concrete in order to teach her not to make me eat concrete lol, and would love any advice that helps with this problem.

I’ve been disabled since 13 from a severe progressive brain deformity. It’s my goal to eventually train a service dog prospect for myself, which I’ve been preparing for for about 3 years now. None of the service dog programs in my state have been helpful for me, as none of them have been familiar with my condition and its effects. When I am approved for SSI, I plan on saving for a long time, getting everything I need, getting a prospect when ready, and then using a portion of my check for pet insurance fees. It can be so helpful, especially for us who are disabled!

I don’t know if I can be of help for your question, but, I can share what I’ll be doing for my situation (as I will be adopting a prospect of a large size, one that likely will be close to my weight, being that I’m 96-99lbs). Obedience is very important with how dogs behave on the leash, and you want to teach the dog structure. When the dog is pulling, not at your side when supposed to be heeling, correct the dog with a leash-pop/leash-pulse (you don’t want to pull the leash). Reward the dog when it is walking on the leash well. Try and start this in a distraction-free environment, and slowly branch out to areas with distractions once they know what they’re supposed to be doing. Lower the criteria and give the dog breaks when doing this, and slowly build up your distance and duration from there, when the dog is successful. For myself, I’ll be utilizing added tools, such as a slip-leash, or maybe a prong collar, along with an E-collar to help me, as I am very petite and very weak. A prong collar, if you use it correctly, can be great, especially with Rotties, as their necks are very muscular and thick, which will help you maintain control and supply better corrections without causing the dog to choke out.

The rip off is, they go up in premiums as your dog ages. Then at the same time, they confuse you on what they cover, very unlike they did when my dog was a puppy. Because of this, my dog died a slow miserable death, because when I would call the pet insurance company ahead of time, they would confuse me on how they would label the illness, leaving me confused and afraid to spend 1,000 - 3,000 dollars on vet bills, without knowing if I would be reimbursed. After my dog died, I called to cancel, then they started talking like he would have been covered. He died of heart failure, which came on sorta suddenly after risky medications. Sometimes I think he was misdiagnosed. This part was the veterinarians fault. But I had pet insurance for when he got old and sick, but this still happened to him. The vet hospital, and my pet insurance company left me in the cold. You have to actually know somebody who works in a pet insurance office, to get the wording right. Otherwise, you're better off just putting away a certain amount per month, although this may not have helped too much in your case, since your pet was still young, which is rare. In your case, pet insurance was the right choice. For you're next pet, my advice is to have at least a couple 1,000 dollars saved up for his emergencies. And make sure you can afford about 50 to 100 dollars a month to add to that account. Take it from someone who watched his premiums go up for almost 14 years, just to watch his red-pin die in front of him, or like a dog in the street, after making mistakes trying to save him.

Bought a dog with my fiancé. I had dogs my whole life growing up, a bit small but I guess it’s fine. But I love big dogs, but a dog will always have my heart. We are looking for pet insurance. Every insurance is different but put it this way. Our dog life expectancy is 14-15 years. Monthly charge is $90 a month. They cover up to $15,000 a year and exams. Which is good because they always run exams first. So basically, I’ll get my moneys worth. If something happens, and the bill is $10,000 I won’t be guessing. Because I know it will be covered. 15 years for 15,000 annually and reset. Worth every penny. Be smart, get it. Get a good one though and if you have questions, call and ask or email them. Don’t second guess and then find out they don’t.

Yes! First always practice caution and work with an in person trainer with any concerns bc it can be dangerous. For me, when I had resource guarding fosters (which was often), we worked first on boundaries which means structure and routine in the day. Hand feeding meals if possible and working on cues and commands several times a day - this set the expectations and built that mutual respect ❤️

I have my cat on Trupanion but unfortunately they are prejudice against pitbull‘s. I got my first quote from them when I first rescued my pitbull and she was three months old. I called a month later and my quote went from $42 a month to $167 a month and nothing had changed from the information on my dog. She was still only a puppy so she was put on the age scale of under one year old both times I called for a quote. The only thing that changed was the fact that they now charge extra for any bully breed! This is racism and BSL in my opinion!! Now she’s with ASPCA insurance for $57 a month with a $250 deductible and $10,000 a year coverage. What is your opinion of ASPCA insurance? I would have gone with Trupanion for her if it had not been for the BSL (breed-specific legislation). I wish I would have gotten my senior pit insurance years ago, but because of her age they quoted me over $500 a month. I would have saved a ton because she now has Cushing’s disease. I am just like you, one of those crazy pet parents that will do anything for their animals. I’ve spent over $5000 on my senior pitbull just this year, for all the testing just to get her diagnosed! I am not financially well off, but they are my babies.

I have nothing to do with Trusted Pals in the way of payments for endorsement or employment, but I just have to say: The best pet insurance, I think, is Trusted Pals because of their wellness portion of their insurance. After you pay your bill you'll get reimbursed $750 minus your deductible and they'll pay you 80% of that. The thing about Trusted Pals is they don't have their wellness portion of their insurance broken down into what they'll pay (like all the other pet insurance companies) i.e. dental cleaning $150.00, vaccines $50, blood work $60, microchip $30, flea problem $40.00 etc. (these are just examples) AND you have to pay a monthly amount for this limited wellness plan that really isn't a wellness plan at all. It's a scam. Many people's pets don't need some of these because they're coming on board with their pet already microchipped, etc. and they have an indoor cat etc. Trusted Pals wellness portion pays for the necessary annual wellness checkups, dental cleaning, blood tests, vaccines, microchip... whatever your vet deems necessary. It's not broken down into all these categories that they'll only pay for. The bill for the wellness check of our cat was about 50% less and he got the necessary care he needed; dental cleaning, dental radiographs, anesthesia, blood work etc. His maximum coverage is $8,000 annually and his monthly premium is for us a manageable $57 dollars monthly. ,It did go up a little bit from last year, but what else is new? He was already microchipped from the shelter and he's an indoor cat. He never has a flea problem. It's their wellness portion that is, to my way of thinking, pretty fair. That's the most important part. Annual checkups. There should be no barriers to this. Catching a disease or health problem early with blood work and exams is key. Trusted Pals priorities regarding our cat's health care is in the right place.

Within 16 hours of discharging she jumped off my lap and broke her wrist.. $1000.. literally $2600 in the first week of having her! Illness wasn’t covered but thankfully the accident on her foot was covered in the insurance policy I’d taken out

Well, I'm sold. My neighbors Great Dane/ Pitbull mix attacked my beagle. I live on an acre I always have him on a leash. Leash on a walk, always. The lake I live behind was very low and the Great Dane went around the fence into my yard. Puncturing Charlie's throat. He's in an oxygen tank at the pet hospital. It's going to be thousands and thousands and thousands of dollars. My neighbor hasn't mentioned ANY compensation. Wish I saw this video of last week.

Hartville has saved me, and my dog. When you have to make a trip to an emergency vet it's very expensive. Without Hartville, I wouldn't have been able to afford the emergency surgery she needed.

For the majority of people, I agree. Pet insurance is a good idea assuming you can do the math and the cost works out overall. The cost of insurance might be too high over the course of your pets life within reason unless your pet is hit with an EXTREME illness. I’m also in a fortunate position to be able to pay out of pocket compared to most. The one thing I will argue as you brought up your cat is that yes, insurance would have saved you in this situation. However, I might make the argument that 14 years is a pretty good life for a cat and putting them through surgeries and other meds and procedures might not be worth it. Obviously that’s a VERY personalized decision and your choice to continue treatment of your cat is by no means a wrong one. But I simply want to point out that a wide variety of factors exist that can change things.

Just bought my pet insurance. They cover annually 550 bucks in routine care plus the accidents and illness.... And my yearly premium is only 575.... So considering I used that routine care money to cover the spade and vaccines I literally saved about 100 bucks in total for the first year. And after 1 year I can drop the routine care if I want and my premium will go down in half. Basically I got 1 year of pet insurance for free because it paid to get my puppy spade and all the routine care done.

I paid out of pocket for the vet to in their words try and they still killed my dog with surgery. Insurance or not, it’s irrelevant when the vet you’re dealing with sucks and just looking for money

What if your pet has unfortunately been diagnosed with a certain disease and you’ve just found out about it? I had no idea pet insurance was a thing but my exotic pet is young and was recently diagnosed with a disease. After paying the full cost of his emergency visit, I found out about pet insurance but I’m thinking that it’s too late to have it. Would you still recommend getting pet insurance if your pet had already been diagnosed but is still young? Or is it not worth it anymore?

Pet insurance doesn’t cover Pre-existing conditions but I know the insurance called ( ManyPets )will cover a pre-existing condition if your pup has been symptom free for 18 months I believe but I think it’s worth getting the insurance just in case something else pops up

After looking into this insurance, not sure how good it is. While they have a A+ with the BBB, seems they have a lot of complaints surrounding their policies, timing of policies, what's actually covered and not covered, and seems like their customer service is not good. Charging accounts when policies were canceled and taking too long to refund. Even what they think is pre-existing when a veterinarian said it wasn't. No thanks. People, do your own research before handing your money over.
