Rover vets people very minimally, and it's been shown that totally inexperienced people do get profiles on Rover. There are over a dozen licensed, bonded pet sitting organizations in our smallish area, which have addresses and offices and reviews. I appreciate that there are some really good and experienced sitters with lots of reviews working on Rover, and good for them. Otherwise I CAN'T imagine turning over my pet to a complete stranger.... not even know where they live.

Hi. I’m a 5 star rated sitter on Rover in Savannah, Ga. My question for this woman is did you meet the sitter prior to just leaving them with her. If not, she bares some responsibility herself! I always require a meet and greet before accepting a booking, both for my safety, the safety of my dog, and the client’s peace of mind. Stop trying to hurt the rest of us that are out here trying to help people and earn a living.
@seamichoo4 ай бұрын
I agree with you for the most part. I'm a fellow sitter and left a pretty long comment on this video saying basically the same plus a lot more. Just wanted to point out that even though I am of the same mind on meet & greets and that they should be done. The fact that they are not required for a booking and even if they are done. They're more for piece of mind and a good tool for making an informed decision, they can easily be rendered useless if the person is good at putting on a facade. (I mean honestly if you had bad intentions and wanted them to leave their pets with you. Wouldn't you pretend to be nice and caring so they would? Even without bad intentions most people try to make a good impression to get the job they want.) Bookings and background checks are required and were done. Only doing what is required doesn't make you at fault in any way. She's blameless as she did nothing wrong. Even though I agree there is more she could/should of done.

Rover is a NIGHTMARE. They are not a pet sitting service. They are a go between. We have a 4 month old puppy still "missing" and an older lab going on 2 months. Another dog 2 days ago got out of the house. CNN did a great story. There are COUNTLESS incidents. If the sitter is so good then why do they need a TECH COMPANY to get them work and take alot of their money? Hire a professional pet sitting service and you'll come home to a happy healthy dog. Not a lost, abused or dead one.
@angelthymera26817 ай бұрын
Sitters who go AWOL don't get paid if there is a report made within 48 hours of the sitting anyway so whatever dumb "sitter" does that, there is literally no point. Buuuut, the owner paid off the platform which is against the terms of service. If you pay thru the service, it's much harder to get scammed. Also, meet-and-greets are a must. Any pet parent who doesn't meet their sitter first is irresponsible. She doesn't get her money back.

Omg..I almost left my dogs with Rover.I’m about to go on the trip soon and will make an appointment to leave dogs with them..Thanks to the owners who shared their sad story to the news…And yes only couple of bad employees mistreated someone’s precious pets.It’s easy to say if you are a cold heart person to others or the animals.Until you change your systems of making sure you see with your own eyes where exactly all drop off go to be..!! Not just check the sitter fake ID and don’t really see their real background,and you just left the dogs with them..I love my dogs to the moon.There’s no way I would risk their lives to place an unsure for their safety.

Rover is terrible our family is going through a situation with them now and trying to find their corporate office to get some assistance. Their trust and safety department is useless

It's more than one or two. There are a lot of horror stories about pets being lost, abused, or neglected after pet parents hired a sitter through Rover. It IS Rover's fault if they do not do a thorough background check.

Did i miss it or did they mention how long she was gone and if the sitter ever sent her photos of the Huskies? Not receiving photos is a red flag so is paying the sitter of the platform. I'd be livid if i didn't get a photo of my pet daily
@derby1991utube7 ай бұрын
As a sitter, this absolutely broke me to hear. But since I began with Rover, almost 6 years ago, I have ALWAYS said that Rover needs to do more than just a background check. I believe there should be mandatory first aid classes and home checks. I hate that sitters like this exist. ALWAYS meet your sitters and grill them beforehand!! Look them up online and make sure to get their full name and set up multiple back up lines of communication.
@CanineCuddleCare7 ай бұрын
They will NEVER do that because they are not a professional pet care service. You would do best going on your own. Have your own business where you are licensed and insured and make 100% of the money. This is the problem. People think it's a pet care service and it is not. They state that very clearly. We aren't talking one or two incidents. This has been going on all across the US.

Yes they should, I had a sitter that left my dog caged up everyday and handed me soiled blankets from his cage that was so soiled they smelled like chemicals. Dog was dirty and skinny like he was not fed at all for 9 days.

🐾 I hope *Misty the Husky* get justice and her owner wins the case against Rover. She used a Rover sitter and her beloved pet dies because of the sitter's neglect, then *both Rover and their sitter are liable!* How dare Rover not even compensate her for the expensive vet bills and necropsy, as if the emotional trauma and loss weren't already enough!

I feel so bad for the owners and dogs that had a terrible sitter! I’m a sitter on rover, and I would never treat a pet in this way. I love the dogs I sit for, and care for them like my own. This is upsetting and is giving all pet sitters a bad name, and there are many good sitters on rover!

@jennifera5311Ай бұрын
I could see this being a dangerous gig,because the sitter doesn't know much about the dog like the owner. especially if the sitter has to take the dog to their own house. if the sitter is to leave the dog at the owners house overnight (i am not sure the rules of rover) and if this is a thing, what if the dog injured itself while home alone overnight . with that said, I can not believe people would neglect a dog like this, just horrible,they should being getting jail time. or some sort of record of these incidents.some sort of animal cruelty charge.......... I am so sorry for the ones who have suffered . so devastating ! you truly just never know people anymore..
