To prevent that from ever happening again, you could install an "Ext-Pow-Interrupter Relay". It will disconnect the ignition circuit of the bus, as long there is external power fed to the bus. Or go really fancy and install a MARECHAL "RettBox". A self ejecting connector that activates as soon as you start the ignition ^__^

Nice to see it with an AEC AV 590 engine. Simply the best fitted to RMs in my opinion. RM 1009 has a very interesting history. It was the third Routemaster fitted with a Leyland engine and not only it worked the 207 group and the 255 out of Hanwell garage, this bus also operated on Route 97 Brentford- Ruislip Station and probably the Summer Sunday extension to Ruislip Lido. The bus was then transferred to Cricklewood garage in March 1963 as I researched for there were more Leyland powered RMs allocated to that garage. Well, nice to see the bus upload onto You Tube.

Correction: When I stated RM 1009 was the third Routemaster fitted with a Leyland engine I forgot about RML3 and CRL4. What should have been stated was that RM 1009 is the third production Park Royal bodied Routemaster fitted with a Leyland engine and from what I researched Leyland engined RMs were hitting the streets of London from December 1962 onwards from Tottenham, Mortlake, Crickclewood , Stockwell, and by 1963 the 36 group.

Perhaps you both will get to do one of the Amersham & District Motorbus Society’s Running Days (maybe in 2025 if you are both too busy this year!). Wow that workshop had so many wonderful buses .. I spotted the Dual Purpose Leyland National in one clip .. but also several of these London Country RF308 (was owned by Peter Legg at one time) & Atlantean AN264 have both been in service at several A&D running days in the past.

And double oops with the continuity error, after you put the "23" stickers over the destination blinds, then at 5:16 we see 2355 roll out of the barn without them, and the "38" destination visible. May I suggest you take a leaf from the railways and have some kind of "NOT TO BE MOVED" board on the steering wheel that you don't remove until all checks (including disconnection of shore supply (or "barn supply")) have been completed?

Was the company that is no longer operating and Richard got his previous bus from Routemaster 4 Hire? @@PeteAndHisBus Aw Wow, that's a monster of a tank at 130 litres 😂, that must cost you nearly 200 quid a time to fill your bus with diesel at Current prices. What kind of range does a full tank give you? I know it'll depend on the engine that's in your bus, I'm guessing the Cummins engine probably gives you a bit better MPG than the retro AEC one does, but I might be wrong. I love the sound of both engines but there's nothing quite like the sound of a 6 cylinder classic AEC, they just sound beautiful don't they 👍 Have you ever driven a bus with a manual gearbox, if so, did you enjoy it pal?
