801 MOTO thanks man, I just love sport quads in general. A lot of them are pretty similar with their own little quirks. It’s a bummer Yamaha is the only one building new sport quads. That’s amazing! The 450 is no joke, take it easy at first because the power it has will get to your head and you’re gonna want to let it rip. Quick story, back in 08 when I wanted to purchase my first ever quad, I went for the 450 because I wanted to enter the “off-roading gang” with the best of the best. It was definitely an experience I’ll tell you that. After a while I was out there barking wheelies and practically anything “bark-able”😂 it’s an amazing machine and you’ll get used to it in no time. I've had a 450 and now have a 700. As for the stable ride of the 450 if you haven't tried to or haven't ridden a 700 that's been widened out try it. I widen my 700 by 4 inches in the rear and 3.5 in the front and it's a different machine. My buddy with a stock 700 rode mine and now hes getting his widened. Both fun rides but at my age the 700 is more comfortable lol.

I actually have 1 inch spacers on the front and rear of my raptor. The long term goal is longer travel arms and a wide rear axle but we all know how expensive that can get depending on what I do for suspension. The power delivery on the Yamaha Raptor is just constant insane power from low end to top end. The power delivery on the 450's is much more like a two stroke, not as much low end but as the engine revs through the power band you'll suddenly feel the surge of insane power! Not sure what Hager's opinion is but it would be interesting to know 🤔😁
@PeteHager5 жыл бұрын
Dirtbike Videos The differences in engine size and design make for a different experience. The raptor has more torque and smooth consistent power. The YFZ doesn’t hit as hard from the low RPM’s. It needs high RPMs to build the power but once it’s up there it pulls very strong. The raptor is pretty soft and isn’t a stiff as the YFZ. It’s definitely more of a trail quad. The YFZ felt smooth at high speeds though, it seemed like the faster I rode it the smoother it was. Whereas the raptor is pretty comfy and fun to play on all the time. And the end of the day one is a trail quad and one is a track quad.

The Raptor will definitely edge a 450 in top speed. In my experience with 450's they definitely pull super hard out of the hole and tend to be as fast or outrun a raptor up to 60-70 mph. Then the Raptor will overtake. It really depends on how they're set up. Stock for stock I think it would be pretty close

So from being able to ride both if you was to sell your raptor and start all over again what would you personally now buy based off riding both if you had the choice to buy either a 2020 700 or a 2020 450
@PeteHager5 жыл бұрын
I thought about this decision for quite awhile before getting the Raptor, I was super close to picking the YFZ at first. One of my main reasons for picking the Raptor was its reputation for reliability. People talk very highly of them and I knew I could put a ton of hours on it. Plus it has a broader power range and higher top speed. I primarily trail ride and figured the Raptor would be more suitable for my area. I do however want the 450 for occasional track days and dune trips, the 450's are much more practical for jumping. It will be interesting to have both machines eventually and to see which model I pick for certain rides.
@christopherbingle38445 жыл бұрын
If you couldn’t afford a raptor second hand would you take a clean 450 in its place I want to get a quad but can’t afford a raptor atm but a clean 450 has just become available near me within my budget do you think it’d be a good substitute for a raptor?

I would lean towards Yamaha or Honda since parts are cheaper and easier to source. Theres much more aftermarket available for them.

@PeteHager5 жыл бұрын
Lee DiMatteo I’ve been told that’s how they feel out of the box. Matt is only 155lbs and he had softened his shocks quite a bit from the factory settings. I think the wider stance made it feel smooth too

I can afford one, what to get? The yfz450 ot the raptor 700? Trail rides only and no track use at all.
@PeteHager5 жыл бұрын
Rom Hovav if your strictly gonna be on trails will be hard to be the comfort and reliability of Raptor. I’ve always said if I could only have one quad that would be it! You can obviously trail ride a 450 but it’s considerably wider than the raptor. I would also expect more maintenance with a 450 as well. The main reason I want a 450 is for occasional track and dune riding👍
@mihaidreghiciu80352 жыл бұрын
I dont understand why on quads like this you hold the clutch when slowing down?
@PeteHager2 жыл бұрын
You need to pull in the clutch when engaging the rear brake or the motor will stall. Plus you want to clutch it when downshifting so it just becomes habit to always grab it when coming to a stop

Would your prefer the raptor or yfz idk what to get?
@jaryn9685 жыл бұрын
Nick Skibinski depends on the type of riding you’re going to be doing
@PeteHager5 жыл бұрын
Nick Skibinski I got the Raptor first because I wanted a great all around machine. It has tons of power and a very reliable reputation. I primarily ride trails and knew the machine would see a lot of hours so it made sense. I planned on getting a 450 after the raptor because occasionally I would like to ride at MX tracks and the 450 is much better for jumping. Plus I think the 450 would be fun at the sand dunes. It really comes down to what your needs are and where your going to be riding. I’ve always said if I could only have one quad it would be the Raptor and I still stand by that👍

how do you swing the quad on sharp turns i hear you need the clutch... is that true? can you tell me how
@PeteHager5 жыл бұрын
I tend to pop the clutch when i'm pulling a quick U turn on a tight trail. I suppose I've popped it on berms now and then but for the most part during sharper turns it's mainly all throttle and being in the right gear. Gotta get those tires spinning!👍

Awesome video!!! what would you choose a trx450r or a yfz450r
@PeteHager5 жыл бұрын
I like the TRX's and I don't want to appear brand loyal to Yamaha but I would like fuel injection so that really only leaves me with the YFZ. An LTR would be sick but I would like a newer machine for practicality reasons. Too bad Honda doesn't get in the mix with an updated TRX!
