That replica swayed at any angle like the cars in the TV show. Doesn't look like upgraded the suspensions. It handled like back in the day. Looks like most US cars from the past had soft suspensions. It was all about a smooth ride comfort. Still a fun video to watch.

You have to learn the Torino. She will slide through ANY corner, so you have to be good...countersteer the fishtail..kick the tail out when entering a corner...you can't drive her like a Porsche.

Though there is something to be said for suspension upgrades. Especially if you're gonna put a beast of a motor in it.
@garydunn30377 жыл бұрын
That was typical of all these big old cars, too much power at the rear wheels which when pushed hard, would cause the rear end to try and overtake the front. That was classic performance of these big old "Land Yachts" as we call them here in the UK.
@SixLowa6 жыл бұрын
is that why the back wheels spin soo much?
@garydunn30376 жыл бұрын
So much power and torque applied to the rear wheels. Modern cars are almost always front wheel drive, so this would be impossible. Although you could do a front end Donut I suppose.

I think these guys were just having too much fun !! Swerving around the corners, if you had better suspension on there you wouldn’t be sliding around those corners like they were

Yeah, the ol' girl didn't very well at all by todays standards, but remember the four door Torino's and the other mid seventies cars they were chasing didn't handle at all. And that was the 70's.

I had a 1974 in Deutschland, drove it like Starsky (showing all other drivers how great the Gran Torino performed / handled (Gabriel Hijackers in the rear) then a 1975 in California, doing the same WITHOUT any upgrades like Rousch - type stuff . . . . . . . you are a terrible driver. But then, that is my viewpoint.
