This is a 1970 sketch from a 1974 rerun of Cook and Moore's "Not Only, But Also" that includes a cricket match with good vs evil plus a 1965 sketch called "Drink!".

oh god... I'd never seen this before and it's just magnificent. I have bitching awful toothache right now but it's still making my ribs hurt more than my damn jaw. Thank you Peter. Thank you Dud. I wish we had more of you both around now.

No wonder they got pissed of with each other, such an intense relationship. First time I've seen this one, and I thought I'd seen most. A real gem. Thanks.

Just like a marriage, They did well to last that long.They were still ground breaking with the Derek and Clive stuff in 1977. Cheers.

Thank you for this! What fun to see the entire "Drink" sketch. Had only seen a partial clip prior to this. And, thank you to Pete and Dud. Unparalleled.

When Peter Cook was a pupil at Radley College, one of the senior prefects was future England cricket captain Ted Dexter. Cook was caned by Dexter for drinking at the Henley Regetta. His dislike for the game probably stemmed from this event.

With this and Python's Philosophers' Football Match, all we need now is someone to do the Great Scientific Minds of History Snooker Championship.

In Python's 1972 version they played soccer. That's why I did want to point out that it was done in 1970 and this came from a rerun that was aired in 1974. The whole 1970 season of Not Only, But Also (except for a few filmed bits) was destroyed. They stuck on all of the filmed bits plus some new footage of Cook+Moore on a boat outside New York for this 1974 rerun special. They couldn't film in N.Y. for Union reasons and had to come up with sailing in a boat idea to get around it.

I thought you were talking about the soccer match parody from one of the two episodes Python did for German television, but they were all funny.

The only way they could've done this is to come up with the idea during/after a rare snow storm of playing cricket in the snow. Then do the first part after. There was no CGI and it looks pretty real to me, a Canadian. Plus the added Pythonesque twist of historic characters. The whole thing is totally out of John Cleese's book.
@beverleekasdorf433810 ай бұрын
A great misconception exists that Cleese was the originator. In fact, Cook and Moore preceded Cleese. Many of Cook's ideas were inspirations to subsequent generations of British comics. While it is true that the Pythons were wonderfully inventive, I hope people will also appreciate Peter Cook and Dudley Moore and their rightful place in the history or comedy. There are several recorded interviews with the Pythons and documentaries about Peter Cook that explain this. No offense meant to you. Just want Peter Cook to be remembered and appreciated.

So, any lost shows may still be next to the recently discovered 9 episodes of Doctor Who. Fingers crossed.

They have found "lost" episodes of "Not Only, But Also" in the past, but they like to keep them in a vault where nobody can see them.

@goweresque Actually 'good' won as its not allowed to catch the ball with an item of clothing. There is a penalty of 5 runs.

Looks like Terry Jones as Good bowler Florence Nightengale, but I doubt he worked with Cook and Moore in 1970. This would seem a cross between the Pythons' "International Philosophy" and "Batsmen of the Kalahari," but it predates both. Looks like they filched a bit from their friends. :)

Its not a tie, as in cricket any runs made before the ball is caught don't count, so all the runs completed while the ball is in orbit are void.......................Evil wins by 562 runs.
