Yes, "Lines On My Face" might showcase his amazing guitar playing the best. While most of the other guitarists of that era were blues players, Frampton was really more like a jazz player in his voicing and feel. Great.

Thanks for giving Peter Frampton some love. I've been a fan since his Humble Pie days and consider his one of my top 5 guitarists of all time. His runs are never mechanical, always melodic. He's amazing. Not only was he a friend of George Harrison but he played on his All Things Must Pass album. And he had Ringo Starr playing on his Wind of Change album. He's definitely top tier. Great reaction, Nick!

Ahh Nick! Truer words have never been spoken my friend when you said, “They captured something really special here.”. I believe that this is still the greatest selling live album of all time. Legend has it, that the guy who invented the talk box had only made two of them. One went to George Harrison, and the other to Joe Walsh. Peter was very close friends with George Harrison, who didnt use it much, if at all, so he gave his to Peter. And the rest, as they say, is history. And, I dont believe there were two guitars playing the intro riff. That was Bob Mayo on the Fender Rhodes Electric piano, and you can here it playing thru most of the song, though Mayo was his rhythm guitarist. You can see then side by side on the Midnight Special clips of “Show Me The Way”, and “Baby I Love Your Way”. Probably one of the finest live guitar solos of all time, up there with Nugent’s “Stranglehold”, of Page’s “Stairway To Heaven “. Pete’s a phenomenal guitarist, but he improvises every solo, so he never plays the same thing twice. For years Ive listened to Peter sing these songs from “Comes Alive”, and never hear those bits that I know by heart, note for note. But on the other hand, just because he didn’t recreate the original, the new one’s just as fucking good!

Wow! Great reaction, and I can’t believe this is the first time you listened to Do You Feel Like I Do? When it hit the radio in the ‘70s, FM DJs were sick of the number of requests for this song. You could literally hear it at least once an hour across multiple stations 24 hours a day for weeks upon weeks. ❤

Good news.❗❗.. Peter Frampton is on tour again. He plays this weekend March 16th 2024 in Windsor Ontario Canada and throughout the USA after that. If you have never seen him in concert before grab tickets now while you can... He is in his mid 70's so we may not have another opportunity. Known as one of or the very best guitarists ever .....he will absolutely imprint your mind with a memorable experience once you have seen him live. I had that opportunity back in 2011 while living in the USA for 5 years and it was definitely the highlight of my five years living there. Want more proof of his exceptional guitar status❓ Look him up playing "black hole sun" .... He kills it even hit in his 70's. Enjoy the concert ❗

Frampton was an original member of Humble Pie with Steve Marriott. It always amazed me the difference between Frampton's solo band work from Humble Pie. 'Frampton Comes Alive' was a huge double live album back in the 70's. Frampton Comes Alive! is one of the best-selling live albums of all time. This was so odd as his previous 4 studio albums did not do well with only his fourth album breaking into the top 100 at 32. "Show Me the Way", "Baby, I Love Your Way", and "Do You Feel Like We Do" from Frampton Comes Alive were all over the radio and released as singles. Thanks @greybeard !!!! Rick Beato does an interesting interview with him.

This was so good to hear again. Thank You and Thanks to Grey Beard as well. I saw Peter Frampton Live the very night before they recorded his Epic Album, "Frampton Comes Alive. I had no idea that they would be recording this on the very next night! Let me tell you, he had a way with the crowd, man. He'd raise his arms & everyone would Cheer & then he'd drop them & everyone would just stop. It was crazy good. By the way, Peter Frampton is on his very last tour Right Now. He evidently has some serious health issues which will preclude him from touring in the future. Kind of sad, all of these Magical Musicians are all starting to drop like flies. Well, I suppose it's time because they're all in their 70s + now, but it just hurts a bit... and there's no one to replace them either. Such is Life, huh? Anyway, remain Well & Happy too. Keep Smiling... Cheers...

Frampton Comes Alive ( mainly this song but others from the album) was THE soundtrack to the summer of 1976. This was in a year that The Eagles released 2 albums ( Greatest Hits and Hotel California), Zepplin released Presence an Physical Graffiti was still fresh, Aerosmith Rocks, Nugents Stranglehold, and I could go on. But this song is the one that still reverberates through my head with memories of that Summer.

My older brother was a Humble Pie fan because of Peter, so of course when he packed up his pony and loaded his Sony and headed to the United States, Peter Frampton had composed enough material to duplicate a selection of songs to complete his live LP. One vinyl originally and a second album added by the request of his management team giving us a double live album. Prior to FCA, we wore the grooves out of those first four LP’s. When FCA was released it was a huge ‘WOW’ factor getting to hear the audiences contributions, however… Each versions of all the songs from the live versions contrasted with the studio versions gives us something differently. One of the particulars was giving up some of Peter’s extra nuances we hear in the studio. Many are probably nodding their heads and thinking to themselves; well yea, of course things can be edited to perfection in a studio setting, but I’m not talking about that. What we get from the studio are all the bells and whistles on a deeper level. Extra vocal nuances which are lost live. Being out there performing it and recording it live was indeed a very profound deliverance of Peter’s showmanship and talent, but then going back and listening to his studio renditions is where we feel the evocativeness of his depth of heart as he pours his soul into each piece. For instance the solo from ‘Don’t Fade Away’ is one that delivers intensity. That elongated held note that wavers on is where Mr. Framptons pain is translated! We can actually FEEL his sorrow. I beckon everyone to collect Peter’s work from that first album on because his sound changes over the years. His catalog has its own seasons as he emerges and transitions from then and NOW.

Hi Nick I finally made it to this video I have been wanting to play. Love Peter Frampton and it is so good to see tracks from his studio albums are included in this marathon. At the time of "Frampton Comes Alive" it was difficult to get any studio albums where I lived, no record stores sold any, which was crazy concidering the live album was absolutely massive. I was able to order American Imports from a great record store that had only a few records in boxes on display, but claimed to be able to get you anything on vinyl....Turns out it was true, they could. His studio stuff is truly wonderful. I think the only surprise for me was the studio version of "Do you feel like we do" ? does not have any guitar voice box at all. His live concerts are brilliant on dvd. There is even a "Frampton Comes Alive 2" on dvd and is fantastic. He uses the voice box on yet another song "Can't Take That Away" which is as long as the solo on this. Of course "Show Me The Way" started it all as a hit single ... the solo on that is longer on the album version. This is so good. I hope we get more from Peter, who sadly is unable to perform any more due to a dabilitating illness. ... I hope you get to hear songs like "Lines on my face" & the affore mentioned "Can't take that away" .. Oh & "Fig Tree Bay" from "Wind of Change" is a beautiful song. In my youth it was not designer clothes that made you look cool ...It was what album you carried under your arm on your way to a mates house...and "Frampton Comes Alive" at the time was 'the' album to have. .... I wonder how many people noticed on "Do you feel like we do" ... The keyboard solo ... matches the guitar solo alot ? Loved this, thankyou ! Byee Jim X

Peter Frampton was diagnosed with inclusion-body myositis, an incurable neurodegenerative disease in 2018, which was effecting his walking and playing. He had his farewell tour 4 years ago, playing sitting down, but he has amazed his doctors by maintaining his ability to play guitar through doing rehab, and did his "Never say Never" tour this year. Before this live album, Joe Walsh used the talk box on "Rocky Mountain Way", and you saw the video of Jeff Beck using that similar Bag unit in 1974, but this 1976 Frampton album was the one that introduced the talk box to a wider audience. For one of the origins of the talk box see the video "Alvino Rey plays "St. Louis Blues" with Stringy the talking steel guitar" - a movie clip from 1944.

Nick, you and your wife have to listen to Pendragon`s song "Masters of illusion", the studio version. It`s a thirteen minute song with different melodies in succession, very much like "Supper`s Ready" and it ends with a mind-blowing electric guitar solo that is as good as anything ever played by Hackett, Howe, Gilmour or Rothery. A solo simply out of this world. You won`t be disappointed by it.
