On August 10, 2005, ABC aired a two-hour special, "Peter Jennings: Reporter," with archival clips of his reports and interviews with colleagues and friends. The special drew over 9 million viewers, and was the most watched television program of the night. (from Wikipedia) I was one them.

A beautiful tribute to a man who was, to me, a part of my life. I trusted him to tell the truth. I never had to wonder if he’ll come through with it; he gave it without being asked. There was a serenity about him that I always envied. He never seemed ‘prepared’ but in the best way. It was like he was sitting telling you that he knew everything about what was going on and would share it all with you. Thank you for sharing this video. Rest peacefully, Peter…. 💫

I'm from the UK and I have to say that I wish Peter Jennings could have been one of our News Anchormen. His distinctive voice drew you to sit down and watch and listen to what he had to say. A very remarkable and honest man - one that is sorely missed. To his family I say that the sadness of his departure must have been quite unbearable but his journey to his new world allowed him to be free of the cancer that took him 'home'. Your loss we all share . . . many many thanks I take this opportunity to wish you and all those that read this a very happy and prosperous 2015 . . . Luv'n'hugs to you all . . . Etienne (Paws)

As a child I always watched ABC World News. Peter Jennings was the real deal. Not only was he an unbiased, debonair, and classy gentleman, but the delivery of his news reports would grab your attention. I was really sad when he died. While the world wasn't perfect then, it was an even better place when Peter Jennings delivered the latest news. Every journalist on every major news network could learn a lot from this wonderful man

I remember watching him on 9/11. When I got home, that morning He was the channel I turned on for a week. When he started smoking on 9/11, I cant blame him, he's only human, after all.. I can imagine how stressful it was for him reporting that day.. How many loved ones he lost. The beginning of World News Tonight with Peter Jennings was my child hood history.. The Bein Wall, The Challenger Explosion, OKC then 9/11. He was impeccable in his reporting as he was everyday. GodBless Mr.Jennings.

Peter was the 'complete' anchor: good looking guy, great voice for broadcasting, really knew what he was talking about, and really cared about increasing his audience's knowledge of the world beyond the USA. How I wish we had him around now to help us make of sense of the madness going on in the Middle East. 02/17/2015

071949 Sometimes when I hear about an ISIS or Syria report on the news, I wonder how Peter Jennings would cover the story. If he was around today, its likely he won't be anchoring World News Tonight. He'll be in the Middle East making us care about the growing anxiety of ISIS, etc.

071949 Maybe make sense of what's going on in the Ukraine and in Russia, but Peter would have been retired by now. This man was part of our lives, although I saw him as a little boy up until I was a sophomore in high school and it was the beginning of the end of the Jennings, Rather, Brokaw era. How he'd cover today's news, we'll never know.

Eric.Cox Eric, you may well be right about Jennings being retired--had he lived he would have attained age 77 this coming July. (In my mind he is still stuck at the age he was when he passed away.) Too bad he didn't live long enough to write a memoir. What a book that would have been! 04/20/2015

Thank you for this tribute. I miss the integrity and honesty that he had. Integrity that is lost on the reporting styles of today in the US. Its all "click bait" and tabloid drama. Fear mongering and hopelessness. Where is the feeling we used to get, that our World has problems but they can be overcome with civility, fairmindedness, and honest, good faith communication? Not in the political dogma tearing us further apart as a Nation with every "news" story of today.

I remember after 9-11 I was watching Peter. A few days after 9-11 He still was visibly very uptight and stressed. I had his email (straight to the desk) email. One night I wrote him as he was on air, I said to him, Peter, loosen your tie and unbutton your shirt and relax. I was videotaping all the tv coverage then. And almost immediately, I watched him loosen his tie and unbutton his shirt and breath, for what seemed the first time since the night of 9-11. I had my old vhs tapes until not long ago. That was one pivotal moment for him during his 24 hour straight news casts.

Peter Jennings was one of the most gifted reporters of all time, along with Tom Brokaw of NBC NEWS but Jennings had the Education of self determination and strong will ,which enabled him to get to where he wanted to be. My guess is that he also had a really hi intelligence and the inner need to learn more, so school just did not work for him, he needed to learn on his own, which he did. I thought later in life he got his GED but nothing was mentioned. Still he was the most important role model I had as a kid, I learned words and I learned how to report , and in high school did my first interview, so Thanks Peter Jennings.....you really made a difference! Sorry u are not here and so sorry that ur family lost u too

I grew up throughout the 80’s and 90’s, and my parents always had World News Tonight with Peter Jennings on, on ABC every single night. Peter’s face and voice are burned into my memory, just like Walter Cronkite’s is for the previous generation. Even though the nightly news wasn’t something I paid particular attention to when my parents had it on, Peter’s voice became a trusted comforting friend for me as a kid. When I heard him say “Good night” at the end of the broadcast, it felt like the day was done, and tied up with a bow on it. I never knew he had been a smoker until his announcement, and his death still saddened and shocked me. He came from an earlier generation of reporters, anchors, and news people, who reported the news unvarnished, without agenda, and saw it as a privilege. Today the news is a business, riddled with agenda and ads. It’s a money making machine first and a reporter of news second. It’s really too bad. I haven’t watched regular mainstream news since around when Peter passed. I still stay informed, but have to really sift through things to find truly unbiased and factual reporting. Some of the closest recognizable sources today I think are PBS and the BBC, but I try to go directly to sources for facts today just the same. I miss feeling like I could believe the regular news though. It used to be a comfort.

It's almost 15 years ago since Peter Jennings was died from Lung Cancer..... How time fast it is. And many people still remember Peter Jennings. Peter Jennings is a complete package for anyone wants to be an enter into Journalism or Broadcast Industry in the future, like David Muir. In between two newsmen from the two generations, these two is almost has a same feature (except that Mr. David Muir is still single until now, of course, and he is have no time for that, he devoted his life to journalism and his loved ones. And he is not taking cigarettes, as Jennings did). And Mr. Muir has also a big influence on Jennings' way of delivering news to the public since he was a little boy from Syracuse, NY and he watch it on WNT with Peter Jennings (which he is anchored now weekdays) every night along with his family. And after all those years of hard work and dedication, the result were very fruitful. Here it is where he is today. He is now anchoring the top rating World News Tonight since 2014. If Peter Jennings is still alive today, it would have been seeing happy for his protegé, David. But it will never to be happen anymore to see him. But he still proud for him while is gone to the afterlife. Watching him from far away. The spirit and his presence of Peter Jennings will be still alive, forever. Lucky You, David! People will imagine that without David Muir, the WNT will continue suffering and its rating race and it will brink into collapsed completely, but this is a miracle...... And I very happy that you are very humble from the start. Always remember Mr. David Muir, you will still forever grateful to God and to everything for what you have now. And to share it to others so that they will follow and reach their dreams, like you. Keep it up your work, David! I'm counting on you! (And, here is the Special Bonus: Peter Jennings was the responsible for introducing the rising star, Christian Singer Sandi Patty to the American people and to the World, as she sings the Stratospheric version of National Anthem of the United States of America during the rededication of the Liberty in 1986, and broadcast it at the same station.) Two newsmen in Two Generations. I love them both!

I once had him on a flight from New Orleans to Houston. He placed a styrofoam container on its side in the overhead. We didn’t see it. Sitting close to Peter was Mike Dicta.( probably spelled wrong) all of a sudden water starts falling on Mike Dicta. It turns out the styrofoam container had frozen seafood in it. It was leaking all over poor Mike. Both men were very cool about it. I gave Mike a free dry cleaning card. You have to put the reason on the card. I made sure to blame it on Peter Jennings.

I grew up watching Peter. He was the last real news anchor we had. World News Tonight is pathetic now. I would like to know why they have the word 'World' in the title. Peter, Walter Cronkite, and Murrow would be ashamed at the state of news today. The internet has made networks decide Americans need to be dumb. All of the reporting is about Hollywood stories and fluff. Nobody wants real news anymore. We need someone like Peter now more than ever.

43:23 Peter is so unbothered and just continues to state the facts in such an emotionally charged environment. Take notes.

Aww, wasn't he such a Cutie Pie as a Baby. In 1965 he made his Bones doing a Rock & Roll Show called "Teen 65" which was a local Canadian Dance Show in the tradition of American Bandstand.

What an amazing reporter. Shame he didn't heed his own advice on keeping out of the tobacco file.

I believe he excelled as or as the foreign correspondent at the tragedy of the Munich Olympics and on the ground during the Viet Nam wat. At a time when television brought war and tragedy up close and personal in living color over our family dinner table.. From black and white to color from thousands of miles away to in our homes, reality, no denying the visible truth. Children we were the remote controls.

When it comes to Network News, and I mean no disrespect or slight to David Muir, Lester Holt or the lovely Norah O'Donnell, I will forever be a Peter Jennings, Tom Brokaw and Dan Rather guy! David, Lester and Norah has huge footprints to follow. They are good, but the potential is their to reach the status of Peter, Tom and Dan. That's GOAT status to me.

I felt really bad for Jeremy… I wanted to reach through the screen give him a hug and tell him it is OK and then I’d like to reach through the screen and ask his father/coach/whoever that man is what is his problem? First of all you don’t sit there and brag when a camera and a microphone is nearby about hurting a child…. Second of all when you’re confronted with irrefutable evidence about the first thing you did, the bragging, the threats… Don’t sit there and say you didn’t say it because you will have people calling you out just like Mr. Jennings dead right here… Look, I totally understand that maybe there are some aspect of parenting or guiding a child through childhood that is frustrating, infuriating, maddening, and that we all lose our rag from time to time… This insurmountable obstacle is made even more so if you, this boys father/coach/whoever he is, maybe did not grow up with the best of role models your own self… You have to understand though, as crappy as childhood you may have had that shaped you to who you are today there comes a point that you have to stand up and say hey look this is my problem this is all on me… Yeah I had a bad childhood but where I’m acting now it’s not anybody else’s doing but my own… And once you admit that out loud you then have to try and take steps to correct the problem instead of blaming everybody
