@GwyndolinOwO3 жыл бұрын
i don't think that's his main point. i think what he was trying to get at is the socks honestly look good- but no one gets to see them. obviously peter CAN wear fancy socks to places but typically when you buy something bright and fancy you want someone to be able to look at it. Something like the bottom of their shoes being colorful would be super neat since you can show it off as you walk as for socks get hidden very easy- which is obviously the point but for me if i was the only one that knew i had on my fancy socks i'd still feel like i couldn't express myself at work. the rebellion theme and hiding what you're doing contradicts each other a little bit. I can see some people being amused for a while but i can see why he's a bit confused about buying nice looking socks and then hiding them.

I’ve long since left the corporate would because of transferable skills but it’s actually very, very real that people literally HAVE to conform to company dress codes or else they lose their jobs. Not that they think they need to conform. And trust me, simply changing jobs thatll pay the same benefits and salary as corporate positions is easier said than done.

While I agree that the Dragons have the luxury to wear what they want, from a Millennial point of view, I think that "selling rebellion" is perhaps the most anti-rebellious thing one could do. At least when Nick was selling Lenin work shirts from his college dorm, there was a bit of a guerilla side and quality to it. Selling sneaky funky socks from a brand to "trick your boss" just seems fake and a bit childish. Most people in my age group disassociate themselves from their work life not try to integrate it. A rich Boomer wearing hippy socks at the height of his power is a sign of achievement. Telling dad you're not going to wear black socks as a "statement on your individuality" just seems petty. My .02.

I have a corporate job and I want those socks. I get it. When you aren’t at the very top of the pile, you can’t get away with wearing whatever you want. There are very strict dress codes. But of course an out of touch investor could not see this. He’s at the top.

Totally get this, I once tried to rebel against the corporate image, I went on holiday for 2 weeks, in that time I grew a goatee beard, bleached my hair and had my ear pierced. I returned to work in my corporate suit, shoes, tie etc and was promptly fired. If Peter Jones did that, would he have fired himself?
@toad18633 жыл бұрын
Now explain to me how what you did is equivalent to wearing colorful socks? Any person with a bit of sense could tell you that you would be fired if you show up to a corporate job were you are representing the company with bleached hear and you refuse to fix it immediately. But I highly highly highly doubt you would have been fired because you went to work with colorful socks. Use a bit of judgment.
@sandeshvantveen6 ай бұрын
Peter’s remarks at around 7:57 is so accurate. Nobody would bat an eye at someone wearing coloured socks. If they really wanted to make this work, they should have “revelled” by using other items of clothing.

Christ, if your employer is such a stiff that stripy socks are frowned upon go and work for someone else. FFS it's not like a face tattoo.

What if they can't because they are skint and can't go to work for someone else because they have very few skills and that employer has given them the right opportunity I.e. the job with the highest payment. It happens even now and even freedom of speech is being limited in the workplace.
@smoothmicra4 жыл бұрын
@@TheManInBlueFlames You're not a slave. If the micro management goes to the colour of your socks (if it bothers you) just move on. The colour of socks does not compare with "freedom of speech", the latter is a much more serious situation. You shouldn't conflate the two. If you're "skint" you are either getting paid minimum wage (in which case go and flip burgers for living, they will pay minimum wage and let you wear any socks you want at McDonald's!) or you are living beyond your means. If you are living beyond your means whose fault is that? If you are in a sh*tty job you hate just because it pays well, it comes down to what you value in life. There is always an alternative, you don't have to put up with a job that makes you unhappy. Make the move, re-train, dust off your CV, think about what you enjoy. Be bold!😉

My medical dr dad would love these! He always wants to look completely professional when working. However at home he dresses completely different and likes to have fun. This would be great as a Xmas present for him, especially the humorous “Quiet rebellion “ idea and the cards featuring historical “rebels “. Maybe they should offer personalised cards and a gift box option. The box could be dark and kind of boring, then inside lots of crazy colours and bright tissue paper or something…… Either way I think the dragons missed out here because I know a few people Who would love these.
