Blowin' or Blowing in the Wind info:
"Blowin' in the Wind" is a song written by Bob Dylan in 1962 and released on his album The Freewheelin' Bob Dylan in 1963. Although it has been described as a protest song, it poses a series of rhetorical questions about peace, war and freedom. The refrain "The answer, my friend, is blowin' in the wind" has been described[by whom?] as "impenetrably ambiguous: either the answer is so obvious it is right in your face, or the answer is as intangible as the wind".
In 1999, the song was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame. In 2004, it was ranked #14 on Rolling Stone magazine's list of the "500 Greatest Songs of All Time".
-----------------------------------
Peter, Paul and Mary:
Peter, Paul and Mary were an American folk-singing trio whose nearly 50-year career began with their rise to become a paradigm for 1960s folk music. The trio was composed of Peter Yarrow, Paul Stookey and Mary Travers. After the death of Mary Travers in 2009, Yarrow and Stookey continued to perform as a duo under their individual names.
Mary Travers has said she was influenced by Woody Guthrie, Pete Seeger, and the Weavers. In the documentary Peter, Paul & Mary: Carry It On - A Musical Legacy members of the Weavers discuss how Peter, Paul and Mary took over the torch of the social commentary of folk music in the 1960s.

...this masterpiece is what we call 'An Ageless Time Piece'...my kindergarten teacher was a BIG fan of PP&M and played their songs for us at recess, and my favorite was 'Puff The Magic Dragon'. I remember one time Walter Cronkite reported about a helicopter in Vietnam called the same as the song. I was only four years old but I remember vividly.😎✌️☮️

It's a powerful anti conscription/ miltary song, yet all the world's military expand non more so than in the USA, where money is more important than lives.. Arms deals make money, war is a profitable business for a lot of companies and individuals.. Sadly without wars it's impossible to justify any kind of military and that's a huge money making operation

Your father may have passed in life, but you're fortunate that he is still alive in your heart/mind. There are probably so many more moments you are fortunate to have shared. Write and share them with your children or others and he will live forever. To me a life remembered is a life that never ends. When born, a physical end is the inherent part of life. But I believe and find peace in a love lived and shared that goes beyond. Thank you mom.

After living 74 years and going serving my country from 66-69, I have seen a lot of things happen in this country. I managed to get through college on my own, with the help of Uncle Sam and a good wife who worked all her life. I even managed to get a Masters Degree and work over 40 years helping other people. During my life, I have always tried to do my part to make the world a better place but I realize now that will never happen. This is Veteran's Day 2021 and I have received a lot of texts saying "thanks for your service". While I do appreciate the thanks that many show us veterans, my prayer is that no more will have to serve and althought I am proud to have served, I wish that I had not had to. When I see leaders who evaded their sacred duty to serve , I know they really have no clue what it means to owe duty and gratitude to one's nation. It really enforces my belief that when the end comes, America will have long ended. I have never been able to find the word America in tbe Bible yet, but I am still looking. Just as it was during the days of this song, the answer is still blowing in the wind.

Mary was such a fox back then! She was enchanting to look at & listen to. She provided the feminine counterpoint to harmonies with Peter & Paul that offered a sentimental longing for better days, expressed in her voice and her facial expressions. Together, Peter, Paul & Mary carved a niche as the epitome of Folk Singers, a spin-off of the Blues tradition of emotionally expressing the pains of injustice, separation from loved ones, & hard-luck. There will always be a strain of Americans who feel this deeply, and see the beauty of humanity in Mary's face.

Blowin' and Puff, The Magic Dragon are their two most enduring songs from the early '60s, IMHO. Bob Dylan wrote it, but PP&M nailed it for all time with their version that hit #2 on the pop chart. Rolling Stone named it the 14th Greatest Song of All Time in their Top 500 list.

Born in the 50's, grew up in the 60's and 70's and have always been a fan of Peter, Paul & Mary. I saw a news clip when Mary passed away (Can't remember the network) and they just raved about her and the news commentator called her the voice of a generation. They are arguably the best folk group of all time, and (IMHO), they are.

I just want to give a shout out to the bassist on this recording, Richard Kniss, who you can see off to stage left, obscured in shadow, at the end of the video. This is absolutely the definition of great bass playing for this style of music: The bass part never draws attention away from the vocals, but if you start listing for the bass part, you will realize that he is adding a lot to the song, and I guarantee if you took that part away, the performance wouldn't have the emotional impact it does. Mr. Kniss played with PPM for decades, knowing that most of their fans would never know his name. RIP Richard.

Being born in 1951 I was so blessed to be in that generation that saw so much change in music, life and history. There are just sometimes when you know the voices blend and Peter, Paul and Mary ranked up there with Simon and Garfunkel for that kind of "Sound". Folk music gave way to rock and roll and the world moved on but....Please remember that a lot of singers and song writers in those days made their statement to the world. If you know the lyrics.....aren't the questions that they asked still with us today my friends. And I guess we are still asking those same questions. I guess the answer is still....."Blowing in the Wind"

Mary was at her most luminous when they performed this song during the March on Washington, on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial, a place I have never been able to visit without crying, for which I do not apologize at all. PP&M projected the better angels of our nature so forcefully, and beautifully, and well that they live in me always, every day. Mary is gone now, but her legacy will never die. Thanks to her, and to Peter and Paul, for one of the greatest musical contributions of the decade that mattered the most to me, the one in which I spent all of my teen years.

I heard that song while seeing a docu-drama about the civil rights movement on TV. I'm not certain but it seems to have had PP&M singing that while in a jail cell after being arrested for demonstrating. The words, the quality of singing, and most importantly, PP&M's ability to put deep feeling into the song made that one of the most memorable few moments of my life. I had to find out who sung that and buy a record of it. To me that is the number one song of all time.

My nan passed away last year aged 82. 1937 my beautiful nan was born. That made her a teenager in the fiftys. I'm jealous she got to live in them eras of the 50s and 60s and 70s. X my grandad was born 1935 and still going strong at 84 x

Almost all songs from the 60's are relevant today! We all saw something happening back then, tried to warn people! Now we pay the price!

I grew up during the Vietnam years, my husband went there! Came home so different! These people sang the anthem of those young men who died!

The most disgraceful "war" this country ever got involved in - and I am not talking about the young soldiers. They actually still believed in this country and didn't realize how crooked and corrupt politicians were... Still get angry when I remember all of my friends that were affected by that, and also all of the casualties over there of innocents.

This was my favorite song when I was a child growing up in the 1980s--which may sound a little strange, but I loved the imagery of mountains and seas and people and the sky and especially the line "How many seas must a white dove sail before she sleeps in the sand?"

Life is much better today than in the 60s. Today you have a lot more personal freedom and choice for the type of lifestyle you want to live, and there is a lot less discrimination and a lot more acceptance of different types of people. Yes, the music was a lot better then, but if you took a time machine back to that era, you'd see how restrictive society was, and you'd want to come back right away.

Without them, Bob was not Bob. Paul was at the beginning, Peter joined and pushed Bob to sing the tunes by himself. Then came Mary, and Bob continued to write for them. Thanks for all, we miss you Mary,

One of my favorite songs for all time. It especially resonates with me now with the pandemic, the feeling of isolation, the hate, the violence, a corrupt administration, the frustration, too many deaths and too much sadness all around us. We can only hope for better times. I am so happy I was able to see Mary perform in a concert years ago.
