Miles Rand that might work if the pickup truck was powered by diesel. Jet fuel is kerosene, which is ignited by the heat caused by the compression it experiences in the jet engine’s compressor cans. Likewise diesel is not ignited by a spark of any kind unlike petrol (gasoline). When an engine compresses the fuel and air mixture, extremely high temperatures are created. In a diesel powered engine, the compression is greater, meaning that the heat built up in the cylinders is enough to ignite the fuel and air mixture. In theory the pickup could run on kerosene, just like the plane, but the kerosene cannot lubricate the engine as well as diesel, so some damage could occur, but not as early as you might think. That’s why in the early days of Diesel engines, people were running their diesel powered cars on oil. The original diesel powered engine ran on peanut oil.

How Quagmire got fired bothers me. Any pilot would've checked the before start checklist to verify the amount of fuel on-board, which is then used to calculate important quantities such as the flight's weight, which is useful for calculating takeoff length and landing length. If he only notices the fuel indicator once it makes noise, then it means he somehow skipped over both a vital checklist and didn't even bother looking at the indicator ONCE. No doubt he would've been sacked, but Quagmire's been shown to be a talented pilot and no way a guy like him would fuck that up. Also, a plane that runs out of fuel doesn't just nosedive immediately. Planes are designed to glide for a sufficient distance, allowing pilots to declare an emergency and reroute to another airport within gliding distance. Also, no way a plane crash-landing that hard doesn't end up splitting into multiple pieces, and definitely no way it doesn't cause zero injuries. Half that flight is going to hospital and at least ten of them are dead. Also, props to the Channel 5 team for simulating a fiery explosion for a plane without fuel. But I guess I'm criticising a Family Guy episode, so it's all moot.
