Old School Fighter

Old School Fighter

2 жыл бұрын

He was first Western Fighter who knocked out a Thai Champion in front of his own public, in the legendary Lumpinee Stadium in Bangkok.
After a flurry of punches and knees Changpuek was knocked out in the 2nd round. Peter Smit became the world Muay Thai champion on August 31, 1990.
His fight against kickboxing legend Rob Kaman was also bright. In the 10th round he won by a knockout, which was considered impossible against the "unbeatable" Kaman at the time. Peter became the world kickboxing champion. It was the highlight of Peter Smit's short career.
Their fight was preceded by the following story: when Peter Smith was 18 years old and he first met Rob Kaman, he walked up to him, jabbed his finger at him and said: "One day I will beat you!" Rob Kaman laughed: "Boy, if you want to beat me - come to my hall." Peter said: "No, I will not come to your gym, but one day I will beat you!" And every time he saw Kaman he came up and said: “One day I will beat you! You are weak, I am stronger! " It was like an obsession for him to beat Rob Kaman. Because Rob Kaman was the pinnacle, he was the legend of the time, he was the best. And once he did it, many years later. Before the start of the fight, Peter ran to the ring, jumped over the ropes, full of energy ... Perhaps Kaman had a subconscious mind that this was the same boy who promised to defeat him.
His career was short-lived, but very bright
Peter Smit developed himself as an absolute top fighter in three of the hardest fight sports in the world.
Kyokushin Karate European Champion (1987)
Muay Thai World Champion I.M.F. (1990)
Kickboxing World Champion W.K.A. (1990)
Local crime Cor stole gold Rolexes from one of Peter Bart's friends. Upon learning of this, Peter advises Bart to contact the police, but Bart is intimidated and hesitates to do so. Peter, who has always hated injustice, intercepts his friend and demands that Cora return the watch. A conflict arises. Despite the persuasion of acquaintances, Peter does not back down. On August 15, 2005, the bell rang at Peter's house. He dressed quickly and left. Cor was near the house. There were children in the house, and Peter didn't want anything to happen to them ...
A car pulled into the quiet street of Maidornsingel. Two people got out of the car and argued loudly. It was a trap. Suddenly, a man in a black sweater and gloves appeared, approached Peter from behind and shot him in the back, and then after finishing off Peter with eight shots, he runs away, throwing his sweater and gloves in the bushes.
Jan Flessenbeck organized Peter's funeral. The funeral was attended by karate fighters and kickboxers from all over the world. The police accompanied the funeral procession from Rotterdam to Dordrecht. Several streets at the entrance to the cemetery were blocked. The world of karate and kickboxing said goodbye to their brother.
Many thanks to Glen Huisman for the footage of Peter's fights.

In my utmost humble opinion. In our” Modern” Era, there is so much practitioners of respective arts can learn from the warriors of the past, especially in relations to overall kicking technique, proper chambering, flexibility, dexterity, isometric strength exercises; were all an staple for the golden era kickboxers due to the fact that most of them came from traditional backgrounds which implemented such training methods as fundamental part of its curriculum. One of the difficulties of being able to kick like this is that it takes years with applied effort to master, even more so in an sparring/ fight context, but perseverance with aspiration to seek perfection with proper implemented training methods, will yield desired results as long as one remains consistent. Truly appreciate your channel, such an honor to be able to observe and learn from such amazing practitioners, athletes and martial artists that excel within their field at such an remarkable high level. Sincere regards. Fellow Martial Artist. Tom Framnes. Norway.

He was attacked in a Rotterdam nightclub by two guys. The scuffle ended up in the nightclub car park with Peter suffering a broken ankle. His attackers had tried to kill him attempting to run him down with their car. A cast was put on the broken ankle but Peter cut it off with a hacksaw and fought Rob Kaman neglecting the injury. The ankle injury never healed properly and unfortunately he had to end his career. With his career over he suffered depression and became addicted to cocaine. He ran into trouble with the police committing thefts to support his addiction and ended up serving a 7 month sentence in jail in 2000. He rebuilt his life when he was released from jail, drug free, however, had he difficulties training due to the ankle injury. On August 15, 2005 he was shot to death in Rotterdam, the Netherlands, after he stood up for his friend.
