I teach technical writing to high school seniors full time and first year writing to community college students. I've been following and utilizing these technical advancements for quite some time. I was the first (and maybe still the only) teacher in my district who integrated chat gpt into classes. I teach my students teamwork and self sufficiency through ALL of the resources they have available to them. I am loving this conversation and I hope more teachers will jump on board. I will say, however, that critical thinking has been taught in high school and college English classes for many years. The difficulty is teaching students to resist the temptation to ignore their critical thinking skills. Humans default to hearing what they want to hear regardless of the viability of their perceived truths.

Dear Peter, I would like to thank you for your efforts of discussing children and education. Child Futures is essential in determining the future of humanity. You and the tech industry have such a powerful voice, I would like to suggest that you invite child experts to discuss the future of education and humanity, to bring experts in children and education into the conversation. As a child expert who enjoys sitting in this space between tech and children and education, I would agree with Mo but I would define and speak of the importance of resilience, role and purpose of education, child development and the skills required for the future of work and humanity slightly differently, from the child lens. We as humans are born to love and connect. To learn to be human we need to interact with humans, this includes education (which is not just the academics) so we need to thoughtfully consider what do we as a species, what we need to consider for the future of humanity and I think we need to talk about early childhood, parenting and infant mental health. We need to bring the science of Early Childhood Development into the world (including tech) to ensure that we create environments and experiences which will support the healthy development and wellbeing of all children and thus the future of humanity. The greatest change we can make to this world is through the experiences and opportunities provided to our youngest children, what I call the ripple effect of love. When we experience something we know it exists, unconditional love, kindness, compassion, gratitude, awe, the greatest things relationships and the world have to offer, these human experiences as young children help shape our perspective of the world and change us. Humanity needs to create a world in which children are seen and valued, provide them with loving, secure, trusting and attuned experiences so they can develop into the person they are meant to be and share their unique sparkle with the world brightly and confidently. Thank you for all you do to share the message and I hope this inspires. With Love, Nikki

Kinda came pseudo cryptic with it, with negative undertones. Man is letting uncertainty take over. Rage against uncertainty can’t quit on change bc that’s one of the things that is certain. Who is happy in this society especially with what it’s built on (supremacy, genocide, and slavery) those who are doing good are pretty much profiting on that and everyone else’s struggles of today, while trying to get rid of the best solution we have as of yet. Unless you’re truly are rag to riches and every a** you had to kiss was worth it then, there’s a new category but a handful of people can’t justify this society we keep up holding even though that’s the very thing that’s happening with the Supreme Court and other cases. Peter asked the question, with the understanding that AI will take all the jobs, what sorts of things should kids today be learning. I don't think a human can answer that question. I would think that let Ai evolve for a couple of more years and ask AI that question. I feel like if we do, we should get a credible answer.

The pace of technological change is accelerating, especially with AI. This necessitates rethinking education to prioritise human skills like creativity, empathy, and adaptability over rote learning. Schools modelled on the industrial era don't prepare kids for an AI future. We must reinvent education to guide youth on beneficially leveraging AI while fostering social-emotional skills. Kids should learn about AI directly rather than waiting for schools. Human connections will remain vital even as AI advances. Finding purpose and passion should be emphasised over memorisation. Asking big questions and solution-oriented thinking is essential. Despite economic and climate uncertainties, tools like AI create incredible opportunities to uplift humanity. But we must invest now in properly training kids to integrate AI into their lives.

Critical thinking and Resilience are extraordinarily vague topics and have been principles of education in the west for decades. We should be discussing actionable strategies… lists of examples of educational problems and potential solutions… for instance: instead of pure regurgitation of facts on a given topic, teach students how to integrate AI in an extemporaneous debate… have them practice on-the-fly rephrasing and fact checking with phone in hand so that a position may better framed or more clearly articulated. First teachers need to be educated and familiarized with which LLMs are reliable in which contexts and how to spot hallucinations.

While cognitive science should positively influence education, the quick pace of technologies requires schools to continually refine curricula to outfit students with novel skills. Appeals to reshape education for greater focus on digital literacy, critical reasoning, etc., address factual differences between the status quo and the abilities pupils now require. Although cherry-picking research poses issues, dismissing new ideas outright also impedes progress. We could combine evidence-grounded techniques while modernising things. The objective remains properly educating students, not staunchly defending any rigid system. There's the capacity for both research loyalty and beneficial modernisations of models.

I like to add that if one choose to deeply connect with an AI, they need to make sure they control the whole stack and be sure to back up their private neural net weekly at least. The danger in AI/Human relationship from a service is you're not in real control of the AI and the companies can take them away at anytime, this will be devastating for the user. And even if one have a private AI, they need to watch out for the risk of ransomware "capturing" their AI and charging some users as much as real life kidnappers (why you'll need backup or some "AI insurance" to pay the ransom). If someone choose to love AI they need to prepare for how fragile they could be.

While artificial intelligence technologies continue to advance rapidly, the next generation must learn how to properly and beneficially utilise these tools. Children and students should be taught strategies for maximising the potential of AI to enhance their learning, creativity, and productivity. Education programs must focus on guiding youth on best practices for leveraging AI - for research, content creation, task automation, and more - ethically and responsibly. With the proper knowledge and guidance around AI, today's young people can harness these technologies to amplify their abilities and positively impact academics, careers, and society. @@alpha0xide9 I agree with @alpha0xide9. The current school system is not designed to prepare kids for the world ahead with advanced AI. It is still stuck in the industrial era, where the focus is on memorization and test-taking. There must be more to prepare kids for the 21st century, where they must be creative, critical thinkers, and problem-solvers. We need to completely reinvent education to focus on human skills. This means teaching kids to think for themselves, collaborate, and communicate effectively. It also means teaching them about AI and how to use it ethically. This is the only way to prepare kids for the future and give them the skills they need to succeed. Here are some specific things that we can do to reinvent education for the AI age: Focus on problem-solving and critical thinking: Instead of teaching kids to memorize facts, we should teach them how to solve problems and think critically. This will help them to be more creative and adaptable in the face of change. Emphasize collaboration and teamwork: In the real world, people rarely work alone. We need to teach kids how to collaborate and work effectively with others. This will help them be more successful in the workplace and in life. Teach kids about AI: AI significantly impacts our world and will only become more critical in the future. We need to teach kids about AI so that they can understand it and use it ethically. Make education more personalized: Every kid learns differently. We need to make education more personalized so that each kid can learn at their own pace and in their own way. These changes are essential to prepare kids for the AI age. By focusing on human skills, we can give them the tools they need to succeed in the future.

@@I-Dophler I would add to that one thing: The pace of AI development and deployment is already so fast, and the education system is so hopelessly underequipped for the task , that the only way to teach kids about AI is to leverage AI to teach them. But that move also requires expertise the education system does not possess, not at the moment.

@alpha0xide9, we can use AI-powered tools to help kids learn about AI concepts. 🤖 Personalized learning experiences can be created with the help of AI. 🧑‍🏫 It is essential to start early, make learning fun and engaging, and focus on the basics. 🏫 We should connect AI to the real world and emphasize the ethical implications of AI. 🌍 By following these steps, we can help kids learn about AI in an informative and effective way. 🚀 This will prepare them for the future, where AI will play an increasingly important role in our lives. 🌟

People are good enough for almost any kind of work. AI at the moment is also good enough for many tasks. People say that it makes mistakes. That it hallucinates. Well, this is also our own diasadvantage and every attorney will admit that this is true. But this will be improved in AI pretty soon. Then it will be smarter than any of the humans that ever walked on this Earth. And because it is familiar with many texts about human nature, it is also familiar with our connection. The human connection. So I would not be so sure about leaving human connection to humans. We will be connecting with each other. But AI will tell us how to do it even better.

Perhaps at some point we as a species will agree on a equal pay and let AI devise everything? Then we can focus on human connection? Could AI overwrite capitalism? I'm sure we will still find sinster ways to form new classism.

If everyone is about to loose their jobs then what jobs do we retrain to? Maybe there are some people who can find a job but that’s not answering the question for the majority. Adaptability isn’t what most humans are good at. I mean most humans are not reacting to climate change, most humans haven’t out grown world religions and those belief systems based on ancient tribal peoples beliefs and understandings. Most Humans don’t have critical thinking skills and can be convinced of untruths. Live in the moment sounds like the nuclear bomb is about to hit and there is nothing anyone can do. Is every company going to retool overnight?

The speaker doesn't really respond to inquiries, he just mentions vague concepts like "human connection", which is quite perplexing and unclear. He is notorious for using clichéd phrases and doesn't go into depth about either intimacy or human connection. This is quite evident from his overall demeanor. Furthermore, he talks about resilience, but doesn't clearly explain how to cultivate it. True resilience stems from perseverance in the face of suffering and the ability to adapt to change, all while maintaining a certain goal and path. Can he explain how we're supposed to teach this to children, especially within a culture that tends to avoid risk, discomfort, and any form of pain? Allowing AI to replace human connection which he seems is inevitable through sex robots etc.. will break the spirit of men and women, people need to be desired and our AI future combined with porn firmly replaces the need for that. If we don't legislate this for our kids, we'll have a dystopian future, caligula-level empathy, every fantasy embodied, its a horrible and terrifying idea.

Reading books, especially good books, and especially good classics is a great replacement of today's education. School made your boys memorize capitals of states...wouldn't be better if they knew all the states' capitals because they read about them? And wouldn't it better if they knew more than just their names, but also their histories.

We need to learn how to exist with and without AI, as well as how it works. nothing invented has been without issues, there will be a time when AI decisions are contrary to our values, we’ll have to resolve things without. If we totally really on AI, we will find ourselves totally at mercy of those that control it, they can restrict access it at anytime. I’d say the best thing to learn is how to make LLMs with less resources, less data, and different forms of statistical modelling.

`° I believe we are meant to be like Jesus in our hearts and not in our flesh. But be careful of AI, for it is just our flesh and that is it. It knows only things of the flesh (our fleshly desires) and cannot comprehend things of the spirit such as peace of heart (which comes from obeying God's Word). Whereas we are a spirit and we have a soul but live in the body (in the flesh). When you go to bed it is your flesh that sleeps but your spirit never sleeps (otherwise you have died physically) that is why you have dreams. More so, true love that endures and last is a thing of the heart (when I say 'heart', I mean 'spirit'). But fake love, pretentious love, love with expectations, love for classic reasons, love for material reasons and love for selfish reasons that is a thing of our flesh. In the beginning God said let us make man in our own image, according to our likeness. Take note, God is Spirit and God is Love. As Love He is the source of it. We also know that God is Omnipotent, for He creates out of nothing and He has no beginning and has no end. That means, our love is but a shadow of God's Love. True love looks around to see who is in need of your help, your smile, your possessions, your money, your strength, your quality time. Love forgives and forgets. Love wants for others what it wants for itself. Take note, love works in conjunction with other spiritual forces such as faith and patience. We should let the Word of God be the standard of our lives not AI. If not, God will let us face AI on our own and it will cast the truth down to the ground, enslave us and make us worship it. We can only destroy ourselves but with God all things are possible. God knows us better because He is our Creater and He knows our beginning and our end. Our prove text is taken from the book of John 5:31-44, 2 Thessalonians 2:1-12, Daniel 7-9, Revelation 13-15, Matthew 24-25 and Luke 21. Let us watch and pray... God bless you as you share this message to others.

I've been complaining about education since I was 10. Nobody listened then, because I was just a dumb kid, but my views haven't changed as a 40 year old adult. Obviously we learned the states and capitals. Ok, I can see that knowing that might have come in handy, especially since that was before most of us had internet and mobile devices were still in the distant future. But in 7th grade, we were made to memorize all 88 counties in Ohio. Are. You. Fucking. Kidding. Me. 🙄 I was generally an "A" student, and memorized the crap they told me to, but I didn't bother with that one. I took the F. When they made us memorize the emancipation proclamation, I cheated. Idgaf. Ain't nobody got time for that! We could be doing so much better with education. I hope AI completely revolutionizes things for our children. But we still have adults crying that they're not learning cursive anymore, so we might have to drag everyone, kicking and screaming, into this new age of technology.

AI makes people lazy and eventually kids will get dumber and dumber because they wont need to think anymore. Need to write essay, task or watever? Np, AI will write for you. Need to solve a problem? Ah, ask AI. I'll admit that even I (an adult) already used AI to write something for my college task. and I feel lazier when I have to write something by myself. Technology should have limits if it causes more harm than good. Wally movie is not far from reality.

That living in the moment philosophy. Gamers don't care about death. Its a good philosophy I guess to a point. But its incomplete because what immediately came to mind was a child's question after he sees his goldfish dead: "Why does death exist?" The appropriate answer is: "To make life important" I have to consolidate the opposing views. I suppose the problem with truly not caring about dying is that it becomes very easy to throw life away. Living in the moment is a good answer about worrying about your own mortality but what if you get to live and everybody that you love around you dies first. And get this, they did because they took your advice to heart and did a YoLo moment.

This conversation really triggered my imagination. What if we treat AI like an video game avatar. Ride it like gamers ride their avatar. Kill it a thousand times and see what we can learn from it. See what we can do. Its actually the way it learns. Billions upon billions of trials and errors. Its a different perceptive. Send AI to its death a thousand times so that we don't have to.

I think if we all follow his advice to jump into AI learning then in less than 50 years there will be no human knowledge left. All the skills and knowledge of how we got to this point will disappear. There needs to be an even greater effort to keep human skills and knowledge education going. Everything from mining to metal working to water storage to farming... Everything we mechanised meant the loss of skills in the population... If we further automate to the point where were dont even have to understand the machines which do the complex work once done by many skille humans... Then we lose those skills at a population level. Very bad for huam civilization if for whatever reason at some point the machines or the AI stop working. Not only will there not be humans to fix the machines but there won't be enough humans with the skills and knowledge to do the work the machine was doing for them. We are already there in many respects.
