This is a tough topic to tackle, but I applaud you, Pete. It "seems" straightforward, but clubs are so subjective in the hands of the golfer. I went from a 32 handicap in 1998, bought "game improvement" irons (Callaway X-12's), and taught myself how to play by reading everything. By 2003, I was a 6 handicap and graduated to Mizuno MP-14 irons and still play them. I'm no longer a 6-handicap anymore (11-handicap) but I rarely ever mishit my irons. I can't putt to save my life, lol. I did find my old Never Compromise VooDoo putter from the early 00s, so hopefully, it helps bring some better putting!

As a high single figure/low tens, I thought I'd be in the T200s for sure when I got fitted, but I hit the T100s so much better and preferred the feel to the T200s. Still keeps it online when I barely make contact with the grooves

It's starting to feel like there are too many tropes about "forgiveness" vs "workability". You can slice or hook the hell out of an SGI iron, and I have done that many times, so why should you pick a semi-hybrid set of irons that disguises a 6 iron loft as a 7 iron and has a bigger dispersion? Irons are meant to aim at tight spots, like greens, so what is the point of trying inflate your distances? Is it to stand on the tee and impress people by calling out a pitching wedge that might as well be a 9 or an 8?

@Pete, interested to hear your thoughts... The big pricing problem IMO is that manufacturers bring out new equipment every 12 months. After a product has been on the shelf for 12 months, it's only 1 yr old, it's still very modern and can't lose much, if any of it's release RRP. So when they bring out new equipment after just a 12 month turn around, it has to be advertised as "worth more" than the previous models which hasn't had a chance to reduce it's price. So therefore, the new equipment must have a higher price tag so it doesn't appear on the shelf as the same or inferior compared to last years models. That would push players to buying older equipment which may start getting clearance sales etc
@mjdm1925Ай бұрын
Cost is not a problem for manufacturers. What you pay $1000 actually cost them $125 so even when they clear out them they are making money. But once you as a customer buy something you won’t buy again for years so they need to keep business open convincing you a little improvement is a big one for you! Every business it’s the same
@seanhobbs8760Ай бұрын
@@mjdm1925 I'm not saying it's a problem for manufacturers. It's a problem for customers/consumers that prices just go up crazy amounts every year. The previous models don't have time to depreciate in value, so when new products are released it has to be released at a higher price than the previous model so it can be sold as a better product that's worth more

Regarding the black finishes chipping.... I wonder why they don't consider molybdenum alloys like impact sockets. Impact sockets are black and stay black after getting beat far worse than any club ever would. And they use the molybdenum because its softer and far less prone to shatter under impact forces. (I.E. nice feel) IDK...just throwing it out there.
